A wide variety of anomalies may occur as a result of the vitelline duct (VD) failing to obliterate completely. Most reports on symptomatic VD focus on Meckel's diverticulum, while other anomalies are given little attention. A retrospective review was conducted at our institution. Gastrointestinal bleeding scintigraphy performed with (99m)Tc-labeled autologous erythrocytes or historically with (99m)Tc-sulfur colloid has been a clinically useful tool since the 1970s. This article reviews the history of the techniques, the different methods of radiolabeling erythrocytes, the procedure, useful indications, diagnostic accuracy, the use of SPECT/CT and CT angiography to evaluate gastrointestinal bleeding, and Meckel diverticulum imaging. The causes of pediatric bleeding are discussed by age.

We report the follow-up of a 29-year old female patient with Marfan disease described in another Journal when she suffered a Kommerell diverticulum (KD) dissection and underwent hybrid repair. She presented to us 2 years later with type I proximal endoleak, enlarging KD and descending thoracic aorta dissection, suffered from left ventricular dysfunction and prosthetic aortic valve stenosis. Definitive treatment included dismantlement of previous repairs and anatomical reconstruction.

Bronchogenic cyst, also known as inclusion cyst, is a type of congenital endodermal heterotropia derived from an abnormal development of the ventral diverticulum of the foregut or the tracheobronchial tree during embryogenesis. Its interatrial localization is extremely rare and making a final diagnosis without surgery challenges the clinician. Herein, we report a 58-year-old male patient who had an interatrial bronchogenic cyst related to transient ischemic attack.

The combination of right cervical aortic arch, aberrant retroesophageal left subclavian artery originating from a Kommerell's diverticulum, and a ligamentum arteriosum, constitutes a rare form of vascular ring. Two patients aged 21 days and 54 years, who were diagnosed by multislice 3-dimensional computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, underwent surgical division of a vascular ring. The adult required resection of a Kommerell's aneurysm and subclavian artery reimplantation.

A 52-year-old male and 55-year-old female underwent surgical resection of a voluminous symptomatic epiphrenic diverticulum via a right thoracotomy. A formal myotomy of the distal esophagus was not performed. The first patient had an uncomplicated recovery whilst the other patient still suffers from an esophageal-cutaneous fistula and repetitive abscesses, treated by intravenous antibiotics and percutaneous drainage. This report describes two newborn girls with single perineal opening (cloaca), and pseudoexstrophy in the form of divergent pubic bones and rectus muscles, and a low-set umbilicus. Both patients had a type II congenital pouch colon (CPC) with one hemiuterus and vagina on each side in the pelvis. In one patient, a Meckel's diverticulum was present 5 cm from the ileocecal junction. In both girls, a diverting proximal ileostomy was the initial surgery.

Jejunal diverticulosis is a rare acquired-disease which courses asymptomatic in most cases. In spite of the fact that there are some publications of this entity in pediatric patients, most symptomatic cases have been found in adults. Reported herein is the case of a patient that presented to the emergency room with signs and symptoms suggestive of an acute abdomen. After diagnostic workup and operative management, presence and complications of a jejunal diverticulum were found to be the cause of the abdominal pain.

A coconut phytobezoar was detected in the distal ileum of a 4-year-old boy, admitted for suspected appendicitis. While persimmon or citrus fruit ingestion has been previously reported as cause of phytobezoar intestinal occlusion, it is the first time that coconut pulp is described to cause ileal obstruction in children. No predisposing factor as previous gastric surgery or Meckel's diverticulum was present. The bezoar was successfully milked past the ileocecal valve into the right colon.

The classic symptoms of dysphagia, heartburn, and chest pain are the presenting manifestation of oropharyngeal and esophageal disorders in the elderly as well as the young. Several unique conditions, including Zenker's diverticulum and vascular compression of the esophagus, may occur in the elderly. Certain disorders, such as oropharyngeal dysphagia due to neurologic disorder, increase in frequency with age. Treatment approaches are similar in elderly and younger patients, but the potential for adverse drug effects and interaction is greater in the elderly than in the young.

There have been many approaches advocated over the years for the surgical management of hypopharyngeal diverticulum, and this is a reflection of the absence of an ideal method both in terms of the surgical technique and of the frequency and severity of complications. Further experience with the use of the surgical staple gun is presented together with a discussion of its use in comparison with other operative methods. The ease and speed of the technique combined with a negligible complication rate suggest that it is a viable method for the management of large diverticula.
