Trust in medical professionals and its influence on the stress experience of parents of premature infants.

AIM: To examine parents' perceptions of stress and their trust in physicians and nursing staff and to investigate whether trust influences the parental perceptions of potential stressors resulting from their infant's hospitalisation in a neonatal intensive care unit. METHODS: Parents of very and extremely low birth weight infants were surveyed in a nationwide retrospective cross-sectional study 6-18 months after their child's birth. Parental stress was measured utilising the PSS:NICU_German/2-scales, and trust was measured by the scales Trust in Physicians and Trust in Nursing Staff. In addit

Effects of Immersive Straight Catheterization Virtual Reality Simulation on Skills, Confidence, and Flow State in Nursing Students.

Core nursing procedures are essential for nursing students to master because of their high frequency in nursing practice. However, the experience of performing procedures in actual hospital settings decreased during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, necessitating the development of various contents to supplement procedural training. This study investigated the effects of a straight catheterization program utilizing an immersive virtual reality simulation on nursing students' procedural performance, self-confidence, and immersion. The study employed a nonequivalent control group pretest-po

Pregnancy after perinatal loss: parental reactions and nursing interventions.

This article summarizes the recent literature on pregnancy after perinatal loss and suggests nursing practice strategies that can be used to assist parents experiencing such a pregnancy. It discusses problems with current theories, models of grief and mourning, and some common myths and applies Peretz's model of types of loss to a pregnancy loss. It describes, too, factors that influence parental response to grief and attachment and nursing interventions that may be appropriate when providing care during a pregnancy that follows perinatal loss.

Frailty and 12-month mortality among older adults with type 2 diabetes in nursing homes: A longitudinal study.

BACKGROUND: Frailty is highly prevalent among older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and may contribute to adverse health outcomes, particularly in institutionalized settings. Despite its clinical relevance, the prognostic value of frailty among nursing home residents with T2DM remains underexplored. This study aimed to assess the association between frailty, assessed using the Frailty Index (FI), and 12-month all-cause mortality among older adults with T2DM residing in French Caribbean nursing homes. METHODS: Data were drawn from the KASEHPAD (Karukera Study on Aging in Nursing Ho

Social determinants of duration of last nursing home stay at the end of life in Switzerland: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Due to demographic ageing and increasing life expectancy, a growing demand for long-term nursing home care can be expected. Stays in nursing homes appear to be more socially determined than hospital stays. We therefore looked at the impact of socio-demographic and health care variables on the length of the last nursing home stay. METHODS: Nationwide individual data from nursing homes and hospitals in Switzerland were linked with census and mortality records. Gender-specific negative binomial regression models were used to analyze N = 35,739 individuals with an admission age of at

An epistemology of inclusion for nursing: Lessons from male infertility.

Male infertility-defined by the World Health Organization as the inability to achieve pregnancy after 12 months of unprotected intercourse due to male-factor reproductive impairment-contributes to nearly half of infertility cases worldwide. Yet within nursing scholarship, men's reproductive experiences remain only partially visible, reflecting longstanding gendered assumptions that equate reproduction with femininity. This epistemic underdevelopment has ethical consequences: it sustains stigma, delays help-seeking, and limits nursing's capacity to provide equitable, relationally attuned care.

Constructing maternal-child learning experiences using clinical simulations.

Clinical simulations are gaining more attention in the field of maternal-child health and allow nursing programs and service organizations to assess competency of students and staff in key patient safety situations. Nursing and midwifery programs, orientations, and yearly reaccreditation modules commonly include simulation on postpartum hemorrhage, placenta abruption, shoulder distocia, and other high-risk, low-incidence emergency events. This article describes the use of simulations by educators and managers as teaching or professional development strategies.

Precision Nursing Device Management and Artificial Intelligence-Integrated Early Warning Systems for Central Nervous System Infections in the Neurocritical Care Unit: A Scoping Review.

Central nervous system (CNS) infections and clinically overlapping neuroinflammatory conditions in the neurocritical care unit (neuro-ICU) are associated with profound mortality and prolonged clinical burdens. Invasive neuromonitoring devices, particularly external ventricular drains (EVDs), significantly increase the risk of infection, while delayed clinical manifestations often hinder early recognition and intervention. This scoping review aimed to systematically map the current landscape of precision nursing device management and artificial intelligence (AI)-integrated early warning systems

What is the nursing team involvement in maintaining and promoting the mobility of older adults in hospital? A grounded theory study.

AIMS OF THE PAPER: To present a grounded theory of the nursing team involvement in the process of maintaining and promoting the mobility of hospitalised older adults. BACKGROUND: Being able to mobilise is an important determinant of quality of life in late adulthood. However, advancing age is often accompanied by worsening mobility, which may deteriorate further as a result of illness and particularly hospitalisation. Targeted in-patient rehabilitation interventions may have the capacity to maintain and promote older adults' mobility. Some authors suggest that the nursing team may have a cent
