INTRODUCTION: Epilepsy is a debilitating neurological condition characterized by spontaneous seizures as well as significant comorbid behavioral abnormalities. In addition to seizures, epileptic patients exhibit interictal spikes far more frequently than seizures, often, but not always observed in the same brain areas. The objective of this study is to describe the different aspects of tetanus during the past recent years in southern Vietnam: epidemiology, clinical picture, management, and death risk factors. It is a retrospective study concerning 389 cases admitted in 2007 and 2008 at the reference Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City. 93% of all cases were generalized tetanus, and 50% were severe cases. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of maternally derived antibody on the immunogenicity and reactogenicity of acellular (DTaP) or whole-cell (DTP) pertussis vaccine with diphtheria and tetanus toxoids combined.

Combined electron-microscopic and autoradiographic examination of axosomatic and axodendritic synapses in the central nervous system after various extreme exposures (phenamin, alcohol intoxication, local tetanus, shock, radiation trauma) was made. Destructive changes of the synapses and dendritic spines manifested in dissociation of pre- and postsynaptic parts, disorganization of the spine apparatus.
