Since 1985 we have practised scan directed unilateral cervical exploration for patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (HPT) on the basis of a solitary parathyroid adenoma, and who had a pre-operative thallium-technetium subtraction scintigram demonstrating one focus of activity (positive scan). Between 1985 and 1993, a total of 160 patients with proven HPT and a technically satisfactory scintigram underwent neck exploration. Skeletal scintigraphy using Technetium-99m ((99m)Tc) complexes was carried out in a series of 332 cancer patients. The results of scintigraphy were compared with the results of roentgenography and with the diagnostic usefulness of serum alkaline and acid phosphatase levels and the presence or absence of bone pain. A 5-year-old Arabian horse was admitted with a 5-day history of undulant pyrexia of unknown origin, inappetence, obtundation, and acute collapse. The value of the dynamic 99mTc-mebrofenin liver scintigraphy in the diagnosis of extrahepatic bile ducts patency has been assessed. The study included 176 patients in whom an occlusion of bile ducts of any degree was excluded in 111 cases, and bile ducts patency disorders were diagnosed in 65 patients. If a hypertensive patient with renal artery stenosis (RAS) is to benefit from percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty (PTRA) in terms of a sustained improvement in blood pressure control, one may postulate a demonstrable reduction in renal blood flow (RBF) to that kidney, reversible by PTRA.
