Prediction and Screening of Lead-Free Double Perovskite Photovoltaic Materials Based on Machine Learning.

The search for stable, lead-free perovskite materials is critical for developing efficient and environmentally friendly energy solutions. In this study, machine learning methods were applied to predict the bandgap and formation energy of double perovskites, aiming to identify promising photovoltaic candidates. A dataset of 1053 double perovskites was extracted from the Materials Project database, with 50 feature descriptors generated. Feature selection was carried out using Pearson correlation and mRMR methods, and 23 key features for bandgap prediction and 18 key features for formation energy

Using Machine Learning to Predict Outcomes Following Thoracic and Complex Endovascular Aortic Aneurysm Repair.

BACKGROUND: Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) and complex endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) are complex procedures that carry a significant risk of complications. While risk prediction tools can aid in clinical decision making, they remain limited. We developed machine learning algorithms to predict outcomes following TEVAR and complex EVAR. METHODS: The Vascular Quality Initiative database was used to identify patients who underwent elective TEVAR and complex EVAR for noninfrarenal aortic aneurysms between 2012 and 2023. We extracted 172 features from the index hospitalization, i

Development of a machine learning-based prediction model for postoperative delirium in frail elderly patients undergoing noncardiac surgery under general anesthesia.

BACKGROUND: In frail older adults, the incidence of postoperative delirium (POD) is markedly increased, leading to greater morbidity, prolonged length of stay, and higher healthcare costs. An accurate POD prediction model can direct preventive strategies and improve patient outcomes. Employing advanced machine-learning techniques, this study develops a POD prediction model using comprehensive preoperative and intraoperative data. METHODS: We enrolled 2,089 frail patients aged ≥ 65 years undergoing general anesthesia for noncardiac surgery at Fuyang People's Hospital between February 2023 and

Protocol for an international multicenter, prospective, observational, non-competitive, study to validate and optimise prediction models of 90-day and 1-year allograft failure after liver transplantation: The global IMPROVEMENT Study.

More liver transplants (LT) are performed worldwide thanks to extended criteria donors (ECD). This is paralleled by a supposed increased risk of allograft failure (AF) at 90 and 365 days. This study has been designed to portray the LT practice worldwide and investigate models of AF prediction and the impact of risk mitigation strategies for further improving graft and patient outcomes. This is a multicenter, international, non-competitive, observational two segment study on consecutive LTs over two periods (2017-2019 and 2022-2024). A steering committee of LT experts defined the study protocol

Development and external validation of a machine learning-based predictive model for acute kidney injury in hospitalized children with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Acute kidney injury (AKI), a critical complication of childhood idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS), markedly increases the risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and mortality. This study developed an interpretable machine learning (ML) model for early AKI prediction in pediatric INS to enable proactive interventions and mitigate adverse outcomes. METHODS: A total of 3,390 patients and 356 hospitalized pediatric patients with INS were included in the derivation and external cohorts, respectively, from four hospitals across China. BACKGROUND: Accurate comprehensive prediction of occult lymph node metastasis (OLNM) is crucial for optimizing treatment strategy in early-stage lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). This study aimed to develop and validate a machine learning (ML) model integrating multimodal data for the individualized prediction of OLNM. METHODS: A retrospective cohort of 12,679 patients with clinical T1N0 LUAD (≤3 cm) was identified from a single institution. After propensity score matching (PSM) to address class imbalance, a balanced cohort of 614 patients (307 with OLNM, 307 without) was used for model development

Prediction models for post-discharge mortality among under-five children with suspected sepsis in Uganda: A multicohort analysis.

In many low-income countries, over five percent of hospitalized children die following hospital discharge. The lack of available tools to identify those at risk of post-discharge mortality has limited the ability to make progress towards improving outcomes. We aimed to develop algorithms designed to predict post-discharge mortality among children admitted with suspected sepsis. Four prospective cohort studies of children in two age groups (0-6 and 6-60 months) were conducted between 2012-2021 in six Ugandan hospitals. Prediction models were derived for six-months post-discharge mortality, base

BACKGROUND: Navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation (nTMS) is a well-established preoperative mapping tool for motor-eloquent glioma surgery. Machine learning (ML) and nTMS may improve clinical outcome prediction and histological correlation. METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent surgery for motor-eloquent gliomas between 2018 and 2022. Ten healthy subjects were included. Preoperative nTMS-derived variables were collected: resting motor threshold (RMT), interhemispheric RMT ratio (iRMTr)-abnormal if above 10%-and cortical excitability score-number of abn

Identification of glycosyltransferase genes for diagnosis of T-cell mediated rejection and prediction of graft loss in kidney transplantation.

BACKGROUND: Glycosylation is a complex and fundamental metabolic biosynthetic process orchestrated by multiple glycosyltransferases (GT) and glycosidases enzymes. Functions of GT have been extensively examined in multiple human diseases. Our study investigated the potential role of GT genes in T-cell mediated rejection (TCMR) and possible prediction of graft loss of kidney transplantation. METHODS: We downloaded the microarray datasets and GT genes from the GEO and the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee (HGNC) databases, respectively. Differentially expressed GT genes (DE-GTGs) were obtained by

Predicting drug adverse effects using a new Gastro-Intestinal Pacemaker Activity Drug Database (GIPADD).

Electrical data could be a new source of big-data for training artificial intelligence (AI) for drug discovery. A Gastro-Intestinal Pacemaker Activity Drug Database (GIPADD) was built using a standardized methodology to test drug effects on electrical gastrointestinal (GI) pacemaker activity. The current report used data obtained from 89 drugs with 4867 datasets to evaluate the potential use of the GIPADD for predicting drug adverse effects (AEs) using a machine-learning (ML) approach and to explore correlations between AEs and GI pacemaker activity. Twenty-four "electrical" features (EFs) wer
