Psychological Aspects of Students With Learning Disabilities in E-Environments: A Mini Review and Future Research Directions.

What are the main learning difficulties or advantages encountered by students with learning disabilities (LDs) within e-environments? As a result of the Covid-19 emergency, e-learning is being increasingly used to support students' learning processes. A number of countries closed their schools altogether, so face-to-face lessons were and have been replaced by distance lessons. A search of current literature via Scopus, Eric and Google Scholar electronic databases was conducted according to Prisma Guidelines. Other sources of literature were also considered, starting from the references in the

Adaptation, Resilience, and Secure Attachment States of Mind in Young South African Female Students Exposed to Intimate Partner Violence in Childhood.

Much research details the psychological risks to individuals exposed as children to intimate partner violence (IPV). However, resilience has been a neglected area of study within this population. This article details adaptive responses in six participants exposed to IPV in childhood. Adult attachment interviews (AAI) and follow-up semi-structured interviews analyzed using an interpretive thematic analysis revealed common themes relating to psychological defenses and adaptive strategies. Despite exposure to IPV in childhood, these six women were found to have secure attachment states of mind. R

Treatment for central polydactyly of the foot with nine toes: a rare case report.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric polydactyly is a common congenital disorder of the hand and foot that affects the development and psychology of children. It can be classified into postaxial polydactyly, preaxial polydactyly and central polydactyly. Among the three types, central polydactyly is the rarest, resulting in limited literature pertaining to the management of this condition. We present a rare case of central polydactyly of the left foot with nine toes. CASE PRESENTATION: A 10-month-old female child was brought to us with left congenital central mirror foot and ill-fitting shoe concerns. The fo

Hospital trainees' worries, perceived sufficiency of information and reported psychological health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic has been unsurpassed in clinical severity or infectivity since the 1918 Spanish influenza pandemic and continues to impact the world. During the A/H1N1 pandemic, healthcare workers presented concerns regarding their own and their families' health, as well as high levels of psychological distress. We aim to assess hospital trainees' concerns, perceived sufficiency of information, behaviour and reported psychological health during the COVID-19 pandemic. DESIGN: Single 39-point questionnaire. SETTING: A large NHS foundation trust in London. PARTICIPANTS: 204

Psychological Outcomes in Family Members of Patients With Acute Respiratory Failure: Does Inter-ICU Transfer Play a Role?

BACKGROUND: Family members of patients admitted to the ICU experience a constellation of sequelae described as postintensive care syndrome-family. The influence that an inter-ICU transfer has on psychological outcomes is unknown. RESEARCH QUESTION: Is inter-ICU transfer associated with poor psychological outcomes in families of patients with acute respiratory failure? STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Cross-sectional observational study of 82 families of patients admitted to adult ICUs (tertiary hospital). Data included demographics, admission source, and outcomes. Admission source was classified as

Altered social-emotional processing and decision-making in Central Diabetes Insipidus: The role of vasopressin deficiency.

BACKGROUND: Arginine vasopressin (AVP) regulates homeostasis and social behavior. Damage to AVP neurons causes central diabetes insipidus (CDI), now termed arginine vasopressin deficiency (AVP-D), a rare disorder potentially linked to social deficits. This study examined how AVP deficiency affects social, emotional, and psychological functioning in AVP-D patients. METHODS: Twelve AVP-D patients and twelve matched controls participated. Blood samples measured copeptin and other hormones. Participants completed behavioral tasks assessing social exclusion (Cyberball paradigm), emotion recognitio

Health and Art (HEART): Integrating Science and Art to Fight COVID-19.

Netting individuals separated from each other by vast distances; the present condition of COVID-19 needs art and its extraordinary capacity to connect human beings and integrate scientific disciplines. We can predict that the COVID-19 pandemic would leave the mind lonely and vulnerable to diseases, for, on the one hand, the COVID-19 pandemic and related problems, in particular social isolation, are itself stressor. On the other hand, studies confirm the potential of COVID-19 to involve the central nervous system by affecting the immune system, either directly or indirectly. The COVID-19 condit

Pre- and post-operative evaluation of psychological well-being and vision-specific quality of life in cataract patients.

BACKGROUND: Cataract is a leading cause of reversible visual impairment in older adults and is strongly associated with reduced quality of life and increased depressive symptoms. Although cataract surgery restores visual function, its psychological impact- particularly on depression and hopelessness-remains insufficiently explored. METHODS: This prospective observational study included 71 patients undergoing standard phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation. Visual function, depression, and hopelessness were assessed preoperatively and at 4 and 12 weeks postoperatively using the

Does Authentic Leadership Foster Work Engagement? A Post-Pandemic Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Work engagement has emerged as a critical psychological resource for organizational resilience in the post-pandemic era. Authentic leadership is theoretically positioned as a key antecedent of engagement, yet empirical findings regarding the strength and consistency of this relationship remain fragmented, particularly across emerging economies. This study synthesizes post-pandemic evidence on the authentic leadership and work engagement relationship, integrating Social Exchange Theory and the Job Demands-Resources model as complementary interpretive frameworks. METHODS: Following

Psychological Stress as a Mediator in the Relationships Between Personality Characteristics and Eye-Blinking Behavior.

This study explores the relationship between personality traits, perceived psychological stress, and blinking behavior. The research is grounded in the Big-Five personality model, particularly focusing on neuroticism, extraversion, and conscientiousness, and their associations with stress responses, and physiological markers such as spontaneous blink rate (SBR). Previous studies suggest that personality influences stress and physiological responses; however, the link to blinking behavior remains underexplored. The study hypothesized that neuroticism is positively associated with blinking varia
