BACKGROUND: In cases of infraoccluded primary molars associated with agenesis of premolars, any treatment plan occasionally includes retention of the primary teeth for space preservation and future implant placement if needed. In these cases, building up the crowns to the occlusal line is necessary to prevent various clinical problems. The present case report describes in detail a novel but simple clinical approach for retention and building up of the crown of infraoccluded primary molars.
CASE REPORT/TECHNIQUE PRESENTATION: The technique is presented in a 14-year-old girl with nine missing p

Globally, dental caries remains a health concern due to their complications of pain, infection, and tooth loss. The traditional dental remineralization by using fluoride is effective but limited in advanced caries and continued treatments. While Calcium phosphate is beneficial in restoring mineral, it needs external aids to be effective. This research explores a synergistic approach to enhance tooth remineralization for a total of 72 samples by harnessing the effects of nano-chitosan, fluoride, and exposure to magnetic fields. The nano-chitosan solution is prepared using an ionic interaction m

UNLABELLED: During the past decades, scientific developments in cutting instruments have changed the conventional techniques used to remove caries lesions. Ultrasound emerged as an alternative for caries removal since the 1950s. However, the conventional technology for diamond powder aggregation with nickel metallic binders could not withstand ultrasonic power. Around 5 years ago, an alternative approach using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) resulted in synthetic diamond technology. CVD diamond burs are obtained with high adherence of the diamond as a unique stone on the metallic surface with

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: One of the important steps toward achieving a successful fixed partial denture treatment is the fabrication of interim restorations with good marginal adaptation. Poor marginal adaptation of the interim restorations will allow ingress of fluids and microorganisms between the restorations and may lead to caries and pulpitis. The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the marginal accuracy of interim restorations made from two polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and two bis-acryl materials.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: An in vitro method was used to replicate a clin

BACKGROUND: The structural integrity of teeth after endodontic retreatment depends on the amount of remaining dentin. Excessive instrumentation can weaken roots and predispose them to fracture. This study evaluated the fracture resistance of maxillary premolars following non-surgical retreatment (NS-ReT) with Retreaty and XP-endo Rise systems.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-eight maxillary first premolar roots were randomly assigned to 4 groups (n = 12); G1-NC (Negative control, non-instrumented), G2-PC (Positive control, instrumented, not obturated), G3-RETY (Retreaty), and G4-XPER (XP-endo Ri

Titanium implants are widely utilized for tooth root reconstruction due to their excellent mechanical and biological properties. However, their mechanical properties differ from those of dentin. This study aims to develop a 3D-printable polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) as a tooth root restoration material that mimics the natural root shape, mechanical properties, and biocompatibility. A bioactive glass (BG)-based photocurable slurry was prepared for vat photopolymerization, printed, sintered, and subsequently polymer-infiltrated to form 3D-printable PICN (3D-PICN). For comparison, 3D

Dental enamel covers the crown of the vertebrate tooth and is considered to be the hardest tissue in the body. Enamel develops during secretion of an extracellular matrix by ameloblast cells in the tooth germ, prior to eruption of the tooth into the oral cavity. Secreted enamel proteins direct mineralization patterns during the maturation stage of amelogenesis as the tooth prepares to erupt. The amelogenins are the most abundant enamel proteins and are required for normal enamel development. Phenotypic differences were observed between incisors from individual Amelx (amelogenin) null mice that

OBJECTIVE: Treating teeth with adhesive agents before placing a provisional restoration can prevent tooth sensitivity. This study evaluated the bond strength of resin cements to dentin treated with 2 adhesive agents and 2 provisional cements.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: Extracted human molars were prepared by exposing dentin and were treated with either Prime & Bond NT or Clearfil SE Bond. After a simulated impression technique, the teeth were provisionalized with either a eugenol or noneugenol temporary cement. Teeth were cleaned for bonding by either mechanical removal of the cement or use of an

BACKGROUND: The restoration of endodontically treated premolars with extensive coronal destruction requires a balance between biomechanical reinforcement and preservation of remaining dentin. Short fiber-reinforced composites (SFRCs) have been proposed as minimally invasive alternatives to conventional fiber post systems, but the optimal intracanal extension depth of flowable SFRC remains unclear. This study evaluated the effect of two intraradicular extension depths of flowable SFRC on the fracture resistance and failure patterns of endodontically treated premolars with mesio-occluso-distal (

We undertook this study to assess the analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties of ibuprofen when administered through two drug delivery systems after mandibular third molar surgery. The study was conducted on 100 patients who required the surgical removal of impacted mandibular third molars under local anaesthesia. The study subjects were divided into two groups of 50 patients each. Patients in the study group were given ibuprofen-incorporated chitosan-based microspheres, which were packed into the third molar sockets after removal of impacted teeth. Patients in the control group were prescr

AIM: The canine is the tooth that, together with the third molar, presents the highest risk of inclusion: 85% of these teeth are located in the palate and 15% in the buccal area. In most treatment plans, retained canines are driven to extrusion through orthodontic treatment. However, in some cases, for technical reasons or patient choice, it is not possible to perform this consolidated approach. The present clinical report evaluates 10 ectopic canines transplanted in both adults and younger patients with up to 60 months of follow-up.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Two clinical cases are described in detai
