Ulcerative lichen planus of the sole is a rare variant of lichen planus, characterized by chronic painful disabling ulceration of the soles. Despite many treatment modalities used to treat ulcerative lichen planus, it is still considered a resistant disease. We report a Saudi female patient with ulcerative lichen planus of the soles resistant to many systemic and topical agents. We used topical tacrolimus 0.1% ointment with excellent response and complete healing in a few weeks as well as good maintenance during a follow-up period of more than 2 years.

The effect of a topically administered alpha-adrenoceptor agonist (phenylpropanolamine) after allergen challenge was evaluated in a placebo-controlled double-blind crossover study in 10 subjects with allergic rhinitis in an asymptomatic period. The nasal airway resistance was objectively measured by anterior rhinomanometry after nasal allergen challenge. Pain is the main cause of morbidity in the postoperative period, where it is serious in some cases, leading to odynophagia and resultant complications such as dehydration. PURPOSE/METHOD: To report a clinical case of a 21-year old male with a severe corneal abscess due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa refractory to intensive treatment with topical Ciprofloxacin.
RESULTS/CONCLUSIONS: A corneal scrapping performed after a wash-out period showed Pseudomonas aeruginosa specimens, which were not sensitive to any of the fluoroquinolones tested. A fortified topical treatment with Ceftazidime healed the corneal abscess.
