[Ileovesical fistula caused by bladder cancer with bladder stone].

Enterovesical fistula is a very rare complication of primary urological malignancies. A case of ileovesical fistula caused by a bladder carcinoma is presented. A 66-year-old male was referred with complaints of urinary pain. On admission, fecaluria and urinary tract infection with bladder stone were detected. Cystography revealed the passage of contrast medium into the small bowel. Under the diagnosis ofileovesical fistula due to suspected inflammatory disease, sigmoidectomy and segmental small bowel resection with partial cystectomy were performed. Histological evaluation revealed a poorly di

[Problems of fever after surgery of the bladder neck. How to classify the causal efficiency of reflux mechanisms].

Fever following operations on the vesical cervix was analysed in 167 patients, whereby the closing of the ostia was observed. Vesicoureteral reflux caused by lesion of the trigonal unit in the region of the inner vesical sphincter causes parenchymatous infection of the kidney to a lesser extent than expected. The specific conditions after the removal of an adenoma of the vesical cervix, with heavy bleeding, the necessity of urine drainage with all its weak points, the high level of bacteria in the urine combined with a delayed epithelization of the "inner wound" can be the starting point for a

Pitfalls in clinical staging of bladder tumors.

Errors in clinical staging of bladder carcinoma occur in about 50 per cent of patients. Sources of error include (1) a variable assortment of diagnostic studies performed, (2) inexactitudes inherent in the diagnostic measures employed, (3) insufficient corroboration by surgical and pathologic staging, (4) the lack of a satisfactory means for detecting micrometastases, and (5) a generalized confusion regarding the multiple classifications available for clinical staging. More precise clinical staging will be influential in treatment decision-making and in prognosis. Minimum requirements for clin

Hydrostatic pressure treatment for carcinoma of the bladder. A clinical and urodynamic evaluation of the effect on bladder hemorrhage and fibrosis in irradiated patients.

Hydrostatic pressure treatment as described by Helmstein was given to 12 patients with hematuria secondary at irradiation for carcinoma of the bladder. The bladder function was evaluated on the basis of urodynamic examinations before and after the treatment. The study includes examination of the effect on the renal function. In 6 patients, hemostasis was obtained for a period averaging 10 months. No serious complications occurred. Following irradiation, the patients showed a characteristic micturition pattern with a small bladder capacity and a marked increase in pressure during the filling ph

12th Annual meeting of the Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO) bladder cancer sessions I and II summary report.

Health care reform with the Affordable Care Act aims to control health care costs, in part, through the use of comparative effectiveness research and quality of care measures. Bladder cancer is one of the most expensive malignancies to manage as related to the need for continuous monitoring and the treatment of recurrence. The use of clinical practice guidelines relying on evidence based medicine in the management of patients with bladder cancer will help to ensure quality of care and cost containment. The goal of session I was to provide a thorough discussion of the quality of care and cost i

[Therapy, follow-up treatment and prevention of urinary bladder cancer].

Bladder carcinoma is a disease with a poor prognosis if the tumor is of advanced stage: the 3-year survival rate in stage T3 and T4 is 21 and 4%, respectively. Superficial, noninfiltrating lesions, i.e., TA and T1 (82% 3-year survival rate), have a considerably more favorable prognosis, but on the other hand are associated with considerable morbidity. Recurrent tumors can be expected in 50-90%, and more than five transurethral resections are necessary in 12.7% of the cases. Treatment modalities as directed by tumor stage and grade should be as radical as possible, although preservation of prop

Photodynamic Therapy: Current Trends and Potential Future Role in the Treatment of Bladder Cancer.

Bladder cancer (BC) is the 10th most common cancer in the world. The therapeutic spectrum of BC is broad and is constantly expanding. Despite the wide clinical use of photodynamic diagnosis (PTD) for BC, PDT has not been sufficiently investigated in the treatment landscape of BC. We performed an online search of the PubMed database using these keywords: photodynamic therapy, bladder cancer, urothelial carcinoma, in vivo, in vitro, cell line, animal model. Reviews, case reports, and articles devoted to photodynamic diagnostics and the photodynamic therapy of tumors other than urothelial carcino

Tumour tissue-derived small extracellular vesicles reflect molecular subtypes of bladder cancer.

mRNA-based molecular subtypes have implications for bladder cancer prognosis and clinical benefit from certain therapies. Whether small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) can reflect bladder cancer molecular subtypes is unknown. We performed whole transcriptome RNA sequencing for formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tumour tissues and sEVs separated from matched tissue explants, urine and plasma in patients with bladder cancer. sEVs were separated using size-exclusion chromatography, and characterized by transmission electron microscopy, nano flow cytometry and western blots, respectively. A lightweight bladder tumor segmentation method based on attention mechanism.

In the endoscopic images of bladder, accurate segmentation of different grade bladder tumor from blurred boundary regions and highly variable shapes is of great significance for doctors' diagnosis and patients' later treatment. We propose a nested attentional feature fusion segmentation network (NAFF-Net) based on the encoder-decoder structure formed by the combination of weighted pyramid pooling module (WPPM) and nested attentional feature fusion (NAFF). Among them, WPPM applies the cascade of atrous convolution to enhance the overall perceptual field while introducing adaptive weights to opt

Survival and clinicopathological significance of B7-H3 in bladder cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: B7-H3 has been implicated in clinical pathological features and prognosis across various cancer types, suggesting its potential as a cancer biomarker. Nevertheless, consensus remains elusive regarding its clinical-pathological and prognostic significance in bladder cancer. To address this gap, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane, and CNKI databases from their inception up to October 6, 2022. We evaluated the literature's quality using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. We performed meta-analysis

Vesical fungal bezoars on post-TURBT scar tissue causing obstruction and mimicking urothelial carcinoma.

Fungal bezoars (fungal balls) are rarely reported in the upper or lower urinary tract. They can be the cause of severe morbidities such as urinary tract obstruction, renal failure and fungaemia. Hereby, we present a rare case of a male patient who underwent transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT), and during his postoperative period, he was diagnosed with bladder fungal bezoars adherent to his resection area. The fungal bezoars were covering an extended area of the right lateral bladder wall, including the right ureteric orifice and causing right urinary tract obstruction. Those find

Gelsolin, an Actin-Binding Protein: Bioinformatic Analysis and Functional Significance in Urothelial Bladder Carcinoma.

The involvement of the actin-regulatory protein, gelsolin (GSN), in neoplastic transformation has been reported in different cancers including bladder cancer. However, the exact mechanism by which GSN influences bladder cancer development is not well understood. Here, we sought to reveal the functional significance of GSN in bladder cancer by undertaking a comprehensive bioinformatic analysis of TCGA datasets and through the assessment of multiple biological functions. GSN expression was knocked down in bladder cancer cell lines with two siRNA isoforms targeting GSN. Proliferation, migration,

Surveillance and office management of low-grade Ta bladder tumors.

OBJECTIVE: Patients with low-grade (LG), grade 1-2, Ta bladder cancer (BC) will frequently have a "recurrence". However, they rarely progress in stage. Although current guidelines mention surveillance and office management for these new or recurrent tumors, transurethral resection (TURBT) is the most common treatment. The purpose of this study is to determine if surveillance and/or office cautery is safe. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was conducted as a retrospective case series analysis of 45 patients who had recurrent LG Ta appearing bladder cancer (BC) and were managed primarily with s

Highly Sensitive and Specific Detection of Bladder Cancer via Targeted Ultra-deep Sequencing of Urinary DNA.

BACKGROUND: There is an unmet need for an accurate, validated, noninvasive test for diagnosing and monitoring bladder cancer (BC). Detection of BC-associated mutations in urinary DNA via targeted deep sequencing could meet this need. OBJECTIVE: To test the ability of mutational analysis of urinary DNA to noninvasively detect BC within the context of haematuria investigations and non-muscle-invasive BC (NMIBC) surveillance. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Capture-based ultra-deep sequencing was performed for 443 somatic mutations in 23 genes in 591 urine cell-pellet DNAs from haematuria cl
