Simulation-based learning is widely used to prepare nursing students for therapeutic communication, but transfer is often treated as if students acquire decontextualized skills in the laboratory and then apply them in clinical practice. This qualitative descriptive study explored how undergraduate nursing students experienced the transition from communicating with simulated patients to communicating with real patients during early clinical practice. Fifteen third-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing students in the United Arab Emirates who had completed the required Adult Health Nursing I simul

How do we screen all families in a population at a single time point, identify family-specific risks, and connect each family with evidence-based community resources that can help them overcome those risks-an approach known as targeted universalism? In this article, Kenneth A. Dodge and W. Benjamin Goodman describe Family Connects, a program designed to do exactly that. Developed and tested in Durham, NC, Family Connects-now in place at 16 sites in the United States-aims to reach every family giving birth in a given community. The program rests on three pillars. The first is home visiting: tra

Public health nurses (PHNs) may be well positioned to address planetary health challenges through their clinical, population health, and community-based roles, yet their contributions to planetary health practice remain understudied. This qualitative study used reflexive thematic analysis to examine PHNs' roles, contributions, and capacities related to planetary health practice in public health departments. Semi-structured interviews were conducted from October 2024 to February 2025 with 30 participants, including 13 PHNs, 11 public health leaders, and 6 community-based organization representa

OBJECTIVE: Ingrowing toenails are often treated surgically by nail avulsion, with paraffin tulle gauze applied to the toenail bed afterwards. In one large city's primary care trusts, community nurses reported that patients felt pain when the gauze was removed postoperatively. This study looked at patients' general pain experience, and their pain during the first dressing change after toenail avulsion. Patients' perceptions of their pain were investigated, along with nurses' experience of redressing toenail beds, their technique and their interaction with patients, especially in relation to pai

Rural communities experience health care workforce shortages, poorer health outcomes, and significant barriers related to health care access, transportation, behavioral health services, and other social drivers of health. Nurse practitioners (NPs) are well positioned to address these disparities; however, traditional NP education often emphasizes urban and suburban practice environments, leaving graduates underprepared for the realities of rural practice. Preparing NPs to serve rural populations requires competencies that extend beyond clinical care, including cultural humility, community enga

BACKGROUND: The global public health crisis caused by COVID-19 in late 2019 was unprecedented. Due to their vulnerable population, nursing homes are a key epidemic response area. This study described the challenges and coping strategies of nursing home staff during COVID-19 and proposed recommendations for future public health crises in nursing homes.
METHOD: A meta-synthesis was performed to address the research question: What are the experiences of nursing home staff from the perspectives of COVID-19? From the beginning until August 31, 2024, searches were conducted in five international da

Background/Objectives: Health systems across Europe are increasingly challenged by population ageing, multimorbidity, and persistent inequities in access to care. Community Nursing has emerged as a promising approach to strengthening preventive, community-based services, yet evidence on stakeholder-perceived needs during early implementation remains limited. This study aimed to explore how different types of needs are perceived and articulated during the early implementation of Community Nursing in Austria. Methods: An interpretive descriptive qualitative study was conducted as part of an Aust

Globally, healthcare systems have been pushed to the breaking point. The demands for public health and community-based care - traditionally underfunded - have escalated. Necessity expedited the use of technology for virtual care delivery within the Canadian healthcare system and in post-secondary education, overcoming years of resistance. Now, more than ever, transformation of nursing curricula is critical to the socialization of our professional identity, what nursing values and what it means to be a nurse who can demonstrate capabilities that go far beyond the image of the pandemic proclamat

INTRODUCTION: Opioid addiction disease has become a global health and social problem complicated by drug misuse and abuse (Pearlman, 2016; Rettig & Yarmolinsky, 1995; Watkins, 2016). Buprenorphine, a partial opioid agonist, is an effective treatment for opioid addiction disease (Loreck et al., 2016). Its induction can trigger severe precipitated withdrawal in opioid-dependent patients whose mu receptors are occupied opioids (American Society of Addiction Medicine, 2015). Knowledge of assessing a patient's level of withdrawal using a validated tool is key to successful transition from other opi

Burn injuries are an endemic health concern in developing countries. Globally, Africa has the highest incidence of burn injuries per capita. A total of 2.3% of the South African population suffer burn injuries annually and may present at community pharmacies and primary healthcare (PHC) facilities. Pharmacists and PHC nurses must, therefore, remain abreast with the latest treatments for burn care. This commentary presents the most recent information for assessing burn wounds, first aid, referral guidelines, and identifying toxic shock syndrome in more severe burns cases. The successful managem
