Vasospastic Angina Masquerading as Plaque Erosion on Optical Coherence Tomography.

BACKGROUND: Myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries has diverse mechanisms, and reliance on intracoronary imaging alone may lead to misdiagnosis. CASE SUMMARY: A 70-year-old man presented with non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. Coronary angiography showed no significant stenosis, whereas optical coherence tomography (OCT) demonstrated an intraluminal thrombus over a lipid-rich plaque with an intact fibrous cap, suggesting plaque erosion. After treatment including a β-blocker, he developed recurrent chest pain 2 months later. Repeat angiography was unchanged, b

Pupil wobble in point-scanning retinal optical coherence tomography systems.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) systems utilize 2D scanning methods to acquire reflectance-based volumetric images of samples, such as the human retina, with micrometer-scale depth resolution. A common method for performing this scanning at high speeds is to use a pair of sequential, single-axis galvanometer scanners. An undesired effect of using separated scanners is the variation in the beam position at the pupil plane, a phenomenon known as beam wander or pupil wobble. This can lead to loss of signal and vignetting artifacts in the resulting images. To overcome these limitations, we prop

Metadata-enhanced contrastive learning from retinal optical coherence tomography images.

Deep learning has potential to automate screening, monitoring and grading of disease in medical images. Pretraining with contrastive learning enables models to extract robust and generalisable features from natural image datasets, facilitating label-efficient downstream image analysis. However, the direct application of conventional contrastive methods to medical datasets introduces two domain-specific issues. Firstly, several image transformations which have been shown to be crucial for effective contrastive learning do not translate from the natural image to the medical image domain. Secondl

Towards non-invasive tissue hydration measurements with optical coherence tomography.

The attenuation coefficient ( μ OCT ) measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT) has been used to determine tissue hydration. Previous dual-wavelength OCT systems could not attain the needed precision, which we attribute to the absence of wavelength-dependent scattering of tissue in the underlying model. Assuming that scattering can be described using two parameters, we propose a triple/quadrupole-OCT system to achieve clinically relevant precision in water volume fraction. In this study, we conduct a quantitative analysis to determine the necessary precision of μ OCT measurements and co

Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography in Uveitis-Glaucoma-Hyphema Syndrome.

PURPOSE: Uveitis-Glaucoma-Hyphema (UGH) syndrome results from contact between the intraocular lens (IOL) and the iris or ciliary body, leading to uveal structure erosion and blood-aqueous barrier breakdown. Treatment involves various drugs, with IOL removal often being necessary. Diagnosis relies on clinical signs, but imaging techniques like ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) or anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) are crucial. AS-OCT accurately depicts IOL position and potential contact, emerging as a primary alternative to UBM in the diagnosis. Our study aimed to correlate AS-
