Use of mineral trioxide aggregate in the treatement of traumatized teeth in children--two case reports.

INTRODUCTION: Dental injuries in immature permanent teeth often result in endodontic complications. Apexification technique using calcium hydroxide is associated with certain flaws, such as long treatment time, the possibility of tooth fracture and incomplete calcification. The use of an apical plug employing mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is an alternative treatment option. CASE REPORT: We reported the successful treatment of 4 maxillary incisors (in a 7-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl) with open apices and periapical lesions. Apical portions of the canals were filled with MTA plugs in

Impact of Austere Hot and Humid Conditions on the Physical and Biological Properties of Endodontic Sealers in Military Use.

INTRODUCTION: Nearly 15 million root canals are performed annually for the treatment of diseased and infected tooth pulp, allowing teeth to be functionally and esthetically maintained. Non-surgical root canal therapy ties directly into dental readiness and the maintenance of US posture by preventing and successfully treating endodontic disease. However, this therapy has a 5-20% failure rate with approximately 60% of these failures attributed to incomplete obturation of the root canal. The composition and performance of endodontic sealers are vital for successful root canal treatments and may b

Use of the cold test as a measure of pulpal anesthesia during endodontic therapy: a randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial.

Soft tissue signs are inadequate to assess pulpal anesthesia during root canal therapy (RCT). The intention of this study was to determine if a negative response to cold testing is a more effective measure to assess pulpal anesthesia compared to soft tissues signs. Using a randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled design, subjects with baseline responsiveness to cold testing were enrolled. Test subjects achieved a negative response to cold testing prior to RCT. Control subjects were given a sham cold test after demonstrating soft tissue signs. Visual analog scale determined pain level. Unadjuste

The evaluation of the accuracy of a wireless electronic apex locator in primary molar teeth.

BACKGROUND: The working length determination is necessary before root canal shaping, chemical cleaning, disinfection, and obturation in pulpectomy of primary dentition. This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of Wirele-X and compare it with DentaPort ZX and Woodpex III in primary molar teeth. METHODS: The in vitro study was performed by using 30 extracted primary mandibular molar teeth. In distal roots, the actual working length was determined by taking forward a #10 K-type canal file under a dental operating microscope with 10x magnification. Each tooth and lip clip were embedded in algina

Inflammatory and replacement resorption in reimplanted permanent incisor teeth: a study of the characteristics of 84 teeth.

Avulsion is a serious injury which can cause damage to some or all of the dental and surrounding tissues. This study examined the profiles of teeth showing inflammatory resorption, in terms of time prior to reimplantation, contamination, pulp extirpation time and period of splinting and compared them to teeth without resorption. There were a total of 71 children in the present study (mean age 9.8 years, range 6-16 years) with a total of 84 reimplanted teeth. Inflammatory resorption was present in 22 teeth. There was a significant relationship between the presence of inflammatory resorption and

Leakage of 4 resin-based root-canal sealers used with a single-cone technique.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to measure leakage of 4 resin-based sealers. STUDY DESIGN: Four groups of premolars (n = 60) were prepared using GT Rotary files and the crown-down technique and filled by the single-cone technique with AH26, AHPlus, EndoREZ, and an experimental MBP as sealer. Leakage was measured using the fluid filtration method after 15, 30, and 60 days and determined as microL/min(-1) x 10 psi. RESULTS: Statistical analysis by ANOVA and Tukey HSD test indicated that root fillings with AH Plus and the MBP showed lower leakage values after 15 days (P < .05). At 30 days,

Repair of apical root resorption associated with periodontitis using a new intracanal medicament protocol.

Endodontic therapy is indicated for cases of traumatic tooth dislocation associated with pulp necrosis and/or inflammatory resorption. Here we describe the management of a maxillary left lateral permanent incisor that suffered lateral luxation, leading to pulp necrosis and root resorption, in a 13-year-old boy. The traumatized tooth was treated successfully by intracanal medication with calcium hydroxide, 2% chlorhexidine gel and zinc oxide for 12 months without any need to change the dressing, followed by conventional root canal filling. The postoperative course was uneventful and a stable cl

A Decade of Survival after Intracanal Repair of External Cervical Resorption in Esthetic Zone: A Case Report.

External cervical resorption (ECR) in anterior teeth poses significant treatment challenges due to esthetic and periodontal considerations. While external surgical repair demonstrates superior survival rates, internal approaches may be preferable for subcrestal lesions in the esthetic zone. This case presents a 25-year-old male with a Heithersay Class 3 and Patel 2Bp lesion. Microscope-assisted internal repair was performed using calcium hydroxide as an interim medicament, followed by mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) restoration and root canal obturation 12 days later. Clinical and radiographi…

Evaluation of the effect of EDTA, EGTA and CDTA on dentin adhesiveness and microleakage with different root canal sealers.

The effect of chelating solutions EDTA, EGTA and CDTA on human dentin adhesiveness and microleakage with 4 sealers (Sealer 26, Sealapex, N-Rickert and Endofill) was evaluated in vitro. Whether or not there was a mathematical correlation between the tests of adhesiveness and microleakage was also evaluated. A total of eighty maxillary and mandibular molars were used to test adhesiveness. After wearing of the occlusal surface to obtain a flat surface, the sealer was placed with an aluminum cylinder (10 mm x 6 mm). Adhesiveness was evaluated with a 4444 Instron universal testing machine. Microlea

Nonsurgical management of a dilacerated maxillary lateral incisor with type III dens invaginatus: a case report.

Type III dens invaginatus is a developmental anomaly characterized by an enamel-lined channel that originates on the coronal surface and passes apically through part or all of the root and exits into the periodontal ligament. In this case report, a 13-yr-old male had a Type III dens that exited at the midroot level of tooth #7. At that same level, the root dilacerated severely to the mesial, and a periradicular radiolucency was present on the distal. A 12-mm periodontal defect was present on tooth #6 and a sinus tract was present. All maxillary anterior teeth responded normally to pulp vitalit
