MR Imaging of Vulvar and Vaginal Cancer.

Vulvar and vaginal cancer are uncommon gynecologic malignancies, most frequently diagnosed clinically. MR imaging is a powerful tool for local staging of these tumors and to detect posttreatment complications and recurrent disease. This review presents anatomic delineation of the female pelvis, pathology and staging of vulvar and vaginal cancer, MR imaging techniques of the pelvis, MR features of vulvar and vaginal cancer, and the differential diagnosis of potential mimickers.

[Recurrence of a glassy cell carcinoma of the vagina: An exceptional situation].

Glassy cell carcinoma is a rare neoplasm that occurs most frequently in the uterine cervix. We describe the second reported case of glassy cell carcinoma arising in the vagina. We present a case of a 24-year-old woman with a history of post-coïtal bleeding associated with menometrorrhagia. Different explorations have concluded in a glassy cell carcinoma arising in the vagina, with clinical staging III according to the International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The patient received three cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy with a good response. Then she had a para-aortic lymphadenect

Vagina as a rare location of renal cell carcinoma metastasis.

INTRODUCTION: Metastatic renal cell carcinoma is often found in distant organs, including lung, bone, brain, and liver. Metastases to the vagina are extremely rare. CASE REPORT: The authors present a case of renal cell carcinoma metastasis to the anterior vaginal wall four months after nephrectomy in a 56-year-old patient. The vaginal lesions were excised. After two years the patient had no signs of recurrence or the disease progression. CONCLUSION: Vaginal metastases should be considered in differential diagnosis of female renal cell carcinoma patients presenting with vaginal bleeding of ma

[Brenner tumour of the vagina].

Vaginal tumours are rare, and Brenner tumour is one of the most infrequent vaginal lesions. Brenner tumour is a transitional tumour that typically arises in the ovaries. Some cases have been reported in the broad ligament, uterus and paratesticular structures. Only five cases have been reported in the vagina. We report a sixth case and discuss the histogenesis of this tumour, as well as the differential diagnosis with the mixed tumour of the vagina.

Primary non Hodgkin's malignant lymphoma of the vagina. Report of 3 cases with review of the literature.

Twenty cases of primary non-Hodgkin's malignant lymphoma (ML) of the vagina were studied: the 17 cases reported in the literature, and 3 further cases observed at the Hôtel-Dieu Hospital in Paris over the last 10 years. The mean age of the women was 49 years. The most frequent complaint was vaginal bleeding, only a few patients presented an ulcerated mass. No evidence of ML was seen on any of the cervico-vaginal cytologic smears. Diagnosis was made on the vaginal biopsy. According to the Kiel classification, 8 of these ML were of low malignancy and 12 of high malignancy. Apart from one of our

Sacrococcygeal Teratoma Presenting with Vaginal Discharge and Polyp in an Infant.

BACKGROUND: Sacrococcygeal teratoma accounts for the most common solid tumor in neonates. Because of improved technology, 50%-70% of cases can be diagnosed antenatally during routine ultrasound screenings. If not diagnosed antenatally, clinical findings at birth are distinct in most cases including a palpable or visible mass. CASE: We report an unusual case of a 1-year-old girl who presented with persistent vaginal discharge leading to diagnosis of a mucosal polypoid lesion of the vagina, ultimately revealing a hidden sacrococcygeal teratoma. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION: We suggest thorough inves

Colposcopic and cytologic detection of chronic lymphocytic leukemia in the vagina: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is one of the chronic lymphoproliferative disorders. CLL has a wide range of physical findings at the time of initial discovery, with lymphadenopathy being the most common. We report the first case of primary presentation of CLL of the vaginal cuff in an asymptomatic patient. CASE: A 68-year-old, white woman status post-total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for endometriosis 25 years earlier, was referred for colposcopic evaluation of low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion of the vagina. Pathologic examination, immun

Cytologic diagnosis of vaginal papillary squamotransitional cell carcinoma. A case report.

BACKGROUND: Papillary squamous and squamotransitional cell carcinomas of the cervix and vagina are infrequent morphologic variants of squamous cell carcinoma that may be underdiagnosed due to a bland histologic appearance. To our knowledge, this entity has not been previously detected by Pap smear evaluation. CASE: Vaginal wall pap smears were collected from a patient with a previous hysterectomy for microinvasive cervicovaginal squamous cell carcinoma and extensive carcinoma in situ. The smears were characterized by: (1) large, darkly staining, three-dimensional, branching, papillary epithel

Use of exfoliative cytology for diagnosis of transmissible venereal tumour and controlling the recovery period in the bitch.

Transmissible venereal tumour (TVT) is a rare vaginal tumour that can be treated surgically or cryosurgically as well as by radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Vincristine has been found to be very effective for treating TVT. Since vaginal secretion or discharge may contain neoplastic cells, the cytological identification of TVT cells is possible. The present study was carried out in 12 bitches. Vaginal smears were obtained with cotton swab from the anterior vagina and TVT suspected structures. The smears were stained according to Papanicolaou and assessed by light microscopy. Additionally the gener

Development of vaginal adenosis following combined 5-fluorouracil and carbon dioxide laser treatments for diffuse vaginal condylomatosis.

BACKGROUND: The management of vaginal human papillomavirus (HPV) lesions may be difficult. We report an unusual long-term consequence of treatment. CASE: A 40-year-old woman presented with vaginal adenosis following treatment of multiple vaginal condylomata by endovaginal applications of 5% 5-fluorouracil cream and vaporization of the remaining subclinical condylomata by CO2 laser. CONCLUSION: The approach to the management of vaginal condylomatosis should take into consideration the possible later occurrence of adenosis.
