A Comprehensive General Model of Tendon-Actuated Concentric Tube Robots with Multiple Tubes and Tendons.

Tendon-actuated concentric tube mechanisms combine the advantages of tendon-driven continuum robots and concentric tube robots while addressing their respective limitations. They overcome the restricted degrees of freedom often seen in tendon-driven designs and mitigate issues such as restricted curvatures associated with concentric tube robots. However, a complete and general mechanical model for these systems remains an open problem. In this work, we propose a Cosserat rod-based framework for modeling the general case of n concentric tubes, each actuated by m i tendons, where i = { 1 , …

[Expert consensus on the responsibilities of robot-assisted gastric cancer surgery assistants (2026 version)].

As a complex surgical method, the success of robot-assisted radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer depends not only on the superb skills of the operating surgeon, but also on the close cooperation of the assistant team. However, there is still a lack of unified standards for the training, assessment and responsibility definition of assistants in robot-assisted gastric cancer surgery at home and abroad. To standardize the operation procedures of such surgical assistants, clarify their specific roles and tasks during the perioperative period, and further improve the overall efficiency of the sur

Testing the usability of a voice control system for assistive robotic arms in people with neurological conditions.

The acceptance and effective use of assistive robotic arms by people with neurological conditions strongly depend on the usability of the control interface. This study evaluated the usability of a voice control system for an assistive robotic arm in both healthy participants and individuals with neurological disorders, and compared its applicability and effectiveness with conventional joystick control. A voice control module based on automatic speech recognition and text-to-speech feedback was developed for a commercially available 6-degree-of-freedom assistive robotic arm. The system was impl

Measurement of trainee autonomy in robotic-assisted lung resections using objective performance indicators.

Trainee autonomy in robotic-assisted thoracic surgery is critical for growth but difficult to quantify. Robotic platforms can log intraoperative kinematic and event data that can be transformed into metrics known as objective performance indicators (OPIs). This study sought to use OPIs obtained during robotic-assisted anatomic lung resections to assess trainee console autonomy at a high-volume robotic center. OPI data were obtained from 59 lobectomies and segmentectomies performed on a multi-port robotic platform between March 2022 and May 2023. Cases were divided into anatomic steps and annot

Expanding the Limits of Robotic Thyroidectomy: Management of a Rare Presentation of Thyroid Carcinoma With Supraglottic Extension.

Thyroid carcinoma ranks as the seventh most common malignancy globally by incidence, though its mortality remains relatively low. We present a rare case of papillary thyroid carcinoma in a 32-year-old male, with supraglottic extension of the right thyroid lobe, managed successfully using a robotic-assisted bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA). The total operative duration was 4 h, and the postoperative course was uneventful, with early recovery and excellent cosmetic outcome. Histopathology confirmed multifocal papillary thyroid carcinoma (mpT2N1b) with central and right selective neck node

Translation, sorting and enrichment: acoustic valve micro robotic system for multifunctional micro manipulation.

The precise manipulation of micro-scale targets is a foundational technology driving advancements in biomedical engineering, clinical diagnostics, and micro-manufacturing. Here, we present a multifunctional acoustic valve microrobotic system capable of the precise manipulation of cells and microorganisms. The focused surface acoustic wave transducers are utilized to form valve-like potential wells, thereby enabling stable entrapment and transportation of micro targets. Based on this ability, it can further realize direct sorting and enrichment, by sweeping the acoustic field through the target

Do predictors of motor recovery differ between robotic and conventional post-stroke rehabilitation?

BACKGROUND: While research on robotic rehabilitation has largely focused on evaluating device effectiveness, there remains a clear need to investigate patient characteristics that predict response to robot-assisted therapy. Recent advancements in machine learning (ML) techniques support such investigations by enabling the development of data-driven tools to assist in selecting appropriate rehabilitation treatments. This study aimed to develop two ML models, predicting two motor outcomes each, following either robot-assisted or conventional upper limb rehabilitation in post-stroke patients. It

Enhancing sit-to-stand transitions and walking efficiency in older adults with a soft robotic suit.

Age-related declines in muscle strength and neuromuscular control make sit-to-stand transitions and walking progressively more difficult, compromising mobility and independence. Although wearable assistive technologies have been proposed to alleviate these challenges, few have demonstrated clear benefits in facilitating sit-to-stand movements for older adults who retain a degree of independent mobility. Here, we introduce a soft hip exosuit designed to assist both sit-to-stand transitions and walking activities. In a feasibility study involving ten older adults, the exosuit increased 1-minute

Heterotopic Ossification at Tracker Pin Sites Following Robotic-Assisted Total Knee Arthroplasty.

CASE: A 72-year-old Caucasian man presented with left knee osteoarthritis and underwent Mako robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Two months postoperatively, he complained of mild discomfort in his left quadriceps and limited flexion, with an active range of motion (ROM) from 0° to 60°. At 10 months, his ROM had not improved, and plain radiographs revealed a large, calcified mass in the distal femur, which appeared to be emanating from the tracker pin sites used during Mako robotic-assisted TKA, raising concern for heterotopic ossification (HO). He subsequently underwent excision of

Modular Vaccine Robots for Spatiotemporal Programming of the CD4+ T Cell-Myeloid Cell Axis.

Here, we developed a magnetically driven modular Janus vaccine robot (MVR) with orthogonally functional domains to achieve spatiotemporal coordination of CD4+ T cell-myeloid cell-mediated tumor killing. The oleic acid-modified CoFe2O4 (OA@CF) and carboxyl-modified T cell-targeting aptamers are selectively assembled onto the hydrophobic and hydrophilic domains of JSPs, respectively, which form an orthogonal surface structure capable of adhering on the cell membrane. The magnetic module enables the MVR to achieve membrane disruption, antigen release, capture, and magnetically guided delivery tow
