INTRODUCTION: Thoracic hyperkyphosis can occur idiopathically, in the context of Scheuermann's disease, or in association with neuromuscular or metabolic disorders. Treatment depends on the patient's age, severity of the deformity, and underlying conditions. Conservative measures such as physiotherapy and reclination bracing are used in mild cases, whereas surgical correction is indicated for kyphosis exceeding 60-70°. A known association exists between hyperkyphosis and pectus excavatum, the latter of which can cause cardiac symptoms. However, the impact of surgical kyphosis correction on car

INTRODUCTION: The literature contains several publications describing the use of visual arts to develop observational skills in medical stud … cic hyperkyphosis.
CONCLUSION: Differential diagnoses of the Duke's thoracic hyperkyphosis include Scheuermann disease, osteoporosis, and trauma-related spinal changes. Based on the available evidence, the Duke's thoracic hyperkyphosis could have been caused by repetitive trauma to the spine due to numerous hours on horseback with heavy armor. The role that osteopor …

UNLABELLED: The commonly taught premise that pediatric back pain frequently has an underlying diagnosis has been recently challenged. Previo … other patients had abnormal laboratory values but no definitive diagnosis. Other diagnoses included Scheuermann disease (n = 2), osteoid osteoma (n = 1), and a herniated disk (n = 1).
CONCLUSIONS: This investigation is the largest prospective study of diagnostic modalities in pediatric back pain to date. Contrary to most of the previously published data, most of our …

Objective: The purpose of this study is to present a kyphosis measurement method based on quadratic spline fitting through three key vertebral landmarks: T12, T8 and T4. This approach aims to capture thoracic spine curvature more continuously and accurately than traditional methods such as the Cobb angle and circle fitting. Methods: A dataset of 560 lateral thoracic spine radiographs was retrospectively analyzed, including cases of postural kyphosis, Scheuermann's disease, osteoporosis-induced kyphosis and ankylosing spondylitis. Two trained raters independently performed three repeated landma

BACKGROUND: Legg-Calve-Perthes disease (LCPD) is an avascular necrosis of the capital femoral epiphysis in children. Several studies found a pathophysiological relationship between LCPD and juvenile Scheuermann's kyphosis, suggesting an abnormal spinal condition related to osteochondrogenesis. In the present study sagittal spinal alignment of the patients with LCPD was analyzed to examine associated spinal involvement.
METHODS: A standing lateral radiograph of the spine was evaluated in 78 patients who had a history of LCPD. Various parameters of sagittal spinal alignment, including thoracic
