24 cases of cardiac rupture (CR) (12%) were found in 200 necropsies of patients who died from acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Examination of the various factors that may affect the onset of this complication showed that age, sex, the site of AMI, the presence of coronary thrombosis, the association of persistent arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus or previous angina syndrome and anticoagulant and corticosteroid treatment are insignificant. Three patients suffered blunt trauma that caused rupture of the site of cataract incision three to 12 years after surgery. Epithelial cells were noted in the old cataract would of a 79-year-old white man. The second patient, a 25-year-old black women, had bilateral ocular toxoplasmosis and loss of vitreous humor at the time of lens extraction. The third patient, a 63-year-old white woman, had open-angle glaucoma treated previously with filtering procedures and cyclocryotherapy. The ultimate outcome was poor in each case.

A perilymph leak into the middle ear through a ruptured round window membrane results in the symptoms of hearing loss, tinnitus and vertigo, either singly or in combination. Rupture of irradiated large vessels is an uncommon complication which tends to occur in carotid, aorta, and femoral arteries, in decreasing order of incidence. A patient is reported in whom rupture of the posterior papillary muscle of the left ventricle occurred following myocardial infarction. The intractable pulmonary oedema that followed responded to the combined surgical approach of mitral valve replacement, resection of the akinetic area of the left ventricular wall, and saphenous vein aortocoronary bypass. This combination of surgical procedures has not been reported to date, and was considered to have preserved adequate left ventricular performance.
