We studied the prevalence of anticoagulant rodenticides (ARs) in liver and muscle tissues of wild boar captured in the urban area of Barcelona, the suburban area of Collserola Natural Park and the rural area of Santa Quiteria, next to Cabañeros National Park, in Spain. AIM: The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of formaldehyde-based fixation on dimension, weight and shape of cardiac tissue during a 1-year observation.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seven measuring sites were permanently marked in 40 swine hearts prior to fixation. Four study groups (n = 10 each) were assembled that differed only in concentration and the type of fixative. The fixatives were 2%, 4% or 10% formaldehyde phosphate-buffered solution (FPBS) and alcoholic formalin. The samples were measured before fixation and then after fixation at 1 week, 3, 6 and 12 months.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Real-time tomographic reflection is a novel technique that uses a geometrically fixed arrangement of a conventional ultrasound transducer, a transducer-incorporated monitor, and a half-silvered mirror. This device, dubbed the Sonic Flashlight, generates a virtual anatomically scaled image, obviating the need for a separate monitor. It may therefore facilitate invasive procedures, such as percutaneous access to the kidney. This proof-of-concept study assesses the feasibility of this technique for renal imaging and concomitant needle puncture guidance.

Vulva morphologies represent significant traits in pig production. Recent studies suggest that vulva size can be predictive of the reproductive performance of gilts. This study aimed to analyse the genetic parameters of vulva traits, including vulva length, vulva width, and vulva angle score (VAS), as well as litter traits, including total number born, number born alive, number stillborn, and piglet survival rate, across three Large White pig strains (PIC, Topigs, and Canadian).
