Ranitidine and oxmetidine are newly developed histamine H2-receptor antagonists without any antiandrogenic activity and probably without drug interactions. In numerous clinical trials ranitidine has been proven to be at least as effective as cimetidine in the short- and long-term treatment of peptic ulcer disease. Ranitidine was found to be remarkably safe. Its therapeutic use in man should not be associated with significant adverse reactions.

Roxatidine acetate is a new H2-receptor antagonist. A randomized double-blind clinical trial in fifty-three patients with endoscopically proven duodenal ulcers > 5 mm in diameter was undertaken to compare safety and efficacy of roxatidine with that of ranitidine. Possums are a wildlife vector of bovine tuberculosis in New Zealand. Vaccination of possums with BCG is being considered as a measure to control the spread of bovine tuberculosis to cattle and deer.
