Pelvic floor dysfunction in gynecologic cancer survivors.

Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) is a common complication in gynecologic cancer survivors (GCS) and is now a worldwide medical and public health problem because of its great impact on the quality of life of GCS. PFD after comprehensive gynecologic cancer treatment is mainly reflected in bladder function, rectal function, sexual dysfunction and pelvic organ prolapse (POP), of which different types of gynecologic cancer correspond to different disease incidence. The prevention strategies of PFD after comprehensive gynecologic cancer treatment mainly included surgical treatment, physical therapy an

Primary Ovarian Perivascular Epithelioid Cell Tumor Diagnosed During Pregnancy: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms with dual melanocytic and smooth muscle differentiation. Ovarian PEComas are extremely rare, and to our knowledge, this is the first reported case diagnosed during pregnancy. A 31-year-old pregnant woman underwent resection of a left adnexal mass at an external facility. Histopathology assessed at the pathology department of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) revealed a PEComa. Follow-up imaging at our center showed a residual complex solid-cystic mass in the left adnexa. Multidiscip

A Case of Postmenopausal Uterine Adenosarcoma With Concomitant Diabetes Mellitus.

Uterine adenosarcoma is a rare, low-grade malignant tumor that usually arises from the endometrium and presents as a large polypoid mass occupying the endometrial cavity. A correct histopathological diagnosis of adenosarcoma from a small specimen is often difficult, and pre-operative MR imaging findings are generally not specific enough to establish an adenosarcoma diagnosis. A 60-year-old nulliparous woman was referred to our hospital who presented with vaginal bleeding. Her medical history was notable for type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Upon pelvic examination, a large endometrial

Massive ovarian edema: a case of over 30 cm ovarian mass in young woman.

Massive ovarian edema is a rare entity that can be confused with ovarian neoplasm. A 20-year-old nulligravid woman presented with a large solid pelvic mass and abdominal mass. On examination a solid mass was found which extended from the pelvis until over the umbilical transversal line. Abdominal ultrasound revealed a solid non-homogenous mass originating from the right ovary with largest diameter of over 30 cm, fine internal echoes, regular margins, and poor vascularization. The abdominal computed tomography (CT) image was non-contributory. Blood work including hematology and biochemistry was

A case of adult granulosa cell tumor presenting as thoracic lesions.

BACKGROUND: Granulosa cell tumors (GCTs) are uncommon sex cord-stromal ovarian neoplasms. We report a case of GCT presenting in the chest, 18 years after oophorectomy for ovarian cystadenocarcinoma. CASE PRESENTATION: A 63-year-old female was admitted to our hospital for evaluation of a right hilar lesion. Subsequent abdominal and pelvic computed tomography and brain magnetic resonance imaging were unremarkable. Eighteen years earlier, the patient had undergone total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy at another institution for a uterine myoma, with the pathological f

Coexisting intraepithelial serous carcinomas of the endometrium and fallopian tube: frequency and potential significance.

Most serous adenocarcinomas involving both the endometrium and ovary are presumed to arise in the endometrium. Recently, serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma (STIC) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of pelvic serous carcinoma. This study explored the potential relationship between STIC and uterine serous carcinoma. Twenty-two consecutive cases of serous carcinoma involving the endometrium were studied. In each case, fallopian tubes were submitted in toto according to the protocol for sectioning and extensive examination of the fimbriated end. Extent of the endometrial tumor and presenc

Tumours of the ureter and renal pelvis treated with resection and renal autotransplantation: a study with up to 20 years of follow-up.

OBJECTIVE: To report long-term follow-up data from patients treated with resection of urothelial neoplasms of the upper urinary tract combined with autotransplantation of the kidney. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In a clinical and histopathological review of 23 patients who had 25 autotransplantations, they were followed for 7-20 years or until death. Nine patients had either a solitary kidney or bilateral renal pelvic tumours (group A) and 14 had a normal contralateral kidney (group B). RESULTS: Seven operations were unsuccessful, ending in nephrectomy. Of the nine patients in group A two with high

[The role of embolization treatment of acute hemorrhage].

137 arteries of 95 patients were treated by transcatheter embolization for massive haemorrhage using Ethibloc, Gelfoam, wire coils and Tissucol (Fibrinogen + Thrombin). The bleeding was secondary to trauma in 23 patients, to neoplasms in 16 patients and to vascular malformations or chronic inflammatory processes in 41 cases. 15 patients were treated for iatrogenic bleeding following surgery. Bleeding was referred to haemoptysis (n = 27), pelvic (n = 24), renal (n = 16) or gastrointestinal haemorrhage (n = 13) as well as several other diseases (n = 15). Most patients were poor surgical candidat

Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy followed by surgery in locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva.

Alternative therapies have been sought to alleviate mutilation and morbidity associated with surgery for vulvar neoplasms. Our prime objective was to assess tumor absence in pathological vulvar and nodal specimens following neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced vulvar neoplasms. Data were retrospectively collected from January 2001 to May 2009 from 22 patients treated with neoadjuvant therapy for locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva. Neoadjuvant treatment consisted of inguino-pelvic radiotherapy (50 Gy) in association with chemotherapy when possible. Surgery occurr

Recent developments on the significance and pathogenesis of lymph node involvement in ovarian serous tumors of low malignant potential (borderline tumors).

In approximately 27% of patients that were surgically staged for ovarian serous borderline tumors (ovarian serous tumors of low malignant potential), regional lymph nodes, most commonly the pelvic and paraaortic groups, display morphologically similar epithelial clusters. Lymph nodes above the diaphragm may also be involved. Lymph node involvement does not adversely impact the overall survival of patients with ovarian serous borderline tumors, but there is controversy as to whether this finding is associated with a decrease in recurrence-free survival. Nodular aggregates of epithelium greater

Endoscopic management of upper tract urothelial tumors.

We evaluated renal-preserving endourology in the diagnosis and management of upper tract urothelial tumors. Referral patients were identified for the endourologic management of upper urinary tract tumors between January 1990 and May 1996 at two tertiary care referral centers. Chart reviews, indications for intervention, and treatment outcomes were assessed. Twenty patients (mean age 66 years; range 32-89; males 14; females 6) underwent endourologic diagnosis and/or management of upper tract urothelial neoplasms. Mean follow-up was 25 months. The diagnosis of transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) w

Pelvic actinomycosis: a malignant appearing mass. A case report.

Pelvic actinomycosis is a rare complication of a long-term intrauterine contraceptive device. Early diagnosis is important, as clinical and radiological imaging may mimic a malignant pathology and lead to radical and unnecessary surgery. We report a case of pelvic actinomycosis in a woman who had used an intrauterine contraceptive device for the last 13 years. The actinomycosis appeared as a malignant pelvic mass with invasion into the sigmoid and left ureter, with high-grade stenosis of these structures. Because of its rapidly developing obstructive character, an urgent Hartmann procedure wit

[Wolffian adnexal tumors (FATWO)].

Tumors originating from the remnants of the mesonephral (Wolf's) duct, known as FATWO (Female Adnexal Tumor of Probable Wolffian Origin), belong to the category of rare neoplasms of the female reproductive system. The tumor was first described in 1973 by doctors Kariminijad and Scully from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Since then, about 100 cases of FATWO have been recorded worldwide. The localization of the tumor is associated with the threefold laying of the Wolf duct in embryogenesis: from the ovarian gate, along the mesosalpinx, in the wide ligament of the uterus alo

Presumptive primary mammary gland squamous cell carcinoma with widespread metastases in a young ewe.

Mammary tumors in sheep are exceedingly rare, with all reported cases being benign to noninvasive and slow growing. Here, we describe a squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) with widespread metastases presumptively arising from the mammary parenchyma in a 3.5-y-old ewe. Following a history of chronic mastitis and severe swelling of the udder, the udder was removed surgically and submitted for examination. Three weeks after surgery, because of poor prognosis, the animal was euthanized and autopsied. The udder had no cutaneous lesions but had parenchymal disorganization and extensive areas of necrosis d

Mesonephric-Like Adenocarcinomas a Rare Tumor: The Importance of Diagnosis.

Mesonephric-like adenocarcinomas (MLA) are rare neoplasms that arise in the uterine body and ovary and have been added to the World Health Organisation's recent 2020 classification of female genital cancers. The pathogenesis of MLA is unknown and it remains debated whether they represent mesonephric carcinomas (Wolffian) arising in the endometrium/ovary or endometrioid carcinomas (Müllerian) closely mimicking mesonephric carcinomas. Here we report the case of a 57-year-old woman with an initial misdiagnosis of endometrioid adenocarcinoma on diagnostic biopsy. The patient came to our clinical e

Rapid testicular metastasis from bladder transitional urothelial carcinoma after radical cystoprostatectomy: A case report.

RATIONALE: Bladder cancer (BC) is commonly diagnosed in the urinary system and the most common subtype is transitional urothelial carcinoma (TCC). Even with the best treatment, tumor recurrence and metastases always occur. While clinicians commonly observe the metastases to pelvic lymph nodes, liver, lung, and bone, it may infrequently spread to some uncommon locations. PATIENT CONCERNS: The patient was a 67-year-old man with a diagnosis of high-grade TCC with squamous differentiation in the bladder and prostate. Subsequently, radical cystoprostatectomy, adjuvant radiotherapy, and chemotherap
