Owing to the local characteristics of stable nitrogen isotopes in nitrogen oxides (δ15N-NOx) emitted from biomass burning, the lack of data on δ15N-NOx values associated with biomass burning in China limits the use of this parameter in identifying and quantifying the sources of atmospheric nitrate (NO3-) and NOx. This paper reports a novel method for the rapid determination of ammonia nitrogen in sewage by headspace gas chromatography (HS-GC) through a chemical reaction. During the experiment, formaldehyde, initially in excess, was reacted with NH4+ in a headspace bottle to produce a strong acid with equal molarity. In this study, surfactant modified zeolite-clinoptilolite (SMZ) by CPB (cetylpyridinium bromide) was used for simultaneous removal of ammonium, nitrate and phosphate in synthetic wastewater, and the sorption properties of SMZ were determined and compared with natural zeolite. Results showed that natural clinoptilolite had good affinity for ammonium (8.940 mg/g), but not for nitrate (0.427 mg/g) and phosphate (0.801 mg/g). A novel electrolysis-integrated biofilter system was developed in this study to evaluate the intensified removal of nitrogen and phosphorus from contaminated water. Two laboratory-scale biofilter systems were established, one with electrolysis (E-BF) and one without electrolysis (BF) as control. Very few land use regression (LUR) models have been developed for megacities in low- and middle-income countries, but such models are needed to facilitate epidemiologic research on air pollution.
