Treatment Mode Preferences in Psoriatic Arthritis: A Qualitative Multi-Country Study.

OBJECTIVE: Qualitative research exploring patient preferences regarding the mode of treatment administration for psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is limited. We report patient preferences and their reasons across PsA treatment modes. METHODS: In this global, cross-sectional, qualitative study, interviews were conducted with adult patients with PsA in Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK, and the US. Patients were currently taking a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD). Patients indicated the order and strength of preference (0-100; 100 = strongest) across four modes of treatment adm

Self-compassion training for transgender and gender-diverse individuals experiencing psychological distress. A non-concurrent multiple-baseline single-case study.

In recent years, we have witnessed a backlash concerning societal attitudes towards transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) individuals in liberal democracies. In accordance with the gender minority stress model, these stressors have detrimental effects on TGD individuals' well-being, leading to higher rates of depression and anxiety. This multiple-baseline single-case study aimed to develop and test the efficacy of a brief, internet-delivered, self-compassion training module for TGD individuals suffering from psychological distress. A non-concurrent multiple baseline design was applied, where si

Self-Assembly of a Colloidal Honeycomb Crystal in Silico for Topological Valley Photonics.

The quest to employ colloidal self-assembly as a scalable means of fabricating photonic crystals with a complete photonic band gap at optical frequencies has proved challenging throughout the first quarter of the 21st century. Meanwhile, the field of topological photonics has emerged, presenting new, and largely unexploited, functionalities for self-assembled colloidal materials. The robustness of topological photonic properties to defects that are practically unavoidable in self-assembled colloidal structures appears to be especially attractive. Here, the self-assembly of a colloidal honeycom

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI): A Community-Based Study.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine condition that has been associated with atypical emotional regulation strategy use as well as elevated levels of depression, anxiety, self-harm and suicidal ideation. Despite the existence of clinical screening guidance for this population, there is still little to no understanding of how non-suicidal self-injury and suicidal ideation and intention manifest in women with PCOS and how this might differ from women without PCOS. Within this cross-sectional investigation, women with and without a diagnosis of PCOS (n = 418) completed validated metri

Factor Structure of the Polish Version of Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire-Appearance Scales (MBSRQ-PL).

In Poland, there is no tool for measuring the variable body image that would have standardization or Polish norms adjusted to the population of both women and men. The available Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire (MBRSQ) validation developed in Poland was based on a small population of young women only. The aim of this article is to present Polish adaptation and standardization for polish adult women and men (MBSRQ-AS). In the study, the psychometric properties and factor structure of the Polish version of MBSRQ-AS were tested. The participants were 2688 people, including 1699

Potential Value of Customized Video Self-Modelling for Motor Skill Learning in Individuals with Cerebral Palsy: A Case-Study Approach.

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a common physical disability that is managed with a variety of strategies. One non-invasive intervention for people living with CP is a type of video self-modelling (VSM) referred to as positive self-review (PSR). PSR involves watching a video of oneself performing only the best examples of a desired task; this technique has been associated with improved performance and learning for people without disabilities and for those in various clinical populations, including children with spina bifida and stroke patients. PSR may have similar benefits for people living with CP. I

Adolescents' perceptions of the quality of interpersonal relationships and eating disorder symptom severity: The mediating role of low self-esteem and negative mood.

Few studies have examined how the perceived quality of multiple interpersonal relationships is related to eating disorder (ED) symptom severity in adolescents and how psychological variables might influence these associations. The aim of this study is to determine whether the perceived level of trust, communication, and alienation in the relationship with one's mother, father, and peers are predictive of ED severity in adolescent females and to test the mediating effects of low self-esteem and negative mood on these associations. Adolescent females aged 12 to 18 (N = 186) with a diagnosis of A

Social anxiety and disordered eating: The influence of stress reactivity and self-esteem.

While previous research indicates a strong link between social anxiety and disordered eating, more research is needed in order to understand the mechanisms that underlie this relationship. Given that stress is often implicated in disordered eating, it was hypothesised that ones reaction to stress (i.e. stress reactivity) would mediate the relationship between social anxiety and disordered eating. Similarly, given that low self-esteem is commonly reported in both those with social anxiety and eating disorders, it was hypothesised that self-esteem would also mediate the relationship between soci

Comparison of behavior maintained by infusions of eight phenylethylamines in baboons.

Doses of eight phenylethylamines were substituted for cocaine on a drug-maintained behavior baseline in baboons. Intravenous infusions of drug were contingent upon completion of 160 lever presses (a 160-response fixed-ratio schedule; FR 160). A 3-h time-out period followed each infusion, permitting a maximum of 8 infusions per day. Fenfluramine was the only drug that did not maintain self-infusion performance at any dose tested. d-Amphetamine was approximately 10 times more potent than phentermine, phenmetrazine or diethylpropion, and 20 to 30 times more potent than methylenedioxyamphetamine (

VATA-m: Visual-Analogue Test assessing Anosognosia for motor impairment.

There has been a growing interest in anosognosia in both clinical and research domains, yet relatively little attention has been paid to methods for evaluating it. Usually, the presence and severity of anosognosia is assessed by means of structured interviews or questionnaires. Both interviews and questionnaires can provide valuable information, but they rely heavily on self-evaluation and language, and are therefore prone to bias and pose more difficulty in the assessment of aphasic patients. The aim of this study was to develop a new tool, the VATA-m (Visual-Analogue Test for Anosognosia for

Persistent mechanical allodynia following injury of the hand. Treatment through mobilization of the nervous system.

Mechanical allodynia (MA) following hand injury is a well-documented clinical problem. The purpose of this pilot study was to examine the relationship between hand MA and the upper limb tension test (ULTT). The ULTT mechanically stresses the neural structures from the C5/6/7 neural foramina to the median nerve distally. This study examined 29 subjects with unilateral hand MA before and after a 2-week neural self-mobilization programme. There was a significant difference between the subjects' affected and unaffected sides when tested using the ULTT, both in reproduction of symptoms and in reduc

Self-compassion and post-stroke depression symptoms in acute stroke survivors.

BACKGROUND: Post-stroke depression affects approximately one-third of stroke survivors. Self-compassion has emerged as a protective factor against depression in chronically ill populations, yet has received limited investigation in stroke survivors. OBJECTIVES: This study examined the factorial structure and reliability of the German Self-Compassion Scale Short Form (SCS-D-KF) in stroke survivors and investigated whether self-compassion is associated with depressive symptoms beyond established risk factors. METHODS: This cross-sectional study examined 407 patients (60.4% male) with acute str

Depression and Quality of Life in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis: The Impact of Self-Disgust.

BACKGROUND: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) significantly impairs patients' quality of life. Psychological factors such as depression and self-disgust have been shown to be associated with quality of life; however, their interactions and combined effects remain unclear. Moreover, the level of self-disgust among Chinese patients with RA has not yet been investigated. OBJECTIVE: To examine the mediating effects of self-disgust in the relationship between depression and quality of life among patients with RA, and to provide a reference for clinical practice aimed at improving patients' quality of life

Self-esteem instability in major depressive disorder: a computational analysis of expectation updating in response to performance feedback.

INTRODUCTION: Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is consistently associated with low self-esteem; however, how self-evaluative beliefs are updated in response to environmental feedback in MDD remains poorly understood. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that low self-esteem in MDD reflects dynamic instability driven by altered processing of social-evaluative information, rather than a simple static deficit. METHODS: The study enrolled 60 patients with MDD and 30 healthy control participants. All participants completed a Social Comparison-Based Performance Task in which experimentally manipu

Acceptability of, and preference for, human papillomavirus self-sampling for physically Disabled women: A cross-sectional survey.

BackgroundPhysically Disabled women face multiple barriers to cervical screening, contributing to lower uptake and increased health inequalities. Human papillomavirus self-sampling has been shown to increase screening participation in under-screened populations, but little is known about its acceptability for Disabled women.MethodsA cross-sectional online survey was conducted with 1493 UK-based participants who identified as having a physical disability, impairment, condition, or difference that makes cervical screening difficult or impossible. Participants completed questions on the acceptabi
