We examined the effect of rotation-induced stress on (1) growth of lymphosarcoma tumors; (2) interleukin-2 (IL-2) production; (3) T cell subset distribution; and (4) cytotoxic T cell (CTL) function. The authors describe a new method of the treatment of patients with trigeminal neuralgias using electroconvulsive therapy. The method is based on the increase of beta-endorphin concentration as a result of electroconvulsive treatment. The treatment of 12 patients in accordance with the suggested method provided beneficial results and significant enhancement of the efficacy of therapy as compared to patients undergoing conventional treatment.

The effects of systemically administered clonidine on pituitary-adrenocortical axis in morphine-tolerant rats and after naloxone-induced withdrawal were examined. In naive animals, clonidine (0.5 and 1 mg/kg s.c.) significantly increased plasma beta-endorphin-like immunoreactivity (beta-END-LI) and cortisol levels. In order to explore the mechanism of secondary gastric acid hypersecretion after Roux-en-Y Cholangio-jejunostomy (CJR-Y), we studied the changes of gastric acid secretion and determined the levels of somatostatin (SS), gastrin (Gn), neurotensin (NT), beta-endorphin (beta-EP) in serum, gastric juice and pyloric antrum in patients with CJR-Y.
