Electrostimulation-treatment was carried out in 47 female patients suffering from urinary stress incontinence. A special electrode-pair was applicated in the vagina under the bladder neck. The electrostimulation lasted for 8 hours daily through 3 to 8 days on one hand, and on the other hand for 24 hours 3 to 5 times successively. In order to specify the cases and to perform the urodynamics a uroflow-cystometer by Wolf was used. The classification of the stress incontinence occurred by the Ingelman-Sundberg scheme. The cystometrograms of 61 patients with a history of stress incontinence and no other urinary symptoms were evaluated. Of the sixty-one patients, seven had unstable bladders and in seven of the patients stress incontinence could not be demonstrated. It was concluded that all patients with stress incontinence in whom surgery is being contemplated should be subjected to urodynamic study regardless of their history.

A controlled study was performed to determine the effect of oxybutinin on incontinence in spina bifida patients on clean, intermittent self catheterisation. Cure or significant improvement was achieved in 66.6% of the patients. Bladder capacity was increased and filling pressure reduced during treatment.

56 women with urinary stress incontinence were treated by transurethral Teflon injection. 48 of these patients (86%) were completely cured or greatly improved. No abscess or other complications were observed. Hospital stay is reduced to 2-3 days. The procedure is easy to perform and does not interfere with further surgery, should it be necessary. It is particularly useful after failure of previous surgery and in obese and debilitated patients.

Teflon was injected endourethrally in order to treat incontinence of the urinary bladder in 3 patients, by means of an injector constructed by the author. 2 patients with urodynamically ascertained stress-incontinence were continent after the injection, whereas in one patient suffering from incontinence after radical prostatectomy the result is to be considered unsatisfactory. The author's experience corresponds to reports previously published.

An outline is given of simple urodynamic investigations applicable to elderly subjects. The type of patient presenting primarily to geriatric departments with urinary incontinence, whose management is aided by such studies, is described under various clinical groupings. The requirement for urodynamic studies and the best means of providing these for the elderly patient is discussed.
