PURPOSE: The long-term follow-up of workers with protracted exposure to low dose occupational ionizing radiation is important to understand the health effects and risks of radiation. A retrospective study of 43 pairs of … the disease, although the strength of association was not as high as that for asbestos. Exposure to uranium, chromium, nickel, cobalt, arsenic, x-rays, and alcohol did not appear related to later development of carcinoma of the larynx. Uranium mining and nuclear fuel production have led to significant U contamination. Past studies have focused on the bioreduction of soluble U(VI) to insoluble U(IV) as a remediation method.
