Hemisection of a molar denotes removal or separation of a root along with its accompanying part of crown. It is a suitable treatment option when the caries, resorption, perforation, or periodontal damage is restricted to one root while the other root is relatively healthy. Hemisection of the affected tooth helps to retain the tooth structure, surrounding alveolar bone, and may also facilitate the placement of fixed prosthesis. This case report describes the hemisection as a successful treatment method to save a grossly carious mandibular first molar with periodontal and periapical involvement.

Tooth eruption is a pivotal milestone for children's growth and development. This process involves with the formation of the tooth root, the periodontal ligament (PDL) and the alveolar bone, as the tooth crown penetrates the bone and gingiva to enter the oral cavity. This review aims to outline current knowledge of the adverse dental effects of antiresorptive medications. Recently, paediatric indications for antiresorptive medications, such as bisphosphonates (BPs), have emerged, and these agents are increasingly used in children and adolescents to cure pathological bone resorption associated …

The 11-year-old boy was diagnosed with severe external root resorption of the tooth 11 and chronic exacerbated apical periodontitis of the tooth 12. Additionally, the tooth 12 showed signs of dilaceration. The history revealed that at the age of 5, the boy had dislocated his maxillary deciduous incisors with impaction to the tissues. The root canal treatment of the teeth 11 and 12 was performed with the application ofBiopulp, Jodoform, and Metronidazole paste to the canal. The dressings were changed every 4 weeks for 6 months. The root canals of both teeth were filled with the Resilon Epiphany

Tooth loss due to periodontal disease, dental caries, trauma, or a variety of genetic disorders continues to affect most adults adversely at … el organ containing fully formed enamel. Our results demonstrate the first successful generation of tooth crowns from dissociated tooth tissues that contain both dentin and enamel, and suggest the presence of epithelial and mesenchymal dental stem cells in porcine third molar tissues.

Macrodontia in guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus) is a dental anomaly characterized by abnormal tooth enlargement and structural alterations that bear resemblance to odontoma. This review synthesizes current literature regarding the morphologic, histologic, and radiological aspects of the condition. Detailed examinations reveal that macrodontic changes affect both the crown and pulp, often leading to malocclusion, impaired mastication, and the formation of sharp edges on the tooth surface that irritate the oral mucosa. Overall, the complex presentation of macrodontia in guinea pigs underscores the

When a tooth fracture occurs, the fracture line can extend in a variety of directions, and the direction of the fracture line often dictates the treatment plan. In cases where fracture lines extend apical to the gingival margin, exposure of fractured margins becomes necessary. And management of such tooth fractures often requires an interdisciplinary approach involving endodontic, periodontic and restorative procedures. This article describes a case in which severely traumatized maxillary anterior teeth were managed by a combined approach involving surgical exposure and crown lengthening, endo

Pre-eruptive intra-coronal resorption is a rare intra-coronal dental disorder that typically emerges prior to tooth eruption. The radiological images show a well-demarcated low-density translucent area within the dentin adjacent to the enamel-dentin junction. This lesion is often accidentally discovered by radiological examinations. It may even progress to enamel and the dentin of the root. Currently, there is a considerable variation in the reported prevalence of this lesion. Its pathogenic mechanisms have not been fully revealed, and there is lack of systematic clinical management strategies

The complications of replacement resorption following tooth injury in growing children include infrapositioning of the tooth, tilting of the adjacent teeth, and alveolar ridge deformity. Decoronation is a conservative treatment method that facilitates bone preservation. The current case report focuses on the long-term preservation of alveolar ridge dimension following decoronation in three patients. Decoronation was performed prior to occurrence of the pubertal growth spurt, and the patients' ridge width and vertical apposition were monitored for at least 4 years. Timely intervention and regul

Traumatic injuries to the primary dentition are critical events in dentistry not only due to the need for urgent care, but also since they have potential sequelae in the permanent dentition, with a prevalence ranging from 12% to 74%. The aim of this article was to provide an overview of the prevalence, etiology, and clinical and radiographic characteristics as well as the management of permanent teeth sequelae resulting from traumatic injuries to their deciduous predecessors. An extensive literature review was performed to reveal the current evidence on enamel discoloration with or without hyp

Coronectomy of lower impacted wisdom teeth is the partial removal of third molars, aiming to avoid inferior alveolar nerve injuries. The coronectomy procedure has several crucial points, such as the pulpal, periapical preoperative conditions of the tooth, the way of crown sectioning and decoronation, the wound closure and the length of patients' follow up. In addition it is important to identify and manage possible intraoperative or postoperative complications correctly. According to the literature, the complication rate of coronectomy is usually lower, than that of total teeth removal, furthe

Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) with teeth severely damaged by dental caries and/or periodontal disease are often managed with medication and/or tooth extraction. A common endodontic treatment for severely decayed teeth in a 26-year-old female chimpanzee is reported. The left maxillary central incisor tooth had lost its crown, probably due to trauma that was not recent, and it had a fistula most likely due to chronic apical periodontitis. The diagnosis was confirmed radiographically before treatment. To treat the infected root canal, endodontic treatment used in humans was adapted for a chimpanz

Primordial cysts are often associated with unerupted teeth. Superimposition may result in a 'dentigerous cyst' appearance radiographically. There is usually no direct connection between the cyst lining and the follicle of the unerupted tooth. These have been termed envelopmental primordial cysts. In some instances, however, the primordial cyst actually surrounds the crown and the cyst lining is attached to the neck of the tooth in a true dentigerous relationship. We have called these lesions follicular primordial cysts. That portion of the lining immediately adjacent to the neck of the tooth c

BACKGROUND: The patterning cascade model of tooth morphogenesis accounts for shape development through the interaction of a small number of genes. In the model, gene expression both directs development and is controlled by the shape of developing teeth. Enamel knots (zones of nonproliferating epithelium) mark the future sites of cusps. In order to form, a new enamel knot must escape the inhibitory fields surrounding other enamel knots before crown components become spatially fixed as morphogenesis ceases. Because cusp location on a fully formed tooth reflects enamel knot placement and tooth si
