Genetic Changes in Mastocytes and Their Significance in Mast Cell Tumor Prognosis and Treatment.

Mast cell tumors are a large group of diseases occurring in dogs, cats, mice, as well as in humans. Systemic mastocytosis (SM) is a disease involving the accumulation of mast cells in organs. KIT gene mutations are very often seen in abnormal mast cells. In SM, high KIT/CD117 expression is observed; however, there are usually no KIT gene mutations present. Mastocytoma (MCT)-a form of cutaneous neoplasm-is common in animals but quite rare in humans. KIT/CD117 receptor mutations were studied as the typical changes for human mastocytosis. In 80% of human cases, the KIT gene substitution p.D816H w

[Gallbladder metastasis of clear cell renal carcinoma].

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is an uncommon malignant neoplasm that accounts for 3% of all malignant tumors in adults. This tumor exhibits a high tendency to develop synchronous or metachronous metastases in different anatomical sites. Although gallbladder metastasis from ccRCC is extremely rare, sporadic cases have been reported in the medical literature. We present the case of a 78-year-old woman with a history of undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and ccRCC in the right kidney. She underwent radical nephrectomy. Histopathological analysis confirmed t

A case of recurrence of a solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas effectively treated with proton beam radiotherapy.

We report a case of a male in his 50 s who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy for solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN) of the pancreas at 30 years. He developed a liver abscess 15 years after the surgery, and CT scan revealed a swollen retroperitoneum lymph node and a tumor in the liver. Symptoms, including abdominal distension, appetite loss, and epigastric pain, appeared due to lymph node metastasis. Endoscopic ultrasonography-guided fine-needle aspiration against the lymph node revealed SPN recurrence. The tumor had invaded the common hepatic artery, and surgery was not indicated. Chemothera

Left colonic metastasis from primary hepatocellular carcinoma: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) accounts for 5-6% of all human cancers. Considering the extrahepatic metastasis, the main organs involved are lymphnodes, lung, bone and adrenal gland. Usually colon metastasis is very rare, especially on the left sided colon. CASE SUMMARY: We report a case of a 70 years-old man hepatitis B carrier with HCC treated four times with trans-arterial chemoembolization, presented to our surgical department complaining of gastrointestinal bleeding. A colonoscopy revealed a mass of 4 cm of the sigmoid colon with signs of bleeding. The computed tomography sho

Distant Metastatic Microcystic Adnexal Carcinoma.

Microcystic adnexal carcinoma (MAC) is a rare malignant neoplasm of ductal origin. MAC is a clinically aggressive, locally destructive tumor with a high rate of recurrence, but distant metastasis is rare. A 55-year-old male who had been taking immunosuppressants for 2 years after a liver transplantation due to hepatocellular carcinoma presented with a dermal nodule on the sole. He visited the clinic because the nodule, discovered 3 months ago, continued to increase in size. The histopathologic findings from the lesion were consistent with MAC. The patient underwent wide local excision and conf

Isolated metastatic melanoma to the pancreas in the context of myeloproliferative neoplasm: a rare occurrence.

Isolated metastatic melanoma to the pancreas is a rare occurrence, representing less than 1 per cent of metastatic melanoma. This case describes the clinical presentation and course of illness of a patient who was diagnosed with a solitary metastasis to the pancreas 11 months after a clear margin resection of a pT1b, stage IB melanoma. Her melanoma metastasis was diagnosed on Endoscopic Ultrasound-Fine Needle Biopsy (EUS-FNB). This patient was found to have a concurrent myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) at the time of diagnosis. This case importantly highlights the course of a rare finding in

Renal cell carcinoma with gallbladder metastasis: a case report.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most frequent renal neoplasm, with a high rate of metastasis, especially in the lungs and bones. The gallbladder is one of the rare metastatic sites. We report an 80-year-old woman who presented with chronic right flank pain for the last six months. A computer tomography scan revealed a heterogeneous right renal mass measuring 86 ×76× 68 mm and multi lithiasis in the gallbladder. A right radical nephrectomy, lymphadenectomy, and cholecystectomy were performed. The postoperative clinical course was uneventful, without any complications. The histological results

Metastasis to the breast from colonic adenocarcinoma.

A 63-year-old woman was referred to a breast surgeon with a breast mass discovered incidentally during follow-up study after colon cancer surgery. Invasive adenocarcinoma was revealed on core needle biopsy. Wide excision of the breast including the tumor was performed. On standard histological examination the tumor showed features of moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma. The immunohistochemistry study revealed positive results for cytokeratin (CK)20 and CDX2, but negative for CK7. These are typical characteristics for colon cancer. Considering her history of subtotal colectomy for sigmoid

Neoplastic Etiology and Natural Course of Pituitary Stalk Thickening.

CONTEXT: Pituitary stalk thickening (PST) is often identified on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), either incidentally or during diagnostic workup of hypopituitarism. However, the neoplastic etiology and natural course of PST are not fully understood, although this knowledge is required to establish diagnostic and surveillance strategies. OBJECTIVE: This work aimed to investigate the neoplastic etiology and natural course of PST. METHODS: MEDLINE/PubMed and EMBASE databases were searched up to February 2021 to identify original research investigating the etiologies of PST. The proportion of

Pituitary Metastasis of Lung Neuroendocrine Carcinoma Mimicking Pituitary Adenoma:Case Report and Literature Review.

Pituitary metastasis is an unusual situation in clinical practice, while the incidence is increasing with age. Breast cancer for women and lung cancer for men were the most frequent primary origins of pituitary metastasis. Diagnosing asymptomatic patients with unknown primary malignant origin is difficult, thus pituitary metastasis may be diagnosed as primary pituitary adenoma. Here, we report a case of a 65-year-old patient with visual changes and diabetes insipidus, showing an extensive mass in the sellar region which was initially thought to be a primary pituitary adenoma. Patient corticotr

Multiple sites of soft-tissue metastases secondary to lung cancer: A case report.

RATIONALE: The prognosis of lung cancer is dismal, which has resulted in lung carcinoma being one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Non-small cell lung cancer accounts for approximately 80% of all types of lung carcinoma. The skeletal system and central nervous system are the most common distal metastatic sites in patients with lung cancer, while cutaneous and soft tissues metastasis is rare. PATIENT CONCERNS: We report a case of concomitant metastasis in the nasal tip and suspected buttocks metastasis secondary to lung cancer, who complained of repeated cough and whit

Spontaneous regression of colorectal liver metastasis.

A 72-year-old woman with advanced ascending colon cancer and an intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) of the pancreatic head was treated by right hemicolectomy (RHC) and pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (PpPD). Adjuvant chemotherapy was not administered. Multimodal examinations at 5 months after surgery detected a solitary metastatic liver tumor derived from cancer of the ascending colon. Liver resection proceeded at 7 months after the first surgery. A pathological study of a surgical specimen of the liver identified a necrotic nodule that did not contain viable tumor cells.

KIFC1 regulated by miR-532-3p promotes epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma via gankyrin/AKT signaling.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most lethal cancers worldwide. The poor survival may be due to a high proportions of tumor recurrence and metastasis. Kinesin family member C1 (KIFC1) is highly expressed in a variety of neoplasms and is a potential marker for non-small cell lung cancer or ovarian adenocarcinoma metastasis. Nevertheless, the role of KIFC1 in HCC metastasis remains obscure. We investigated this in the present study using HCC cell lines and clinical specimens. Our results indicated that increased levels of KIFC1 were associated with poor prognosis and metastasis in HC

Malignant extra-gastrointestinal stromal tumor of the pancreas. A case report and review of literature.

CONTEXT: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are CD117 (C-Kit) positive mesenchymal neoplasms considered to originate from the interstitial cells of Cajal. Gastrointestinal stromal tumors have been described outside the gastrointestinal tract in sites, such as the mesentery, omentum and retroperitoneum; however, pancreatic extra-gastrointestinal stromal tumors are extremely rare and there have only been seven previous reports in the literature. CASE REPORT: We describe a 38-year-old man with a malignant pancreatic gastrointestinal stromal tumor. The tumor was located in the head of pancreas, meas

A case of midgut carcinoid with breast metastasis and cellular localization of serotonin and substance P.

A case of midgut carcinoid with breast metastasis is reported. Hepatic metastases stored large amounts of serotonin as demonstrated by the Falck-Hillarp technique. Immunocytochemically serotonin and substance P, which may co-exist in gut enterochromaffin cells, were demonstrated in separate populations of tumor cells both in the hepatic and mammary neoplasms.

Tumor-to-Tumor Metastasis of Renal Cell Carcinoma to a Follicular Variant of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common renal malignancy. It has a variable clinical course with metastasis to unusual sites occurring months to years after the initial diagnosis. However, metastasis can also be the first presentation of RCC. Although relatively uncommon, the thyroid gland is the most common location for RCC metastasis in the head and neck region. Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is an exceedingly rare occurrence. Only 10 cases were reported of RCC metastasis to primary thyroid neoplasms. We present a case of clear cell RCC metastasizing to a follicular of variant papillary thy

Ureteral neoplasms.

The authors review primary and secondary neoplastic lesions of the ureter. Primary ureteral tumors are rare, although when they occur, they usually consist of transitional cell carcinoma. The most frequent symptoms are hematuria, frequency, dysuria, and pain. Secondary ureteral neoplasms are caused by direct extension from an adjacent extraureteral primary tumor or from a site of bulky metastasis and, rarely, by metastasis from a distant primary tumor. The most useful diagnostic modalities are retrograde pyelography for direct visualization of ureteral involvement--particularly in the presence
