Additive Manufacturing of a Photo-Cross-Linkable Polymer via Direct Melt Electrospinning Writing for Producing High Strength Structures.

Melt electrospinning writing (MEW) is an emerging additive manufacturing technique that enables the design and fabrication of micrometer-thin fibrous scaffolds made of biocompatible and biodegradable polymers. By using a computer-aided deposition process, a unique control over pore size and interconnectivity of the resulting scaffolds is achieved, features highly interesting for tissue engineering applications. However, MEW has been mainly used to process low melting point thermoplastics such as poly(ε-caprolactone). Since this polymer exhibits creep and a reduction in modulus upon hydration, …

Scaffolded role-play for cross-text integrative writing in elementary Chinese: a teacher-vetted AI-drafted materials classroom study.

INTRODUCTION: The Chinese Language Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education (2022 Edition) emphasize multi-text learning through learning task clusters, yet classroom practice often continues to treat linked texts as separate reading lessons. This study examined an integrated instructional package for linked-text reading and cross-text writing in Grade 3 Chinese. METHODS: A posttest-only classroom quasi-experimental design was adopted. Participants were two intact Grade 3 classes from a public primary school in Tianjin, China, with a valid analytic sample of 54 students. Both classes stu…

Research tool for classifying Gulf War illness using survey responses: Lessons for writing replicable algorithms for symptom-based conditions.

AIMS: Gulf War illness (GWI), a chronic symptom-based disorder, affects up to 30% of Veterans who served in the 1990-1991 Gulf War1. Because no diagnostic test or code for GWI exists, researchers typically determine case status using self-reported symptoms and conditions according to Kansas2 and CDC3 criteria. No validated algorithm has been published and case definitions have varied slightly by study. This paper aims to standardize the application of the original CDC and Kansas case definitions by defining a framework for writing reliable code for complex case definitions, implementing this f…

Learner Metacognitive Insights from Writing Professional Clinical Practicum Reflections: An Instrumental Case Study of a University-Based MLS Program.

BACKGROUND: MLS curricula often focus on factual theory and skills-based competencies. Evolving practitioners also need professional reflection skills to continually improve. The problem giving rise to the need for this intervention was that learners were not reflecting on their practicum experiences beyond thinking of tasks completed. The purpose of this qualitative case was to explore learner insight that arose from writing professional reflections across clinical practica during a university-based MLS program. Two elaborating research questions asked what metacognitive insights MLS learners…

Does transcranial direct current stimulation during writing alleviate upper limb freezing in people with Parkinson's disease? A pilot study.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) over the primary motor cortex (M1) can boost motor performance in Parkinson's disease (PD) when it is applied at rest. However, the potential supplementary therapeutic effect of the concurrent application of tDCS during the training of motor tasks is largely unknown. The present study examined the effects of tDCS on upper limb motor blocks during a freezing-provoking writing task (the funnel task) requiring up- and down-stroke movements at alternating amplitudes. Ten PD patients and 10 age-matched controls underwent two sessions of writing combine…
