World's First Real-Time Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Mechanical Thrombectomy for Acute Ischemic Stroke.

Several recent reports have discussed real-time artificial intelligence (AI) assistance in elective neuroendovascular procedures such as carotid artery stent placement, coil embolization for cerebral aneurysms, and liquid embolization. We present our preliminary experience with real-time AI-assisted mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) under local anesthesia. A real-time deep learning-based AI software (Neuro-Vascular Assist, iMed Technologies) was used during MT for 16 consecutive patients with AIS. The AI system provided real-time notifications when the guiding cathet

DZC DIAG: mobile application based on expert system to aid in the diagnosis of dengue, Zika, and chikungunya.

Dengue, Zika, and chikungunya are epidemic diseases transmitted by the Aedes mosquito. These virus infections can be so severe to the point of bringing on mobility and neurological problems, or even death. Expert systems (ES) can be used as tools for the identification of patterns intended to solve problems in the same way as a professional specialist would. This work aimed to develop an ES in the form of an Android application to serve as a supportive tool in the diagnosis of these arboviruses. The goal is to associate the set of symptoms from a patient to a score related to the likelihood of

Online learning algorithms for principal component analysis applied on single-lead ECGs.

This article evaluates several adaptive approaches to solve the principal component analysis (PCA) problem applied on single-lead ECGs. Recent studies have shown that the principal components can indicate morphologically or environmentally induced changes in the ECG signal and can be used to extract other vital information such as respiratory activity. Special interest is focused on the convergence behavior of the selected gradient algorithms, which is a major criterion for the usability of the gained results. As the right choice of learning rates is very data dependant and subject to movement

Real-time quantitative visualization of 3D structural information.

We demonstrate a novel approach for the real time visualization and quantification of the 3D spatial frequencies in an image domain. Our approach is based on the spectral encoding of spatial frequency principle and permits the formation of an image as a color map in which spatially separated spectral wavelengths correspond to the dominant 3D spatial frequencies of the object. We demonstrate that our approach can visualize and analyze the dominant axial internal structure for each image point in real time and with nanoscale sensitivity to structural changes. OpenMDC: an open-source framework for medical device communication.

We have developed an extensible, open source framework for collecting data from bedside medical devices which support RS-232 serial output. The system uses inexpensive hardware to convert RS-232 signals to Universal Serial Bus (USB) format, enabling "plug-and-play" device communication at low cost. A prototype of the system has been created and tested with Puritan-Bennett 840 ventilators.

Value of automatic processing and reliability of stored data in an implanted pacemaker: initial results in 59 patients.

Stored data in implantable pacemakers have rarely been used as a diagnostic tool because of the complexity. Our group has developed software called AIDA, providing an automatic interpretation of data stored in memories of the Chorus (ELA medical) pacemaker. We compared the results of AIDA analysis to surface ECG Holter interpretation in 59 patients (age 75 +/- 9 years). In 33 cases, neither AIDA nor the Holter found any anomaly. Eleven patients demonstrated episodes of supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), confirmed by AIDA in ten patients; AIDA failure was due to nonsustained episodes of SVT no

A Wearable, Dual Closed-loop Insulin Delivery System for Precision Diabetes Management.

Effective blood glucose management is an increasing demand worldwide. Traditional solutions separate glucose detection and insulin delivery, which is less efficient compared to emerging closed-loop wearable systems controlled by continuous glucose monitors (CGMs). However, CGM-controlled systems raise new safety risks, as false CGMs readings can cause insulin overdose, which results in hypoglycemia and fatal consequences. This work proposes a concept of a dual closed-loop insulin delivery system (DuoLoop) to mitigate the risk issue of CGM-controlled systems. The first closed-loop is automated

Generalized Form for Finite-Size Corrections in Mutual Diffusion Coefficients of Multicomponent Mixtures Obtained from Equilibrium Molecular Dynamics Simulation.

The system-size dependence of computed mutual diffusion coefficients of multicomponent mixtures is investigated, and a generalized correction term is derived. The generalized finite-size correction term was validated for the ternary molecular mixture chloroform/acetone/methanol as well as 28 ternary LJ systems. It is shown that only the diagonal elements of the Fick matrix show system-size dependency. The finite-size effects of these elements can be corrected by adding the term derived by Yeh and Hummer (J. Phys. Chem. B 2004, 108, 15873-15879). By performing an eigenvalue analysis of the fini

Microscopic abnormality classification of cardiac murmurs using ANFIS and HMM.

Auscultation of heart dispenses identification of the cardiac valves. An electronic stethoscope is used for the acquisition of heart murmurs that is further classified into normal or abnormal murmurs. The process of heart sound segmentation involves discrete wavelet transform to obtain individual components of the heart signal and its separation into systole and diastole intervals. This research presents a novel scheme to develop a semi-automatic cardiac valve disorder diagnosis system. Accordingly, features are extracted using wavelet transform and spectral analysis of input signals. The prop

Pulmonary hemorrhage in a patient initially presenting with discoid lupus.

As a cutaneous variant of lupus erythematosus, discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) is thought to have a good prognosis; however, the involvement of internal organs with a transition to systemic disease may occur. The progression from DLE to systemic lupus erythematosus has been reported in up to 28% of patients. This progression to systemic disease has been associated with a benign course. Herein, we report the case of a 31-year-old woman with a 10-year history of discoid lupus, now presenting with dyspnea and pleuritic chest pain of 1 month's duration. A significant drop in hemoglobin and hemat

Cardio-pulmonary involvement in systemic sclerosis: A study at a tertiary care center.

BACKGROUND: Systemic sclerosis is a multisystem disorder characterized by microangiopathy, dysregulation of the immune system and massive deposition of collagen in the connective tissue of the skin, blood vessels and various internal organs. Although the mortality from renal crises has dropped significantly due to the use of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, cardiac and pulmonary involvement accounts for significant morbidity and mortality. We studied 28 patients with systemic sclerosis at Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Hyderabad, over a period of two years for cardiopulmonary in

Hybrid intelligence systems for reliable automation: advancing knowledge work and autonomous operations with scalable AI architectures.

INTRODUCTION: Mission-critical automation demands decision-making that is explainable, adaptive, and scalable-attributes elusive to purely symbolic or data-driven approaches. We introduce a hybrid intelligence (H-I) system that fuses symbolic reasoning with advanced machine learning via a hierarchical architecture, inspired by cognitive frameworks like Global Workspace Theory (Baars, A Cognitive Theory of Consciousness, 1988). METHODS: This architecture operates across three levels to achieve autonomous, end-to-end workflows: Navigation: Using Vision Transformers, and graph-based neural netwo

The evaluation crisis in artificial intelligence-driven computational biology: Pitfalls and solutions.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming computational biology. However, closer scrutiny reveals that many reported results do not hold under rigorous evaluation. This paper identifies prevalent, recurring issues in the field, including narrow datasets, hidden confounders that make supposedly independent test data effectively indistinguishable from the training data (the doppelgänger effect), misleading performance metrics, and over-reliance on overly easy test cases. We argue that meaningful assessment must go beyond metric-centric model evaluation to encompass biological realism,

Uncertainty-aware human-machine collaboration in Camouflaged Object Detection.

Camouflaged Object Detection (COD), the task of identifying objects concealed within their environments, has seen rapid growth due to its wide range of practical applications. We propose a human-machine collaboration framework for COD, leveraging the complementary strengths of computer vision (CV) models and noninvasive brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). Our approach introduces a multiview backbone to estimate uncertainty in CV predictions, utilizes this uncertainty during training to improve efficiency, and defers low-confidence cases to human evaluation via RSVP-based BCIs during testing for
