Effects of ACOT7 gene variants on productive performance in Qiandongnan small Xiang goats.

The Qiandongnan small Xiang goat is an indigenous Chinese breed facing challenges such as decreased genetic diversity and the need for improved production performance. This study examined the ACOT7 gene, analyzing its mRNA expression across different tissues and assessing the associations between its single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and growth, slaughter, and meat quality traits. ACOT7 expression was highest in the longissimus dorsi muscle and lowest in the spleen. Three SNP loci were identified: g.52329 T > C was significantly associated with body length, body height, meat color, pH, an

Etiology of aggressive periodontitis in individuals of African descent.

Aggressive periodontitis (AgP) is a form of periodontitis that affects adolescents and has a significantly higher prevalence in individuals of African descent. AgP typically shows familial aggregation, suggesting a genetic predisposition. Young age, good health status, rapid attachment loss, and familial aggregation are the primary features of this disease. AgP has been closely linked to specific bacterial strains of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. A. actinomycetemcomitans strains isolated from patients with AgP produce leukotoxin (LtxA), which specifically affects polymorphonuclear leu

Pharmacogenetics of amfepramone in healthy Mexican subjects reveals potential markers for tailoring pharmacotherapy of obesity: results of a randomised trial.

Amfepramone (AFP) is an appetite-suppressant drug used in the treatment of obesity. Nonetheless, studies on interindividual pharmacokinetic variability and its association with genetic variants are limited. We employed a pharmacokinetic and pharmacogenetic approach to determine possible metabolic phenotypes of AFP and identify genetic markers that could affect the pharmacokinetic variability in a Mexican population. A controlled, randomized, crossover, single-blind, two-treatment, two-period, and two sequence clinical study of AFP (a single 75 mg dose) was conducted in 36 healthy Mexican volun

CRP genetic variants are associated with mortality and depressive symptoms in chronic heart failure patients.

OBJECTIVE: Heart failure (HF) is a complex medical condition with a multitude of genetic and other factors being involved in the pathogenesis. Emerging evidence points to an involvement of inflammatory mechanisms at least in subgroups of patients. The same is true for depression and depressive symptoms, which have a high prevalence in HF patients and are risk factors for the development and outcomes of cardiovascular disease. METHODS: In 936 patients of the Interdisciplinary Network Heart Failure (INH) program, CRP and IL-6 protein blood levels were measured and genetic variants (single nucle

Genetic variants of interleukin-4 gene in autoimmune thyroid diseases: an updated meta-analysis.

Autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITDs) including Graves' disease (GD) and Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) are common autoimmune endocrine disorders. Interleukin-4 (IL-4), a cytokine secreted by T cells, plays a critical role in antigen-specific Th2 responses. The IL-4 gene is highly polymorphic and it has been reported that the polymorphism at -590 (T/C, rs2243250) in the promoter region of IL-4 may contribute to the development of AITDs. Recently, several case-control studies have examined the association of genetic variants of IL-4 with AITDs. However, the results of these studies remain conflicti

Fingerprinting of poultry isolates of Enterococcus cecorum using three molecular typing methods.

Enterococcus cecorum is an emerging challenge to the broiler industry. The organism has been implicated in septicemia, spondylitis, arthritis, and osteomyelitis in commercial broilers and broiler breeders, which lead to economic losses attributed to increased mortality and culling rates, decreased average processing weights, and increased feed conversion ratios. The current study evaluated the genetic variability of 30 clinical isolates of E. cecorum from outbreaks in Pennsylvania, using 3 molecular typing methods, namely, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE), randomly amplified polymorphic

Clinical, genetic and microbiological findings in a Brazilian family with aggressive periodontitis.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Aggressive periodontitis comprises a group of rapidly progressive forms of periodontitis. Besides bacteria, a high level of subject susceptibility must be involved in the expression of disease. In the present study, we report the clinical, microbiological and genetic profile of a 14-individual family with aggressive periodontitis. METHOD: PCR was utilized to detect pathogenic bacteria of affected sites. DNA was obtained from epithelial cells through a mouthwash with 3% glucose and scrapping of the oral mucosa. RFLP-PCR was used to analyze cytokine genetic polymorphisms. RESUL

Familial screening for genetic haemochromatosis by means of DNA markers.

Genetic haemochromatosis (HFE) is a frequent and potentially fatal disease. Early phlebotomies may prevent complications. The recessive gene for HFE is unknown but closely linked to the HLA-A locus. No direct test for homozygosity for HFE is currently available, apart from HLA typing within the family of a patient with confirmed HFE. During a reverse genetic approach to identify the gene, we found three anonymous genomic probes (P3, P5, and I.82) derived from previously cloned YACs and physically mapped in the HLA class I region. P3 and P5 probes recognise 3 loci (P3A, P3B, P5) and I.82 one lo

Association of p53 Pro72Arg Polymorphism with Hepatocellular Carcinoma Risk in Hepatitis B Across Multiethnic Populations.

INTRODUCTION: Mounting evidence indicates that the p53 Pro72Arg single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) may play a role in modulating hepatocarcinogenesis in the setting of chronic HBV infection. However, there is currently a lack of studies focusing on this genetic variant in Indonesia, a country characterized by its diverse genetic landscape comprising over 1300 distinct ethnic groups. We aimed to investigate the association between the p53 Pro72Arg polymorphism and the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) among Indonesian patients with chronic HBV infection. Genotype-by-diagnosis interaction influences self-control in human cocaine addiction.

Not everyone who uses drugs loses control over their intake, which is a hallmark of addiction. Although familial risk studies suggest significant addiction heritability, the genetic basis of vulnerability to drug addiction remains largely unknown. In the present study, we investigate the relationship between self-control, cocaine use, and the rs36024 single nucleotide polymorphism of the noradrenaline transporter gene (SLC6A2). We hypothesize that C-allele-carrying adults show impaired self-control, as measured by the stop-signal task and demonstrated previously in adolescents, and further exa

MHC Class II (DRB) Promoter Polymorphism and Its Role in Parasite Control among Malaria Patients.

MHC class II (MHCII) molecules are cell surface glycoproteins that play an important role to develop adaptive immune responses. MHCII-disease association is not restricted to structural variation alone but also may extend to genetic variations, which may modulate gene expression. The observed variations in class II gene expression make it possible that the association of MHCII polymorphism with diseases may relate to the level of gene expression in addition to the restriction of response to Ag. Understanding the extent of, and the mechanisms underlying, transcription factor DNA binding variati

Nutrient consumption-dependent association of a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor gene polymorphism with insulin secretion.

Since type 2 diabetes (DM) is a life-style related disease, life-style should be considered when association between genetic factors and DM are examined. However, most studies did not examine genetic associations in consideration with lifestyle. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor (GLP1R) mediates the insulinotropic action of GLP-1 in β-cells. We here examined the association while taking into consideration of interactions between the gene polymorphism and various nutrient factors. Participants from the population-based Iwaki study of Japanese subjects held in 2014-2017 with information o

BDNF Val66Met genetic variation and its plasma level in patients with morbid obesity: A case-control study.

Obesity is a major public health concern worldwide. Genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors contribute to the multifactorial etiology of obesity. Evidence suggests an association between human Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) Val66Met single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and obesity. Reduced plasma BDNF levels have also been reported in patients with eating disorders and obesity. We aimed to evaluate the BDNF Val66Met (rs6265) SNP and also plasma BDNF levels in morbidly obese patients compared with healthy normal controls in southern Iran. One hundred morbidly obese patients and

The association of Q472H variant in the KDR gene with recurrent pregnancy loss in Southern Iran: A case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) often remains unclear and can be burden for the patient and time consuming for clinician. RSA may initiates from a genetic or non-genetic factors. It is well known that the quality of placental circulation is critical for implantation and embryo development. Because of angiogenic effects of VEGF-KDR pathway on placenta, the genes involved in this pathway (the KDR or VEGFR genes) are thought to be linked with RSA. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between Gln472His (A/T) polymorphism of the KDR gene with RSAs i
