Hemangioma is one of the most frequently encountered benign hepatic neoplasm which can develop secondary degeneration. Sclerosed hemangioma is a rare disease histologically characterized by large amount of collagen and elastic fibril between sclerosed small vessels. Its differential diagnosis is very difficult. It should be included in the differential diagnosis of other hepatic lesions such as hepatocellular carcinoma, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, and metastatic hepatic tumor. A 77-year old male was admitted with upper abdominal discomfort. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed GB stone, dil

Paraneoplastic syndromes related to soft tissue tumors are very uncommon and an association of paraneoplastic diseases with a malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) has not been reported so far. Opsoclonus-myoclonus is a rare paraneoplastic nervous system syndrome, that was well documented in adult patients with neoplasms particularly of the lung and breast. A 77-year-old woman developed typical opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome and rapidly progressed to coma. The opsoclonus and generalized myoclonus continued until the patient's death seven months later. An autopsy examination identified a pleomorp

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The fasciitis-panniculitis syndromes include several disorders characterized by skin induration due to fibrotic thickening of the septa of the subcutis and muscular fascia associated with chronic inflammation. Representative of the idiopathic form, eosinophilic fasciitis, is the prototype of the fasciitis-panniculitis syndromes. Secondary forms of the syndromes are causally related to a variety of diseases, such as infections, circulatory disorders, physical injuries and neoplasms.
METHODS: Histological sections of 10 idiopathic and 20 secondary cases of the fasciitis-pannicu

The clinicopathologic findings in 200 cases of malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) with follow-up information are presented. This tumor occurred principally as a mass on an extremity (lower extremity 49%, upper extremity 19%) or in the abdominal cavity or retroperitoneum (16%) of adults (peak incidence 61-70 years of age). It typically involved deep fascia (19%) or skeletal muscle (59%) and only rarely was confined to the subcutis without fascial involvement (7%). The MFH had variable morphologic features and frequently showed transitions from areas having a highly ordered storiform pattern t

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare fibroblastic mesenchymal neoplasm. The current classification has merged SFT and hemangiopericytoma (HPC) into the same tumor entity, while the risk stratification models have been developed to compensate for clinical prediction. Typically, slow-growing and asymptomatic, SFT can occur in various anatomical sites, most commonly in the pleura. Histologically, SFT consists of spindle to oval cells with minimal patterned growth, surrounded by stromal collagen and unique vascular patterns. Molecularly, SFT is defined by the fusion of NGFI-A-binding protein 2 (

RATIONALE: Osteosarcoma is a rare neoplasm in the lumbar spine. Although osteosarcoma can arise in any portion of the skeleton, it very rarely arises in the spinal canal, which accounts for <0.1% of all cases of adult sarcomas. Here, we describe a case of osteosarcoma arising in the L4-5 spinal canal.
PATIENT CONCERNS: The present report describes the case of a 55-year-old female patient with osteosarcoma of the L4-5 spinal canal.
DIAGNOSES: The patient was initially diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis and underwent lumbar fusion at a local hospital. At the 4-month follow-up, the patient r

INTRODUCTION: Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are uncommon mesenchymal neoplasms and are particularly rare in the female genital tract. Doege-Potter syndrome is a paraneoplastic syndrome involving SFT-associated hypoglycemia. We report, for the first time, on a broad ligament SFT with Doege-Potter syndrome; additionally, we review 30 cases of women with SFTs reported in the literature.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 37-year-old woman who presented with life-threatening hypoglycemia and a pelvic mass (16 × 15 × 15 cm).
DIAGNOSES: The patient was diagnosed with broad ligament SFT with Doege-Potter syndrom

BACKGROUND: Pseudomyxoma peritonei is a disease that results from a perforated mucinous neoplasm of the appendix so that mucinous ascites and mucin-producing tumor cells are widely disseminated in a characteristic pattern throughout the abdomen and pelvis. The intraabdominal mucus can accumulate in the inguinal canal and by physical examination be indistinguishable from the usual inguinal hernia.
METHODS: A database of patients with pseudomyxoma peritonei was used to identify patients who had an inguinal hernia prior to or at the time of cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and perioperative hyperther

Although the vast majority of gastrointestinal (GI) masses are epithelial neoplasms, a variety of subepithelial masses are infrequently encountered during endoscopic or radiologic examination. A subepithelial mass, which was previously called a submucosal mass, is defined as a mass covered with normal-appearing mucosa, whether the underlying process is intramural or extramural in origin. At contrast material-enhanced computed tomography (CT), hypervascular subepithelial masses are usually detected more easily than isoattenuating or hypovascular masses. Entities that appear as intramural hyperv

AIMS: To report on the clinico-pathological features of a series of 14 intra-oral mucoepidermoid carcinomas showing exclusive intra-cystic growth.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: All mucoepidermoid carcinomas diagnosed in the period 1990–2012 were retrieved; the original histological preparations were reviewed to confirm the diagnosis and from selected cases, showing exclusive intra-cystic neoplastic components, additional sections were cut at three subsequent 200 m intervals and stained with Hematoxylin–Eosin, PAS, Mucicarmine and Alcian Blue, to possibly identify tumor invasion of the adjacent tissu

Benign fibrous histiocytoma (FH) is one of the most common mesenchymal neoplasms of the skin. Several histologic variants of cutaneous FH have been described, some of which also have distinct clinical features including a propensity for local recurrence. Deep benign FH is an uncommon and poorly recognized clinical subtype that arises in subcutaneous or deep soft tissue. Only a single small series of these neoplasms has been published, and their clinical behavior is not well characterized. In this study, we report the clinicopathologic features of 69 deep FH retrieved from our consultation file

BACKGROUND: Angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma (AFH) is a rare low-grade neoplasm, typically arising in pediatric/adolescent extremity subcutaneous tissues. Adrenal AFH is extremely uncommon, with limited reported cases. Investigating the correlation between clinicopathological features (such as histomorphology and immunophenotype) and molecular findings (including genetic alterations like EWSR1 rearrangements) in adrenal AFH is essential for refining diagnostic accuracy and guiding targeted management strategies.
CASE PRESENTATION: Two adrenal AFH cases (18-year-old male, 50-year-old female) f

BACKGROUND: Myoepithelial carcinoma (MECA) represents a rare malignant neoplasm accounting for less than 2% of all salivary tumors, with recurrent PLAG1 rearrangements comprising its predominant underlying molecular aberration.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 48-year-old man presented with a 6-month history of a slow-growing, asymptomatic, pink-yellowish, submucosal nodule of the left upper lip measuring approximately 1.2 cm. An excisional biopsy was performed. Histologic examination revealed an infiltrative salivary neoplasm exhibiting a multilobulated growth pattern comprising numerous solid islands,

RATIONALE: Solitary fibrous tumors (SFT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor originating from a CD34-positive dendritic mesenchymal cell, most of which is benign, the most common sites is pleura and mediastinum, and rarely in the bladder. The clinical manifestations are mainly related to the tumor volume. When the tumor volume is large, it will compress the surrounding tissues or organs and cause corresponding symptoms. Laparoscopic Incision biopsy is effective means for diagnosing SFT.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 70-year-old female patient was admitted to the hospital with a bladder neoplasm detected by com

BACKGROUND: Massive localised lymphoedema (MLL) is a rare, relatively recently described pseudosarcoma most often occurring in morbidly obese patients.
AIM: To perform a retrospective review of all cases diagnosed as MLL.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Clinical information was obtained. 22 morbidly obese adults (mean patient weight 186 kg) presented with unilateral, large soft tissue lesions of longstanding duration. Most lesions involved the thigh, but also occurred in the posterior calf and lower leg. Clinically, most lesions were regarded as representing benign processes, including pedunculated lip

Angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma (AFH) is a rare, low-grade malignant soft-tissue tumor most commonly occurring in the extremities of children and young adults and has a low potential of local recurrence and metastasis. Here, we present a case of recurrent subcutaneous perianal AFH. After an initial diagnosis as a sebaceous cyst, we were able to use immunohistochemical findings to correctly identify the mass as an AFH. The patient was effectively treated after 3 surgical resections. This case emphasizes the need to correctly diagnose soft-tissue tumors using a variety of diagnostic modalities

We report a case of solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) in the cerebral convexity, and present characteristic radiological and surgical findings to determine its origin. The patient was a 59-year-old man with mental dullness and mild gait disturbance. CT scan and MR images showed a highly enhanced large mass lesion mimicking a meningioma in the left parietal convexity. However, neither dural enhancement nor tail sign indicative of meningioma was observed. Angiography showed prominent feedings from branches of the internal carotid and basilar arteries rather than the external carotid artery. For this

We report four new cases of meningeal Solitary Fibrous Tumour (SFT). Two patients presented with raised intracranial pressure from posterior fossa SFT, and the third developed hemiparesis and dysphasia due to a large lesion that originated in the left middle cranial fossa. These were successfully excised and the patients remain well at follow-up of between 1 and 3 years. The fourth patient, a 71-year-old man, suffered an intracerebral haemorrhage and later died from a malignant SFT that had invaded the falx cerebri, superior sagittal sinus, and brain. This is the first description of a locally
