Pulmonary Tuberculosis With Tuberculous Right Wrist Tenosynovitis, Hepatitis C, and Mild COVID-19 in a Kidney Transplant Indian Male: World's First Case.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has resulted in large-scale devastation. Reports of COVID-19 in patients with compromised immunity are available in the literature. The compromised immunity could be due to multiple factors like drug induced as in organ transplant patients, diabetes, HIV, etc. Post-transplant patients with compromised immunity due to immune suppression are vulnerable to many infections (tuberculosis, hepatitis B and C, etc.). Herein a case of an Indian male with a kidney transplant is presented who had concurrent infections of pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberc

Extensor pollicis longus tenosynovitis mimicking de Quervain's disease because of its course through the first extensor compartment: a report of 2 cases.

We present 2 cases of extensor pollicis longus tenosynovitis caused by the unusual course of the extensor pollicis longus tendon. The extensor pollicis longus tendon passed through the first extensor compartment and was constricted severely. The symptoms were similar to those of de Quervain's disease. The clinical presentation, diagnosis, and surgical technique of this very rare anatomic condition are discussed.

Relationship to the superficial radial nerve and anatomic variations of the first extensor compartment in Thai population: a basis for successful de Quervain tenosynovitis treatment.

Knowledge of the superficial radial nerve (SRN) relationship and anatomic variations of the first extensor compartment (1st EC) will contribute to a better outcome of de Quervain tenosynovitis treatment. We dissected 87 embalmed cadaveric wrists to determine the relationship of the SRN, the 1st EC length, distance from the proximal and distal 1st EC borders to radial styloid process (RSP), abductor pollicis longus (APL) and extensor pollicis brevis (EPB) tendon slip numbers, and the presence of septum. Our results revealed SRN crossing over the 1st EC in 59.5%. The lateral branch of the superf…

Predictive Value of Magnetic Resonance Imaging-detected Tenosynovitis of the Metacarpophalangeal and Wrist Joints for the Development of Rheumatoid Arthritis among Patients with Undifferentiated Arthritis.

Objective The early diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) improves disease outcomes. Using bilateral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), we investigated whether or not tenosynovitis at the level of the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) and wrist joints, as well as non-symmetrical versus symmetrical involvement, predicts RA development in undifferentiated arthritis (UA) patients. Methods We collected the clinical and serological findings as well as bilateral gadolinium-enhanced 1.5-T MRI data of UA patients after 1 year. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to determine the association o…

Molecular detection of Mycoplasma synoviae and avian reovirus infection in arthritis and tenosynovitis lesions of broiler and breeder chickens in Santa Catarina State, Brazil.

Infectious arthritis or tenosynovitis in broiler and breeder chickens results in major loss of productivity because of reduced growth and downgrading at processing plants. The most common causative agents of avian infectious arthritis are the bacterium Mycoplasma synoviae and avian reoviruses (ARVs) (family Reoviridae, genus Orthoreovirus). In this study, we evaluated the occurrence of these two pathogens in arthritis or tenosynovitis lesions of broilers and breeder flocks in southern Brazil using molecular detection. Tissue sections from tibiotarsal joints with visible lesions from 719 broile…

An abrupt onset of seropositive polyarthritis with prominent distal tenosynovitis concomitant with bronochiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP): consideration of the relationship with RS3PE syndrome.

A 64-year-old Japanese woman with a two-week history of polyarthralgia and persistent cough was diagnosed as seropositive polyarthritis and fulfilled the criteria of early rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In addition, inflammatory pitting edema of the distal extremities was apparent, suggestive of the remitting seronegative symmetrical synovitis with pitting edema (RS3PE) syndrome. A number of investigations including hand MRI, bone scintigraphy and HLA typing supported a diagnosis of RS3PE syndrome rather than RA. Chest computed tomography revealed concomitant evidence of bronchiolitis obliterans o

Giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath (nodular tenosynovitis). A study of 207 cases to compare the large joint group with the common digit group.

Clinicopathologic, enzyme histochemical, and electron microscopic findings in 207 cases (208 lesions) of giant cell tumor of tendon sheath (GCTTS) are presented. The GCTTS could be divided into two groups according to the anatomic location, the first occurring in the digits (digit group, 182 cases) and the second, in the larger joints (large joint group, 25 cases). In the majority of cases of the digit group, the tumor occurred in one of the fingers (158 cases), whereas in the large joint group, the tumor was common in the ankle (10 cases) and knee joints (8 cases). The lesion was more common

The wrist hyperflexion and abduction of the thumb (WHAT) test: a more specific and sensitive test to diagnose de Quervain tenosynovitis than the Eichhoff's Test.

De Quervain's disease has different clinical features. Different tests have been described in the past, the most popular test being the Eichhoff's test, often wrongly named as the Finkelstein's test. Over the years, a misinterpretation has occurred between these two tests, the latter being confused with the first. To compare the Eichhoff's test with a new test, the wrist hyperflexion and abduction of the thumb test, we set up a prospective study over a period of three years for a cohort of 100 patients (88 women, 12 men) presenting spontaneous pain over the radial side of the styloid of the ra

Bilateral recurrent wrist flexor tenosynovitis and rice body formation in a patient with sero-negative rheumatoid arthritis: A case report and review of literature.

INTRODUCTION: Rice body formation has been traditionally observed in the joint and tendon sheaths of patients with tuberculosis. Few case reports exist that describe rice body formation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. We describe a case report of bilateral recurrent wrist flexor tenosynovitis with rice body formation in a patient with sero-negative rheumatoid arthritis. PRESENTATION OF CASE: This case report describes a 72 year old lady presenting with severe bilateral, flexor tenosynovitis of the wrists. Ultrasonography revealed significant echogenic fluid on the palmer aspect of wris…
