Pityriasis rosea (PR), PR-like eruptions (PR-LE), and herpes zoster have been frequently reported during the COVID-19 pandemic and following COVID-19 vaccination. PR is a self-limiting exanthematous disease and herpes zoster is a treatable condition; therefore, their occurrence does not require discontinuation of the vaccination schedule. PR-LE is a hypersensitivity reaction and is, therefore, less predictable in its course. In the case of a booster dose, the clinical manifestation may not recur, may be different from PR-LE, or may present with systemic symptoms; however, in the case of PR-LE,…

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to evaluate the characteristics and treatment response of patients with pityriasis lichenoides seen in the last 43 years in a pediatric dermatology service.
METHODS: This was a retrospective, analytical, longitudinal study of patients under 15 years of age. The medical records were reviewed and data were presented as frequencies, means and variances. Student's t-test, Mann-Whitney test, Fisher's exact test, Pearson/Yates chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression model were used, with p < 0.05 considered.
RESULTS: 41 patients were included, 32 (78.0%) wi…

Pityriasis rubra pilaris represents a group of familial and acquired disorders of cornification that affect both adult and pediatric patients. Treatment options are difficult to assess through clinical trials, given the rarity of the disorder and its tendency for spontaneous remission. Case reports and case series are therefore the primary means of assessment. Because of the heterogeneity of the disease, there is no universal approach to treatment, and multiple agents may need to be trialed to achieve disease control. At present, topicals are used for most pediatric patients, though monotherap…

Pityriasis rubra pilaris is a rare papulosquamous chronic skin disease. The disease often exists for years and is difficult to treat. Not only is it clinically similar to psoriasis vulgaris, but both diseases also have a similar cytokine profile. The successful use of biologicals is frequently reported in case reports. Studies with large numbers of cases are lacking.

Pityriasis versicolor is a common infection of the epidermis in adults, but only a few cases of this infection (especially the hypopigmented type) have been reported in infants aged under one year. Herein, we document a report of these cases and a review of the literature. Two patients with infantile pityriasis versicolor, who presented with hypopigmented macules on the neck, upper back, and chest are reported. A KOH examination was suggestive of pityriasis versicolor and our patients responded well to 1% clotrimazole lotion (twice a day) for four weeks. Pityriasis versicolor should be conside…

Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) is an uncommon papulosquamous dermatosis characterized by follicular, erythematous, hyperkeratotic papules coalescing to salmon-coloured plaques with islands of sparing. The disease tends to be self-limited and resolves spontaneously after a few years. In some cases, the disease is persistent. However, recurrence of this disease has rarely been described. An 8-year-old male was diagnosed with type III (classic juvenile) PRP. He was treated with acitretin, and his skin was clear after 6 months. He remained disease free for 6 years. At 14 years old, he was diagnose…

Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) is a papulosquamous disorder comprising 6 clinical types. Some factors - including abnormal vitamin A metabolism, internal malignancies, autoimmune diseases, infection and trauma - are thought to be involved in the etiology. Recently, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated PRP has been reported to have distinct clinical features, such as nodulocystic acne and lichen spinulosus alongside PRP. We report here the case of a 38-year-old female with onset of classical PRP after a high fever. Virological studies indicated that the patient had primary systemic cyt…

INTRODUCTION: Pityriasis lichenoides (PL) exhibits a protean clinical presentation, particularly in its overlapping form (OPL) combining aspects of the acute and chronic types. Some patients are drug multiresistant and pose a therapeutic dilemma. The anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha agent etanercept, was recently introduced as an alternative treatment for psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriatic arthritis.
CASE REPORT: A 65-year-old woman suffered from an overlapping form of pityriasis lichenoides (OPL) for 5 years. Several initial acute episodes were controlled by successive cour…

Pityriasis rosea (PR) is a relatively common disease although its aetiology has not yet been identified. It occurs worldwide and there is no racial susceptibility factor. It usually affects teenagers and young adults between 10 and 35 years of age. Typical PR is much easier to diagnose than the rare atypical forms. We report a rare case of vesicular PR in a black woman who had vesicular lesions limited to her palms and soles in addition to regular typical lesions. We devised an efficient oral erythromycin treatment for this patient.
