BACKGROUND: Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) plays a crucial role in the management of malignant ovarian germ cell tumors (MOGCTs) and is an important reference index for chemotherapy termination. COACH syndrome is a disorder characterized by hypoplasia of cerebellar vermis, oligophrenia, congenital ataxia, coloboma and hepatic fibrosis, and 21 cases have been reported to date. CONTEXT: Abnormalities in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis are frequent accompaniments of depression, and studies have documented the role of stress and stressful life events in the ontogeny of perimenopausal depressions (PMD). Because HPA axis function in women is further modulated both by aging and ovarian steroids, it is possible that a dysregulated HPA axis contributes to the increased risk of PMD.

INTRODUCTION: NR5A1 encodes steroidogenic factor 1 (SF-1), a key regulator of adrenal and gonadal development, steroidogenesis, AMH transcription, and the balance between pro-testicular and pro-ovarian pathways. The recurrent NR5A1 c.274C>T (p.Arg92Trp) variant is associated with SRY-negative 46,XX testicular and ovotesticular differences in sex development (DSD), but intrafamilial expression remains difficult to predict.
