Rural and regional maternity managers' and educators' views of the Maternity and Newborn Emergencies (MANE) education program in Victoria, Australia: a qualitative descriptive study.

BACKGROUND: Australia has one of the lowest perinatal morbidity and mortality rates in the world, however a cluster of perinatal deaths at a regional health service in the state of Victoria in 2015 led to state-wide reforms, including the introduction of the Maternity and Newborn Emergencies (MANE) program. MANE was a 2-day interprofessional maternity education program delivered by external expert facilitators to rural and regional Victorian maternity service providers. An independent evaluation found that the MANE program improved the confidence and knowledge of clinicians in managing obstetr

A Culturally Tailored Mobile Health Intervention to Improve Quality of Life in Black Survivors With Prostate Cancer: Protocol for a Stratified Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer (CaP) disproportionately affects Black men in the United States, leading to significant disparities in incidence, survival, and quality of life (QoL). Treatment-related side effects, including urinary dysfunction, pain, fatigue, and psychological distress, contribute to poor long-term outcomes. There is an urgent need for culturally-tailored, technology-based interventions to support symptom self-management and survivorship care. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to develop, refine, and evaluate the Survivorship App for Ethnically Diverse Black Prostate Cancer Survivors (

Respondent-Reported Acceptability and Tolerability of a Nurse-Assisted, Self-Collected Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Cervical Cancer Screening Model in Adults With Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities: A Preliminary Report.

Background and objective Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) are screened for cervical cancer at substantially lower rates than adults without disabilities. Communication differences, sensory sensitivities, and difficulty tolerating speculum-based examination all contribute. Deferred screening is frequently recorded as patient refusal rather than as an unmet need for adapted care. Human papillomavirus (HPV) testing on self-collected vaginal specimens is now recognized as an acceptable screening option, but published implementation strategies for this population are li

Spatial distribution and associated factors influencing 2024 Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign coverage among children aged 9-59 months in Mainland Tanzania: A multi-level mixed-effect analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Globally, measles remains a major cause of child mortality, and rubella is the leading cause of birth defects among all infectious diseases. In Mainland Tanzania, eliminating measles and rubella remains challenging due to geographical diversity, uneven healthcare facilities distribution, and socio-economic disparities across regions. Understanding spatial patterns and associated determinants of vaccination coverage is essential for improving campaign effectiveness. This study aimed to explore the spatial distribution and associated factors of measles-rubella campaign coverage amo

The role of prehabilitation in HNSCC patients treated with chemoradiotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Radiotherapy (RT) is used in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) with excellent effectiveness, but it is burdened by important side effects, which may negatively impact patients' quality of life (QoL). In particular when associated with chemotherapy (CT), that has a radiosensitising effect (and its own toxicities), it is responsible for several adverse events, causing social discomfort and lower QoL, in patients who are already experiencing several tumor-related discomforts. Prehabilitation is a healthcare intervention consisting of several specialist visits prior to the

Analyzing Usage of the Metaverse by Associations of Patients With Prostate Cancer During the 2023 Blue Ribbon Campaign: Cross-Sectional Survey Study.

BACKGROUND: It is important to explain early diagnosis and treatment plans to patients of prostate cancer due to the different stages that diagnosis is made at and the corresponding stage-specific treatment options, as well as the varying prognoses depending on the choices made. Although various studies have implemented metaverse-based interventions across diverse clinical settings for medical education, there is a lack of publications addressing the implementation and validation of patient education using this technology. OBJECTIVE: This study explored the potential of the metaverse as an ed

'I'm still here, that's probably the best part'. Lives of those living rurally with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator: a qualitative study.

INTRODUCTION: The use of implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) is increasing in both New Zealand and Australia. Also, both countries are experiencing an ageing of their rural populations. Much of the ICD literature focuses on the experience of those living in urban environments, with little known about the experiences of those living in rural contexts. This study aimed to answer the following questions: 'Does living rurally impact the ICD recipient experience and that of their partners?' and 'Can understanding their experiences inform best practice care for those living rurally with a

Baseline characteristics of people experiencing homelessness in the PHOENIx community pharmacy multicentre pilot randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: People experiencing homelessness (PEH) are amongst the most marginalised populations in the society. Despite facing extreme health inequalities and poorer outcomes than the general population, they are under-represented in clinical trials. Little is hence known about the physical, mental health and social characteristics of PEH as clinical trial participants. Cross-sectoral complex interventions aiming to mitigate health, wellbeing and wider inequalities faced by PEH are urgently needed. METHODS: This paper reports on baseline characteristics of PEH from the PHOENIx Community Pharm

The Shift in Delivery of Care from Hospital to Community Care Settings: What Changes in Terms of Healthcare Workers' Exposure to Violence.

Background: Despite the general interest in WPV against healthcare workers, there is evidence that this topic has comparatively fewer studies conducted in the context of community settings than in hospital settings. Given the current general transition of care from hospital to community, this study aims to analyze whether community settings present different characteristics in comparison with hospital settings on this topic in Italy. Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted from 2020 to 2024 on aggressions reported by HCWs in hospitals and community settings belonging to a Lo

Anti-Müllerian hormone levels and incidence of early natural menopause in a prospective study.

STUDY QUESTION: Are anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels assessed in women aged 32-44 associated with risk of incident early natural menopause? SUMMARY ANSWER: We observed strong, significant associations between lower AMH levels and higher risk of early menopause. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: The ability to predict risk early menopause, defined as menopause before age 45, prior to fertility decline would improve options for family planning and cardiovascular disease prevention. Though AMH is an established marker of menopause timing in older reproductive-aged women, whether AMH is associated with

Health and socio-demographic profile of women of reproductive age in rural communities of southern Mozambique.

Reliable statistics on maternal morbidity and mortality are scarce in low and middle-income countries, especially in rural areas. This is the case in Mozambique where many births happen at home. Furthermore, a sizeable number of facility births have inadequate registration. Such information is crucial for developing effective national and global health policies for maternal and child health. The aim of this study was to generate reliable baseline socio-demographic information on women of reproductive age as well as to establish a demographic surveillance platform to support the planning and im

Folic acid awareness and use among women with a history of a neural tube defect pregnancy--Texas, 2000-2001.

The use of folic acid is a critical component in preventing birth defects. Health-care providers should take advantage of all health-care visits to counsel not only women at high risk (i.e., those with a history of having an infant with a neural tube defect [NTD]) but all women regarding the importance of folic acid use. A study conducted in Texas confirmed that white and Hispanic mothers were equally likely to recall receiving postpartum advice to use folic acid; however, Hispanic women were much less likely to use folic acid, compared with white women. This report covers data from May 2000 t

A predictive model of inadequate minimum dietary diversity among women with a child under 24 months in ethiopia: a machine learning approach using the 2016 EDHS.

BACKGROUND: Mothers with inadequate intake of micronutrients are a serious and collective global health issue, especially in poverty stricken areas. However, the available studies in Ethiopia have been usually focused in early childhood nutrition using old statistical methods. The aim of this study is to apply multiple machine learning algorithms to construct a high fidelity predictive model and identify key predictors of Inadequate Minimum Dietary Diversity for Women among Ethiopian mothers with a child under 24 months. METHODS: A weighted sample of 3,914 women from the Ethiopian Demographic

Post-Stroke Limitations on Activities of Daily Living and Associated Factors in Public Tertiary Hospitals in Amhara Regional State, Ethiopia: A Multicenter Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Stroke survivors often face challenges with basic activities of daily living (ADLs), which can compromise their health by making it difficult to perform everyday tasks independently. These limitations frequently lead to sedentariness, increased morbidity, and mortality. Although the prevalence of post-stroke limitations in basic ADLs varies significantly among studies, there is a general lack of data, particularly from Ethiopia. This lack of research hinders a comprehensive understanding of the extent of ADL limitations among stroke survivors in the region and their associated heal

Policy Responses to the COVID-19 Pandemic in High-Income Countries and the Associated Maternal-Infant Health Outcomes: A Systematic Literature and Policy Review.

BACKGROUND: Foreseeing how policy impacts pregnant women and infants is limited by ethical challenges of experimental research within these groups. The COVID-19 pandemic generated natural experiments, offering rare opportunities to explore associations between specific policy responses and maternal-infant health outcomes. These insights are useful for informing policy design aligned with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. AIMS: To systematically review evidence of associations between COVID-19 policies, OxCGRT Stringency Index (a University of Oxford tool for comparing the stringency of

Validation of Wound Assessment Instruments Across Brazilian Clinical Contexts: Protocol for a Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Wounds are common and clinically consequential, and consistent assessment is essential for communication, monitoring, and decision-making. Although multiple wound assessment instruments exist, there is no agreement among specialists on which criteria to prioritize during validation processes and evidence synthesis remains insufficient within the Brazilian context. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aims to map which aspects of wound assessment instruments are considered important by expert health professionals when validating these instruments in the Brazilian context across clinical

Barriers and facilitators of implementing public-private mix approaches for active tuberculosis case finding and health insurance access in at-risk populations in Ghana: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: In Ghana, although free tuberculosis (TB) services are provided at public facilities, the TB case detection rate is still lower than anticipated. To enhance TB case detection, private community healthcare providers and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) have been involved using a Public-Private Mix (PPM) model, which includes active case finding (ACF) and access to insurance. This study examines the facilitators and barriers to implementing a PPM model that aims to expand ACF and provide health insurance to newly diagnosed TB patients among at-risk populations in two Ghana

The impact of multiplex panel testing on ascertainment of pertussis-attributable, non-infant deaths: national surveillance from England.

Understanding the burden of pertussis and pertussis-related mortality is important in enabling a better understanding of population vulnerability and supporting vaccination program planning. However, changes in laboratory practice can have important implications for public health surveillance. This study considers the impact of increasing use of multiplex panel testing for respiratory pathogens on the ascertainment of pertussis-related non-infant deaths, drawing on multiple surveillance data sources from England. Information was sourced from the Office of National Statistics cause of death rec
