PURPOSE: This prospective, multicenter trial was designed to assess the safety and effectiveness of a novel technique in the treatment of outlet obstruction caused by the combination of intussusception and rectocele by using a double-transanal, 33-mm circular stapler.
METHODS: From January to October 2001, 90 patients with outlet obstruction were operated on and followed (mean, 16.3 +/- 2.9 months) by the validated Constipation Scoring and Continence Grading Systems, clinical examination, defecography, and anorectal manometry. Spinal cord injury without radiographic abnormality (SCIWORA) is a rare phenomenon, but with advances in imaging and improvements in magnetic resonance imaging more cases are being identified. Even more uncommon is the finding of spinal cord avulsion as a type of SCIWORA with only single case reports in the literature. We present the case reports of 2 patients both experiencing spinal cord avulsion as a type of SCIWORA, secondary to improper lap-belt restraint during a motor vehicle accident.

This study aimed at characterizing the victims of medullar lesion (LM) and their daily needs. The data were collected in Maringi, Parani, Brasil, from 32 subjects by using semi-structured interview. AIM: Sacral neuromodulation (SNM) is considered the first-line surgical treatment in adults with refractory faecal incontinence (FI). However, its clinical efficacy has not been rigorously tested in a trial setting.
METHOD: Randomised, multicentre, double-blind crossover trial (two 16-week periods) of active stimulation versus sham, and open-label follow-up to 58 weeks.
PARTICIPANTS: adults aged 18-80 with refractory FI.
