African-American clergy's perceptions of the leading health problems in their communities and their role in supporting parishioners' health.

This article is a report on a survey of Southern California pastors to learn of their perceptions of the leading health problems in their congregations. Participants (N=41) identified stress, overweight, and obesity as the top three health indicators that effect the health of their congregations. Tobacco use and substance abuse were listed among the top five. From a list of health problems, pastors felt that from the pulpit they could impact parishioners responsible sexual behavior most. Pastors expressed their opinions about the reasons for certain maladies and addictions. The findings indica

Who is doing informatics work in US governmental public health agencies?

OBJECTIVES: Data modernization (DM) seeks to transform data and information systems in public health (PH) to support core activities. This study characterizes incumbent PH workers who perform informatics and data-centric roles that are critical to DM activities. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Responses from the 2024 Public Health Workforce Interests and Needs Survey (PH WINS) on the US governmental PH workforce were analyzed. Out of 77 PH job classifications, 9 were mapped to informatics/data-centric roles. Demographics, work characteristics, and contribution to informatics and other PH program areas

The personal and the public in residents' burnout: a cross-sectional investigation.

BACKGROUND: Medical residents are especially prone to burnout. Burnout has historically been viewed as a work-related condition. Burnout also occurs in life domains other than work, such as relationships and parenthood. The present investigation takes a holistic view of resident burnout, considering both public (i.e., work-related) and personal (i.e., couple, parental) burnout. The present investigation examines the interplay between resident burnout in different life domains, their antecedent (i.e., work-family conflict), and outcomes (i.e., job, couple, and parental satisfaction; turnover an

Veterinary service provision in Bangladesh's poultry industry: A qualitative study on the roles of field veterinarians.

Poultry health management plays a significant role in ensuring food safety and economic stability in Bangladesh. Field veterinarians are key contributors to poultry healthcare, yet their activities, challenges and impact remain underexplored. This study examined the roles and responsibilities of both government and private field veterinarians from across the national poultry industry, focusing on veterinary care, disease prevention, and biosecurity implementation within the broader context of One Health. We examined recruitment processes, facilities and challenges encountered by these veterina

Guidelines, practices, and interprofessional roles in oral health promotion in custodial settings: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: People in custodial settings are disproportionately affected by, often preventable, oral diseases. Addressing oral health inequities is vital to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Universal Health Coverage by 2030. Obstacles to achieving Universal Health Coverage for oral health in the custodial context include the deficit of oral health professionals in such settings. Innovative workforce models of non-dental professionals are recommended to integrate oral health into routine custodial care. Despite this, no comprehensive review has been undertaken to s

Anticoagulant stewardship: an opportunity for community pharmacy.

OBJECTIVES: This study explored how community pharmacies in the English National Health Service responded to a referral from one hospital in the south west of England for a discharge medicines service for patients on oral anticoagulants. METHODS: Analysis of PharmOutcomes™ for a 12-month period commencing 1 April 2023. The download was interrogated for relevant entries for patients discharged on apixaban, dabigatran, edoxaban, rivaroxaban, or warfarin. KEY FINDINGS: Approximately one-third of community pharmacies recorded entries on PharmOutcomes™ that point to their involvement in monitorin

Budget impact analysis of medication reviews by junior pharmacists in polypharmacy patients: a hospital perspective.

INTRODUCTION: Pharmacist-led medication reviews are increasingly recognised for generating cost savings within the hospital. However, no cost-analysis has investigated the budget impact of junior pharmacists conducting medication reviews under supervision of clinical pharmacists, nor included recommendations to start-, increase-, or monitor medications. AIM: To assess the budget impact of medication reviews by supervised junior pharmacists across hospital wards, explore budget impact differences between drug classes, and identify patient predictors that potentially influence the budget impact

Roles of diagnostic radiographers in child protection from physical abuse: A narrative review of non-policies, policies and legislation in Zambia.

INTRODUCTION: Recognition and diagnosis of child physical abuse (CPA) have become an essential foundation for child protection globally. Failure to recognise, diagnose and intervene in CPA cases may lead to significant physical, psychological, and economic consequences. In Zambia, despite the enactment of child protection legislation, the specific roles of diagnostic radiographers in the child protection pathway remain inadequately defined. Therefore, this review aimed to examine the roles of diagnostic radiographers in child protection related to physical abuse in Zambia and to identify exist

Developing a core outcome set for pharmacist interventions in chronic kidney disease: a Delphi study.

BACKGROUND: Significant heterogeneity exists for the outcomes reported in research for pharmacist interventions in chronic kidney disease (CKD), limiting interpretation and increasing research waste. Currently, no intervention-specific core outcome set in nephrology exists. This study aimed to develop a core outcome set for pharmacist intervention research in CKD. METHODS: This study consisted of three phases: Phase 1) an international online survey and systematic review to long-list outcomes; Phase 2) an e-Delphi survey; and Phase 3) an online consensus workshop. In Phase 2, participants ran

Increasing the use of long-acting injectable behavioral health medications in the community - A pharmacist-psychiatrist collaborative model.

BACKGROUND: Persons with severe mental illness or substance use disorder (SUD) benefit from long-acting injectable behavioral health medications (LAMs), which improve treatment adherence, reduce hospitalizations and emergency visits, and mitigate long-term biopsychosocial decline. LAMs remain underutilized due to multiple barriers across patients, pharmacies, providers, and payors. OBJECTIVE: The primary objective of this study was to conduct a time study and workflow analysis to inform a scalable and equitable payment model for community pharmacy-based administration of LAMs. METHODS: Six c

Integrating community pharmacists in tuberculosis infection care: challenges and strategic approaches in Indonesia.

BACKGROUND: Community pharmacists (CPs) are accessible healthcare providers with the potential to support care for tuberculosis infection (TBI). However, their role remains limited and poorly integrated into national TB programs. Despite global recognition, no study in Indonesia has explored how CPs can be engaged as direct service providers. This study aims to identify the challenges and develop strategies for involving CPs as direct providers of TB services to improve TB preventive treatment outcomes. METHODS: A qualitative case study was conducted in West Java, Indonesia. Data collection i

Pharmacist roles enhancing substance use disorder treatment access, continuation, and education in a problem-solving court.

Problem-solving courts (PSCs) are major diversionary programs in the United States criminal legal system, mandating substance use and mental health treatment as an alternative to incarceration. While they reduce recidivism, their impact on clinical outcomes remains uncertain. A significant challenge is ensuring participants have access to and remain in evidence-based medication treatments. Notable barriers to treatment engagement and retention include a lack of relationships between PSCs and community treatment providers, as well as pharmacotherapy expertise. A case study highlights the role o

Management of Chronic Atrophic Candidiasis (Denture Stomatitis)-A Narrative Review.

One of the most common oral diseases affecting people wearing dentures is chronic atrophic candidiasis or denture stomatitis (DS). The aim of the paper is to provide an update on the pathogenesis, presentation, and management of DS in general dental practice settings. A comprehensive review of the literature published in the last ten years was undertaken using multiple databases, including PubMed via MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Scopus. The eligible articles were analyzed to identify evidence-based strategies for the management of DS. Despite its multifactorial nature, the leading cause of DS is the d
