Comparing physical activity, motivation, and need satisfaction in cancer survivors exercising with the general public versus with other survivors.

Self-determination theory asserts that psychological need satisfaction in exercise and autonomous motivation are valuable in initiating exercise and supporting adherence long-term. Given the benefits of exercise in reducing cancer survivors' treatment side effects and risk of relapse, this study compared motives and psychological need satisfaction when exercising in survivor-specific groups versus general public groups. Participants (n = 72) were 42 cancer survivors who exercised in survivor-specific groups (Group 1; Mage = 57.02, SD = 10.95) and 30 survivors who exercised in general public gr

Mapping Life Satisfaction Over the First Years of Cohabitation Among Former Singles Living Alone in UK and Germany.

OBJECTIVE: As social norms and relationship dynamics evolve, it is important to examine how transitions from singlehood to partnership, cohabitation, and marriage relate to well-being. METHOD: Using data from two large panel studies in the UK and Germany (1984-2019), we identified N = 27,459 individuals who reported being single and living alone at least once. Analyses focused on a subset (N = 1103; Mage = 38.35, SDage = 13.87; 43.8% women) who later entered a relationship and moved in with a partner. RESULTS: Life satisfaction increased over the short to medium term after cohabitation acros

The role of grit in thinking styles and academic major satisfaction.

Satisfaction with one's academic major is critical to a university student's development. This study explores the interrelationships among thinking styles, grit, and academic major satisfaction in both deaf or hard-of-hearing (DHH) and hearing students, employing independent samples t-tests to compare the two groups, Pearson's correlation analysis to explore relationships among the variables, and mediation analysis to understand the mediating effect of grit on the relationship between thinking styles and academic major satisfaction. The results indicated significantly higher levels of grit and

Satisfaction or frustration with psychological needs is a crucial factor in the motivation and management of health-related behaviors. This study aimed to examine the differences in good health practices and psychological and physical well-being among adolescents with and without T1D and the mediating role of satisfaction and frustration of psychological needs on the association between good health practices and well-being in this population. A total of 9

How gender determines the causes of smoking: a preliminary report.

Analyses of a national sample of 849 adults indicated that gender conditioned the effects of several variables on tobacco smoking. Interaction tests indicated that religiosity deterred only women's smoking, while satisfaction with financial status inhibited only men's smoking. The experience of physical violence during childhood promoted smoking only among men.

Depressive symptomatology and role function in a general population.

Depressive symptomatology, marital satisfaction and functioning, job satisfaction, and social relationships were investigated in 320 respondents comprising 160 married couples. Responses to a variety of questions about the respondents' social life, job satisfaction, and marital function indicate that increased depressive symptomatology

The psychological architecture of employee disengagement: a structural model of the antecedents and behavioral outcomes of quiet quitting.

BACKGROUND: Quiet quitting, defined as disengagement through the restriction of effort to formal job requirements, is a growing organizational concern. Patient satisfaction with two different management modalities for erratic bleeding during continuous hormone therapy for endometriosis-associated symptoms: A before-after study.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate patient satisfaction with the management of erratic bleeding during continuous hormone therapy for endometriosis using two different strategies: an active approach (tailored cycling), which involved discontinuation of the therapy; and a passive approach, which involved waiting for spontaneous resolution of the bleeding. METHODS: This was an observational before-after study. All patients enrolled within a previously defined time limit were instructed to adopt a passive strategy to manage erratic bleeding, while all patients enrolled after that defined time were instructe

Positive and Negative Correlates of Psychological Well-Being and Distress in College Students' Mental Health: A Correlational Study.

BACKGROUND: Recognizing the positive or negative effects of students' mental health promotes personal development, well-being, and academic success. Impact of vaginoplasty on sexual health and satisfaction in transgender women.

BACKGROUND: Demand for gender-affirming surgery (GAS) is rising. The main objective of this surgery is the creation of a perineo-genital complex that appears and functions as femininely as possible, with a sensitive clitoris and a vagina capable of receptive intercourse. Penile skin inversion is currently regarded as the gold standard technique. Although previous research indicates positive subjective outcomes following GAS procedures in transgender women, comprehensive data concerning their sexual satisfaction and health remains limited. AIMS: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact

Scratching beneath the surface: influencing factors on nurses' attitudes toward the use of seclusion.

Reducing the use of seclusion is now widely identified as a quality issue for mental health services and reflects recognition of the detrimental impact of seclusion on consumers of services. Despite this, the research evidence suggests that nurses continue to support the use of seclusion in order to maintain a safe environment. The aim of this study was to consider how factors such as Therapeutic Optimism, Job Satisfaction, and Burnout might relate to nurses' attitudes toward seclusion. The Heyman Attitudes to Seclusion Survey, Elsom Therapeutic Optimism Scale, Maslach's Burnout Inventory, and

Living status and psychological well-being: social comparison as a moderator in later life.

OBJECTIVES: Older adults who live alone have been found to have lower psychological well-being than their age peers who live with someone. This study examined whether downward social comparison, i.e. perceiving oneself as better than others, would moderate this relationship. METHOD: A total of 205 Chinese aged 60 years or over were recruited. They rated themselves and 'someone their age' on a list of personal descriptions. Downward social comparison was defined as the extent to which their ratings of self were better than ratings of age peers. Life satisfaction and depression were measured by

The paradoxical role of professional satisfaction in the bidirectional relationship between psychological vulnerability and learning burnout among nursing students: A three-wave longitudinal study.

BACKGROUND: Learning burnout among nursing students is a concern for nursing education, particularly during the transition from foundational studies to specialization. Although psychological vulnerability is recognized as a risk factor, the bidirectional longitudinal relationship between psychological vulnerability and learning burnout remains inadequately understood. Furthermore, it remains unclear whether professional satisfaction buffers or strengthens this association. AIM: To examine the bidirectional, longitudinal relationship between psychological vulnerability and learning burnout, wh
