We describe a 9-mo-old Japanese infant who became infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis even after receiving Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccination at 3 mo of age. An 11-year-old girl with a superior incomplete sternal cleft underwent reconstruction of the sternum with autologous rib, cartilage, and sternal periosteum. We investigated the effect of Fe deficiency on the nutritive utilization of Fe, Ca, P and Mg in rats. Aside from the well known depletion of Fe in liver, femur and sternum with low values of Hb, Fe deficiency impaired Ca, P and Mg metabolism at different degrees. A two-day-old female Toggenburg goat with thoracic ectopia cordis (EC) was diagnosed via radiography and computed tomography. Deep sternal wound infections (DSWI) are infections of the sternum, mediastinum, or the muscle, fascia and soft tissue that overlie the sternum, typically occurring within a month of cardiac surgery.
