Eleven boys aged 1-10 years with central precocious puberty were studied. According to the pubertal development six were classified as P2, one as P3 and four as P5. In all cases plasma testosterone levels were definitely elevated (1.7-5.8 ng/ml) when compared with pre-pubertal controls. Peak values after HCG (3 X 1500 units) in four of the boys were in the high adult range. The binding capacity of serum testosterone oestradiol binding globuline (TeBG) ranged between 0.5 and 7.30 microgram/dl. Basal plasma levels of LH and FSH were respectively 2.06 +/- 0.64 and 1.2 +/- 0.25 miu/ml, and peak le

CONTEXT: Central precocious puberty (CPP) has strong genetic and epigenetic influences. MECP2, an X-linked gene, encodes a DNA methylation reader with a role in gene transcription regulation. MECP2 loss-of-function mutations are linked to neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly with Rett syndrome, a severe disorder that may be associated with early puberty. MECP2 variants were identified in girls with CPP with or without neurodevelopmental disorders.
OBJECTIVE: This work aimed to investigate potential MECP2 variants in boys with idiopathic CPP at 3 academic hospitals.
METHODS: MECP2 DNA s

BACKGROUND: Central precocious puberty (CPP), which is traditionally defined as the development of secondary sexual characteristics before age 8 years in girls and age 9 years in boys, results from the premature activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. CPP can be associated with short adult stature, adverse psychosocial outcomes, and increased cardiometabolic and cancer risks in adulthood. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists can effectively suppress premature activation of the HPG axis and have the potential to increase adult height as well as improve psychosocia

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to evaluate the relationship between anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels in cases of central precocious puberty (CPP), premature adrenarche (PA), and isolated premature thelarche (IPT) and those of healthy controls (HC).
METHODS: A total of 153 girls (40 PA, 39 CPP, 39 IPT, and 35 HC) were included in the study. AMH levels were assessed using the ELISA method.
RESULTS: The mean age of all participants was 7.19 ± 0.63 (5.0-8.0) years. Height SDS was higher in the puberty and puberty variant groups compared with the healthy group. This difference was found to be statistica

This study explores the clinical characteristics and risk factors of female precocious puberty. This retrospective study was conducted on 119 girls with precocious puberty admitted to Pu'er People's Hospital from January 2022 to November 2023 (PP group) and 119 girls with normal sexual maturity during the same period (normal group). Clinical characteristics (including laboratory indicators) and general conditions of participants in both groups were collected and compared. The risk factors of female precocious puberty were analyzed using logistic analysis. There were statistically significant d

Supporting healthy growth in children is a core objective of health care systems. However, numerous factors in modern society can expose children to risks such as precocious puberty, which may further lead to harm to their physical and mental health. In this article, we summarize the state-of-the-art of knowledge on precocious puberty, including its definition, stages, comprehensive influencing factors, natural environmental hormones, and environmental endocrine disruptors (e.g., plasticizers and plastic products). Additionally, we introduce the treatment and strategies for preventing this con

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the role of basal and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)-stimulated inhibin B in differentiating premature thelarche from gonadotropin-dependent precocious puberty (GDPP).
METHODS: This was a prospective interventional study. Basal and FSH-stimulated inhibin B levels were estimated in girls presenting with thelarche < 8 years age (n = 10), healthy girls with normal pubertal development (pubertal control) (n = 8) and healthy prepubertal girls (prepubertal control) (n = 7). Girls with early puberty were classified as premature thelarche or GDPP based on GnRH agonist stimu

Precocious puberty, characterised by the early appearance of secondary sexual characteristics, poses challenges in diagnosis and management. Here, we describe a case of precocious puberty diagnosed in a boy in middle childhood, who presented with progressive phallus enlargement, pubic hair development and increased aggressive behaviour. Hormonal evaluation confirmed the diagnosis of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), complicated by gonadotropin-dependent precocious puberty. The case highlights the importance of assessment of testicular volume in a patient presenting with precocious puberty.

Introduction. During the COVID-19 pandemic, an increase in consultations for precocious puberty (PP) was observed. Our objective was to determine the frequency of PP and its progression before and during the pandemic. Methods. Retrospective, observational, analytical study. The medical records of patients who consulted with the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology between April 2018 and March 2021 were assessed. Consultations for suspected PP during the pandemic (period 3) were analyzed and compared to the 2 previous years (periods 1 and 2). Clinical data and ancillary tests done in the initi

OBJECTIVE: Although there is a relationship between earlier onset of puberty and increased adiposity tissue. Publications in the literature on adiposis in patients with central precocious puberty (CPP) and visceral fat thickness (VFT) have conflicting results. So, in this study, we aimed to evaluate the relationship between sexual maturation and obesity in the development of early puberty and to examine their relationship with pelvic sonographic parameters.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 126 girls [patients - premature thelarche (PT) and CPP - and controls] were included in this study. Anth

Precocious puberty is defined as the onset of puberty before the age of eight years in girls and before the age of nine years in boys. It is associated with negative physical health consequences in the long term and can also have negative psychosocial effects, particularly in adolescence. Central precocious puberty (CPP), which is caused by the early activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, is the more prevalent form of precocious puberty. This article explains CPP and its signs, assessment, diagnosis and treatment. It also discusses the factors to consider when deciding whether

The survival of the species depends on two closely interlinked processes: the correct functioning of the reproductive system, and the balance between the energy needs of an individual and the supply of energy sources through feeding. These two processes are regulated in the hypothalamus, which produces neurohormones that control various physiological functions. Among these neurohormones, GnRH controls not only the maturation and function of the reproductive organs, including the ovaries and the testes, during puberty and in adulthood, but also sexual attraction. Recent evidence suggest that ne

We retrospectively analyzed clinic records of 55 children (36 girls) with precocious puberty. Majority (34, 62%) had central precocious puberty, out of which 19 were idiopathic. Peripheral precocious puberty was seen in 14 children. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia was the commonest cause of peripheral precocious puberty (6, 42.8%).

INTRODUCTION: Precocious puberty (PP) is one of the most common reasons for referral to pediatric endocrinologists. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogs (GnRHas) are the gold standard for the treatment of central precocious puberty (CPP) and have an impressive record of safety and efficacy. However, ongoing refinements in diagnosis and management continue to lead to important advancements in clinical care.
AREAS COVERED: The aim of this review is to cover current considerations and controversies regarding the diagnosis of CPP, as well as new findings in regards to etiology and treatment mod

BACKGROUND: Recent studies demonstrated that changes in DNA methylation (DNAm) and inactivation of two imprinted genes (MKRN3 and DLK1) alter the onset of female puberty. We aimed to investigate the association of DNAm profiling with the timing of human puberty analyzing the genome-wide DNAm patterns of peripheral blood leukocytes from ten female patients with central precocious puberty (CPP) and 33 healthy girls (15 pre- and 18 post-pubertal). For this purpose, we performed comparisons between the groups: pre- versus post-pubertal, CPP versus pre-pubertal, and CPP versus post-pubertal.
