Effect of Therapeutic Exercise on the Management of Hyperkyphosis in Adolescence and Young Adulthood: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Thoracic hyperkyphosis is characterised by an increase in the normal angle of the thoracic kyphosis. Several factors make adolescents and young adults a potential risk group for postural hyperkyphosis. Among the treatment options, therapeutic exercise allows patients to take an active role, providing a number of beneficial effects. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the scientific evidence on the efficacy of therapeutic exercise for hyperkyphosis in adolescents and young adults. METHODS: A search in six databases (PubMed, Medline, PEDro, Scopus, SPORTDis

Effects of curcumin on serum inflammatory biomarkers in patients with knee osteoarthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Curcumin is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant herbal medicine that has been shown to exert beneficial effects on knee osteoarthritis (OA). Previous studies revealed that curcumin had a superior effect compared to control treatments in terms of pain intensity and other patient-reported outcomes, including the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), visual analog scale (VAS), and Japanese Knee Osteoarthritis Measure (JKOM). However, it remains unclear whether curcumin has beneficial effects

Costoclavicular brachial plexus block for shoulder surgery: a narrative review.

The costoclavicular block is a proximal approach for blocking the brachial plexus in the infraclavicular fossa. Whether the costoclavicular block offers advantages over lateral paracoracoid approaches has been debated. However, diaphragm-sparing anesthesia for shoulder surgery has recently reignited interest in the costoclavicular space. In this review, we examine the costoclavicular block as an alternative to the interscalene block for shoulder surgery, focusing on minimizing involvement of the phrenic nerve. We conducted a systematic search of MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Google Scholar databases us

Surgical interventions for presbyopia.

RATIONALE: Presbyopia is a progressive condition that everyone who lives long enough will experience, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, or economic status. A wide range of surgical options has emerged for overcoming near and intermediate visual impairment; however, questions about the effectiveness and safety of these interventions remain unanswered. Given the global burden of presbyopia and the need to improve decision-making practices in tailoring management and allocating scarce resources, it is essential to review the available evidence on this issue systematically. OBJECTIVES: The prima

Maintenance after first-line treatment for advanced soft tissue sarcoma.

Doxorubicin-based chemotherapy remains the best treatment modality for patients with advanced soft tissue sarcoma (STS), despite limited therapeutic efficacy. Moreover, subsequent salvage treatments exhibit reduced effectiveness. Consequently, the investigation of maintenance therapy in patients with non-progressive STS is pertinent. We reviewed non-randomized trials, although their interpretation was constrained by the lack of internal comparators. We examined eight randomized trials investigating maintenance therapy in patients with STS. Among seven trials assessing continuation maintenance

Does somatosensory discrimination therapy alter sensorimotor upper limb function differently compared to motor therapy in children and adolescents with unilateral cerebral palsy: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Besides motor impairments, up to 90% of the children and adolescents with unilateral cerebral palsy (uCP) present with somatosensory impairments in the upper limb. As somatosensory information is of utmost importance for coordinated movements and motor learning, somatosensory impairments can further compromise the effective use of the impaired upper limb in daily life activities. Yet, intervention approaches specifically designated to target these somatosensory impairments are insufficiently investigated in children and adolescents with uCP. Therefore, the aim of this randomized co
