Outcomes, signalments, and the relationship of histologic features with the outcome of melanomas located in lip, nail bed, and haired skin of dogs were reviewed. These melanomas were diagnosed as benign or malignant based on histologic features. Melanomas of the lip arose from mucous membrane in most cases. 32 dogs with lip melanomas that had histologic features of malignancy, 22 died because of the tumor within 1 year and 10 were tumor free for at least 1 year following removal. In this paper the authors report on a rare site for a benign bone lesion. They describe the clinical, radiological diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures for a benign fibrous histiocytoma (BFH) of the proximal radial metaphysis. We report a pair of siblings who exhibit findings similar to those described in Heimler's syndrome, namely sensori- neural hearing loss diagnosed after the first year of life and enamel hypoplasia with normal primary dentition. Nail findings of Beau's lines and leukonychia which were described in the previous cases are absent to questionable in our patients. Our findings support the theory of autosomal recessive inheritance for Heimler's syndrome. To our knowledge there have been only three cases reported previously and the gene location has yet to be determined.
