Reliably Filter Drug-Induced Liver Injury Literature With Natural Language Processing and Conformal Prediction.

Drug-induced liver injury describes the adverse effects of drugs that damage the liver. Life-threatening results were also reported in severe cases. Therefore, liver toxicity is an important assessment for new drug candidates. These reports are documented in research papers that contain preliminary in vitro and in vivo experiments. Conventionally, data extraction from publications relies on resource-demanding manual labeling, which restricts the efficiency of the information extraction. The development of natural language processing techniques enables the automatic processing of biomedical tex

A Multitask Learning Approach to Personalized Blood Glucose Prediction.

Blood glucose prediction algorithms are key tools in the development of decision support systems and closed-loop insulin delivery systems for blood glucose control in diabetes. Deep learning models have provided leading results among machine learning algorithms to date in glucose prediction. However these models typically require large amounts of data to obtain best personalised glucose prediction results. Multitask learning facilitates an approach for leveraging data from multiple subjects while still learning accurate personalised models. In this work we present results comparing the effecti

Estimating Parkinsonism Severity in Natural Gait Videos of Older Adults With Dementia.

Drug-induced parkinsonism affects many older adults with dementia, often causing gait disturbances. New advances in vision-based human pose- estimation have opened possibilities for frequent and unobtrusive analysis of gait in long-term care settings. This work leverages spatial-temporal graph convolutional network (ST-GCN) architectures and training procedures to predict clinical scores of parkinsonism in gait from video of individuals with dementia. We propose a two-stage training approach consisting of a self-supervised pretraining stage that encourages the ST-GCN model to learn about gait

AL-Net: Attention Learning Network Based on Multi-Task Learning for Cervical Nucleus Segmentation.

Cervical nucleus segmentation is a crucial and challenging issue in automatic pathological diagnosis due to uneven staining, blurry boundaries, and adherent or overlapping nuclei in nucleus images. To overcome the limitation of current methods, we propose a multi-task network based on U-Net for cervical nucleus segmentation. This network consists of a primary task and an auxiliary task. The primary task is employed to predict nuclei regions. The auxiliary task, which predicts the boundaries of nuclei, is designed to improve the feature extraction of the main task. Furthermore, a context encodi

Robust Fovea Detection in Retinal OCT Imaging Using Deep Learning.

The fovea centralis is an essential landmark in the retina where the photoreceptor layer is entirely composed of cones responsible for sharp, central vision. The localization of this anatomical landmark in optical coherence tomography (OCT) volumes is important for assessing visual function correlates and treatment guidance in macular disease. In this study, the "PRE U-net" is introduced as a novel approach for a fully automated fovea centralis detection, addressing the localization as a pixel-wise regression task. 2D B-scans are sampled from each image volume and are concatenated with spatial
