SWEPT-SOURCE OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY ANGIOGRAPHY IMAGING OF THE CHORIOCAPILLARIS.

PURPOSE: To analyze swept-source optical coherence angiography images acquired at different depths above and below the default location of the Zeiss PLEX Elite 9000. METHODS: Normal eyes of subjects in their 20s and 30s were evaluated. Angiographic slab images were taken at the default location of 29 µm to 49 µm below the retinal pigment epithelium and 21 µm to 41 µm through 52 µm to 72 µm below in steps. The images were processed using the projection removal function from the device's software. Raw images were evaluated, as were images that underwent a published compensation technique that a

Predicting Age From Optical Coherence Tomography Scans With Deep Learning.

PURPOSE: To assess whether age can be predicted from deep learning analysis of peripapillary spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) B-scans and to determine the importance of specific retinal areas on the predictions. METHODS: Deep learning (DL) convolutional neural networks were developed to predict chronological age in healthy subjects using peripapillary SD-OCT B-scan images. Models were built using the whole B-scan, as well as using specific regions through image ablation. Cross-validation was used for training and testing the model. Mean absolute error (MAE) and correlatio

Evaluation of coronary plaques and atherosclerosis using optical coherence tomography.

Introduction: Coronary angiography (CAG) is the standard modality for assessing coronary stenosis; however, it has limitations in assessing coronary plaque morphology. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a high-resolution (10-20 μm) light-based intravascular imaging technique that can identify more detailed coronary plaque morphology compared to other intravascular imaging modalities. OCT is remarkable for characterizing fibrous, fibrocalcific, and lipid-rich plaques. The capabilities of OCT are well suited for discriminating three types of unstable plaque morphologies underlying coronary th

Optical Coherence Tomography Findings in the Junctional Scotoma of Traquair.

A 43-year-old woman presented with a right-sided visual field defect in the right eye. The visual acuity was normal and there was a right relative afferent pupillary defect. Formal visual field testing revealed a junctional scotoma of Traquair. The fundus examination showed optic atrophy in the right eye and optical coherence tomography demonstrated unilateral band atrophy. Neuroimaging revealed a sellar and suprasellar cystic pituitary adenoma for which she underwent a transsphenoidal drainage. We demonstrate the clinical and radiographic features of the junctional scotoma of Traquair and des

Non-optical coherence tomography modalities for assessment of angle closure.

Primary angle closure glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness, particularly in Asia. Its pathophysiology is based in the closure of the anterior chamber angle (ACA). In addition to gonioscopy (current reference standard), in the past decade, anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) has been incorporated in routine ophthalmic practice to help assess the configuration of the ACA. Especially in nonspecialist ophthalmology practice, gonioscopy may be less frequently performed and AS-OCT may not be available, leading to the need of other anterior segment evaluation metho

Utility of endoscopic anatomical optical coherence tomography in functional rhinoplasty.

Objective measurement of the nasal valve region is valuable for the assessment of functional rhinoplasty surgical outcomes. Anatomical optical coherence tomography (aOCT) is an imaging modality that may be used to obtain real-time, quantitative, and volumetric scans of the nasal airway. We aim to evaluate if volumetric aOCT imaging is useful for the examination of the nasal valve region before and after functional rhinoplasty procedures. aOCT scans of the nasal valves were performed on four cadaveric heads before and after spreader graft and butterfly graft procedures. The resulting aOCT image

Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography Findings in Optic Nerve Sheath Meningioma.

A 46-year-old female with a history of 5 months of progressive painless visual loss in the left eye was found to have an optic nerve sheath meningioma. Optical coherence tomography angiography showed a reduction in the superficial capillary plexus density consistent with her visual field defect and peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thinning. Moreover, abnormalities in the choriocapillaris were found in the affected eye compared to the fellow eye. Possible explanations for these findings are discussed. Further studies and a consistent number of cases are needed to correctly assess the imp

Optical coherence tomography angiography in diabetic retinopathy: an updated review.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a common microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) has been developed to visualize the retinal microvasculature and choriocapillaris based on the motion contrast of circulating blood cells. Depth-resolved ability and non-invasive nature of OCTA allow for repeated examinations and visualization of microvasculature at the retinal capillary plexuses and choriocapillaris. OCTA enables quantification of microvascular alterations in the retinal capillary network, in addition to the detection of classical features ass
