Incidental finding of a benign bladder tumor during the tension-free vaginal tape procedure.

As use of the tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) grows, more unexpected findings during this procedure are likely to be encountered. However, concomitant resection of a bladder tumor during the TVT procedure is rare. A TVT operation was carried out in a 56-year-old woman with urodynamic stress incontinence. A bladder tumor located in the trigone was found incidentally during cystoscopy. Concomitant resection of the bladder tumor was performed following the TVT procedure. The surgical result of our patient suggests that concomitant resection of a benign intravesical pathology with TVT procedure is

[Impact of rectal prolapse and rectocele on TVT results].

OBJECTIVES: The comorbidity between rectal repair surgery and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) repair by TVT (simplified suburethral sling procedure) is a poorly defined entity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of this combination on the quality of postoperative voiding and urinary continence. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of 12 patients (group 1) simultaneously treated by TVT and rectocele repair by anterior rectal mucosectomy (Sullivan: 6 cases) or rectal prolapse repair (open rectal fixation: 6 cases). They were compared to a group of 12 randomly selected patien

Severe adolescent female stress urinary incontinence (SAFSUI): case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Severe adolescent female stress urinary incontinence (SAFSUI) can be defined as female adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17 years complaining of involuntary loss of urine multiple times each day during normal activities or sneezing or coughing rather than during sporting activities. An updated review of its likely prevalence, etiology, and management is required. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The case of a 15-year-old female adolescent presenting with a 7-year history of SUI resistant to antimuscarinic medications and 18 months of intensive physiotherapy prompted this review. Management of Stress Urinary Incontinence in Patients with Underactive Bladder.

The coexistence of detrusor underactivity (DUA) and female stress urinary incontinence presents a challenge for urologists. The various DUA definitions used in the literature and the predominantly retrospective nature of most studies contribute to a low level of evidence regarding optimal management for these patients. However, efficacy outcomes appear to be quite similar to those observed for patients without DUA, albeit with a slight increase in voiding symptoms. The role of adjustable slings, bulking agents, and artificial urinary sphincters remains unclear, so identification of the most ap

A Novel Surgical Technique in a Sheep Model for Suburethral Graft Implantation.

Suburethral polypropylene mesh tapes for women were initially introduced into clinical practice for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence without being tested in an appropriate animal model. The goal of this work has been to establish and evaluate a suitable animal model for the assessment of suburethral tape grafts. Allowing for the anatomical similarities between ewes and women and recognizing the inevitable differences in posture, but recognizing prior work, this report presents a step-by-step description of the surgery involved in an animal model that simulates the implantation of s

The use of midurethral sling in the correction of low-stage cystoceles: a prospective randomized trial.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: The objective was to assess whether midurethral slings (MUS) can improve both stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and cystoceles. MUS with anterior colporrhaphy (AC) as a treatment for SUI with cystocele is more invasive and carries greater risk than MUS alone. METHODS: This is a prospective randomized study involving women with stage 1 or 2 cystocele and SUI, who were > 21 years of age, who had had no previous surgery for SUI. Predominant SUI, symptomatic anterior pelvic organ prolapse, and informed consent were mandatory. Patients were randomized as to whether AC

Midterm postoperative results of mid-urethral slings. Role of ultrasound in explaining surgical failures.

INTRODUCTION: Surgical treatment for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) with mid-urethral sling (MUS) is considered to have a high success rate. However, between 5% and 20% of MUS fail, with inadequate surgical implantation being a possible cause of SUI persistence or recurrence. Misplacement of a MUS can be determined by pelvic floor ultrasound (PF-US). The aim of this study was to investigate the role of PF-US in patients with persistent or recurrent urinary incontinence (UI) symptoms after MUS surgery for SUI with a midterm follow-up. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A historical cohort study includi
