BACKGROUND: Supplementation of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) enables dose reduction of prednisolone and ciclosporin in canine atopic dermatitis (cAD).
OBJECTIVE: To determine if oral administration of PUFA reduces the dose of oclacitinib in cAD.
ANIMALS: Twenty-two client-owned dogs with cAD receiving oclacitinib.

Among cases of occupational dermatoses, eczema in hairdressers was reported most frequently in Austria during 1981 and 1982. Analysing 247 reports, extensive data could be obtained with regard to predisposition, clinical pattern, course, contact sensitization, skin tests, prognosis, influence on occupational development, rehabilitation, and disability pension. Repeated exposure to the marine bryozoan, Alcyonidium gelatinosum, frequently provokes an eczematous allergic contact dermatitis known as the "Dogger Bank Itch". The dermatitis, representing a severe occupational disease, is especially widely distributed among trawlermen working in the Dogger Bank area in the North Sea. The allergy is shown to belong to the type of cell-mediated hypersensitivity. The hapten has been identified as the (2-hydroxyethyl)dimethylsulfoxonium ion. BACKGROUND: Dogs with moderate-to-severe leishmaniosis develop a strong nonprotective humoral response which is mainly associated with anti-Leishmania infantum antibodies. Treatment of severe eczema in patients with primary immunodeficiencies can be particularly challenging as there are no guidelines with regards to these conditions. Dupilumab is an interleukin (IL)-4Rα antagonist that inhibits both IL-4 and IL-13 and is approved for the treatment of atopic dermatitis in pediatric patients. The skin is an important extra-gonadal steroidogenic organ, capable of metabolizing various hormones from their precursors, as well as of synthesizing de novo a broad palette of sex steroids and glucocorticoids from cholesterol. In this manuscript, we review the major steroidogenic properties of human skin and we suggest steroidogenesis' impairment as a cardinal factor for various pathological conditions such as acne, rosacea, atopic dermatitis, and androgenic alopecia.

Tacrolimus is an immunosuppressive property approved for the treatment of atopic dermatitis. Studies have shown that topical tacrolimus is effective for a broad spectrum of mucocutaneous diseases, including oral lichen planus. The objective of this article is to review the pharmacology of tacrolimus, its usage in oral lichen planus, adverse effects and advantages of tacrolimus over other conventional drugs, thus making it a popular and alternative drug for the treatment of lichen planus.

Primary herpetic gingivostomatitis is a relatively common and well-recognized condition that the dental practitioner may encounter in clinical practice. A primary herpetic infection in a child with atopic dermatitis such as eczema, however, predisposes them to eczema herpeticum. This can be a severe and potentially life-threatening condition. This paper describes one such case, discusses the aetiology, presentation and management of this condition, and highlights the importance of early recognition by the clinician.

The aim of the study was to assess the effect of food, respiratory and contact allergens, infections, vaccinations, stress and other factors that exacerbate skin symptoms in 50 children diagnosed with food allergy. Individual daily cards of observation were used in the analysis. The dominant factors were found to be food allergens (72%, 36 persons) an elimination diet is thus appears to be the main canon of therapy of atopic dermatitis in children.

Allergy diagnosis is based on history, skin-test, RAST and lung functions test. For skin-test a modified PRICK-test is used. In allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma the evaluation of this test is clear, in food-allergies however 50% false positive resp. negative results are seen. Very difficult is the diagnosis in drug allergies. In atopic dermatitis and contact-eczema a patch-test has to be done too.
