The term "complicated" diverticulitis is reserved for inflamed diverticular disease complicated by bleeding, abscess, peritonitis, fistula or bowel obstruction. Hemorrhage is best treated by angioembolization (interventional radiology). Treatment of infected diverticulitis has evolved enormously thanks to: 1) laparoscopic colonic resection followed or not (Hartmann's procedure) by restoration of intestinal continuity, 2) simple laparoscopic lavage (for peritonitis +/- resection). Diverticulitis (inflammation) may be treated with antibiotics alone, anti-inflammatory drugs, combined with bed res

OBJECTIVES: To review the etiopathogenic, diagnostic and therapeutic criteria for female urethra diverticula.
METHODS: Urethral diverticulum was diagnosed in four patients, all of them with recurring urinary tract infections and irritative voiding symptoms. The final diagnosis was established by VCUG (Voiding cystourethrography). Other procedures, more recent and more in use, are also referred.
RESULTS: All patients required surgical treatment, three of them with good results and one without success. The therapeutic procedures most frequently used in the literature during the last decade are…

This is the second special article in a series that discusses important highlights in the field of aortic surgery. Specifically, this article reviews (1) outcomes in type A dissection, (2) recommendations related to ascending aortic disease from the 2024 European Society of Cardiology guideline, (3) Kommerell diverticulum, and (4) differences in outcomes in aortic surgery based on sex. The aim of this review is to aid cardiac anesthesiologists in keeping up to date on the latest literature in a field that is constantly evolving.

Cystic lesions of the vertebral column and spinal cord are important differential diagnoses in dogs with signs of spinal cord disease. Synovial cysts are commonly associated with degenerative joint disease and usually affect the cervical and lumbosacral regions. Arachnoid diverticulum (previously known as cyst) is seen in the cervical region of large breed dogs and thoracolumbar region of small breed dogs. This article reviews the causes, diagnosis, and treatment of these and other, less common, cystic lesions.

Although the double wall or muscular rim sign is considered to be a characteristic sonographic imaging finding of an enteric duplication cyst, this sign can also be produced by Meckel's diverticulum and sonographic artifacts. The Y-configuration on in vitro sonography has been reported to be useful for the definitive diagnosis of an enteric duplication cyst. Here, we report a case of an intraoperatively confirmed ileal duplication cyst that was correctly diagnosed before by identification of the Y-configuration on in vivo sonography.

Jejunal diverticulitis is a rare condition that can present with an acute abdomen and be referred for imaging. We present the case of an elderly patient who at CT was diagnosed with an intra-abdominal abscess involving both jejunum and transverse colon. However, the underlying eitiology was not initially clear until small bowel barium follow-through.Pertinent points regarding CT findings in jejunal diverticulitis are discussed, and practical recommendations in small bowel diverticulum recognition and diagnosis are made.

Duplications of the oesophagus are rare congenital abnormalities and rarely communicate with the oesophageal lumen. They are commonly associated with other congenital malformations, such as spinal deformities, congenital heart disease, vertebral anomalies, malrotation of the bowel, Meckel's diverticulum. During a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, performed because of a neurological dysphagia, the endoscopy revealed a very rare case of a 26-year old man affected by Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome, with an asymptomatic oesophageal duplication that communicated proximally and distally.

Intestinal duplication is a rare congenital anomaly; nonetheless, it comprises more than half of all alimentary duplication disorders. Our case report describes the hemorrhagic sequelae of this entity with surgical and pathologic findings. A review of anatomical classification, embryology, and natural history of duplication cyst follows; differentiating characteristics of duplication cyst versus Meckel's diverticulum are outlined. Intestinal duplication cyst should be considered in the differential diagnosis of GI bleeding, especially in children.

Urachal anomalies are usually found in early childhood or just after birth. These usually involve patent ductus urachus, urachal cyst, umbilical-urachal sinus or vesicourachal diverticulum. Very rarely are urachal anomalies found in adults, usully as an infected urachal cyst. We are presenting a case of surgically removed giant urachal retroperitoneal cyst that was found by chance during the abdominal ultrasound examination of a 22 year old man who was initially treated for idiopathic hypertension.
