Effect of menstrual phase on the surgical treatment of ovarian cysts.

This study aimed to determine whether the menstrual cycle affects operative bleeding and postoperative ovarian reserve in patients undergoing laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy. A total of 155 patients who had undergone laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy were classified into the follicular phase (n = 84) and luteal phase (n = 71) of the menstrual cycle. The primary outcome measures were operative blood loss and the rate of decline in ovarian reserve, as calculated by measuring serial serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels preoperatively and 3 months postoperatively. No significant difference in t

Surgical Closure of Atrial Septal Defect with High Pulmonary Vascular Resistance--A Case Report.

We have reported a case of successful pericardial patch closure of atrial septal defect with high pulmonary vascular resistance in a 32 years aged male. Diagnosis was confirmed by Doppler Echocardiography, Cardiac catheterization and lung biopsy. Before starting (orally) bosentan pulmonary arterial pressure was 105 mm Hg and pulmonary vascular resistance was 8 wood's unit. Bosentan was started at a dosage of 125 mg per day (62.5 mg twice a day) for 4 months before operation in this case. Just day before operation pulmonary arterial pressure was 87 mm Hg. Bosentan lowered pulmonary arterial pre

Patient Reported Outcomes in Preoperative and Postoperative Patients with Hypospadias.

PURPOSE: Current outcome tools for hypospadias have limited focus on the caregiver or patient perspective of important patient centered outcomes. In this study we collaborated with patients, caregivers, and lay and medical experts to develop and pilot a patient reported outcome measure for hypospadias. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We developed a patient reported outcome measure based on systematic review of the literature and focus group input. The patient reported outcome measure was piloted in caregivers for boys younger than 8 years and in patients older than 8 years who presented for urology co

Objectively quantifying walking ability in degenerative spinal disorder patients using sensor equipped smart shoes.

Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is a condition associated with the degeneration of spinal disks in the lower back. A significant majority of the elderly population experiences LSS, and the number is expected to grow. The primary objective of medical treatment for LSS patients has focused on improving functional outcomes (e.g., walking ability) and thus, an accurate, objective, and inexpensive method to evaluate patients' functional levels is in great need. This paper aims to quantify the functional level of LSS patients by analyzing their clinical information and their walking ability from a 10 m

Preoperative and postoperative predictors of long-term outcome after endovascular treatment of poor-grade aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.

OBJECTIVE An increasing number of patients with poor-grade aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) have received endovascular treatment. Endovascular treatment of poor-grade aSAH, however, is based on single-center retrospective studies, and predictors of long-term outcome have not been well defined. Using results from a multicenter prospective registry, the authors aimed to develop preoperative and postoperative prognostic models to predict poor outcome after endovascular treatment of poor-grade aSAH. METHODS A Multicenter Poor-grade Aneurysm Study (AMPAS) was a prospective and observationa

Preoperative Psychological Factors and Early Postoperative Pain After Posterior Spinal Fusion for Scoliosis: A Retrospective Preliminary Study.

Background and Objectives: Postoperative pain after posterior spinal fusion (PSF) for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) shows substantial interindividual variability, particularly during early mobilization. Although preoperative psychological vulnerability has been associated with less favorable pain trajectories in prior AIS research, evidence focused on the acute postoperative phase remains limited. This preliminary study evaluated whether preoperative psychological factors are associated with acute postoperative pain intensity, with separate assessment of resting and standing pain. Mate

Achieving the Needed Correction in Vertebral Body Tethering: The Relationship Between Preoperative Flexibility, Intraoperative Correction, and First Erect Imaging.

BACKGROUND: Vertebral body tethering (VBT) is a nonfusion surgical treatment for scoliosis. Recent data have shown that intraoperative correction is critical for successful curve correction over time. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative correction. We hypothesize that preoperative flexibility will match first erect imaging, intraoperative correction will overestimate postoperative correction, and correction has improved over time with increased surgeon experience. METHODS: This study is a retrospective review of patients who und
