Recent research has demonstrated the effectiveness of programmed instruction that integrates derived relations to teach college-level academic material. This method has been demonstrated to be effective and economical in the teaching of complex mathematics and biology concepts. Although this approach may have potential applications with other domains of college learning, more studies are needed to evaluate important technological variables. Studies that employ programmed instruction are discussed in relation to future directions for research.

We have successfully developed a new cardiac auscultation simulator by applying recently developed digital and computer technology, which digitally records, stores, modifies, and plays back heart sounds and murmurs characteristic of various heart diseases. The observation of children with singular weaknesses in reading and writing with good scholastic performance in other subjects goes back to the last century. Concrete steps were, however, only taken after insistent clinical publications in the fifties. Most recently, bureaucratic decisions on school matters hinder the assistance to dyslexic children so that the danger of criminal development increases. The psychiatric view of the disease picture and the possibilities of rehabilitation are contrasted with these tendencies, congenital dyscalculia also being briefly discussed.
