The article shows the role of long-lasting postmortem spinal reflexes' potential in rigor mortis development on an example of fatal railway injury. Strokes with metal rod on both biceps caused a spinal reflex (forearms' flexion in elbow joints and fingers) instead of an idiomuscular tumor with simultaneous development of a pronounced rigor mortis of the upper limbs on the decapitated corpse of a 20-year-old woman 7.25 h after death.

This is a case of a 36-year-old female patient presenting with left forearm and wrist pain after a ground-level fall onto her outstretched left hand. Clinical and radiographic evaluation is consistent with a left distal radial shaft fracture with disruption of the distal radioulnar joint, known as a Galeazzi fracture. The purpose of this video is to review the appropriate management of Galeazzi fractures and demonstrate our treatment with this surgical approach.

Chondrocalcinosis is a common arthritic disorder among elderly patients. We present a case of a 71-year-old woman presenting with an acute episode of the left forearm with hand swelling. A provisional diagnosis of cellulitis was made and the patient was started on intravenous antibiotics. The patient's condition did not improve. Joint aspiration of the wrist joint was done and showed positive birefringent rhomboid-shaped crystals. A final diagnosis of acute chondrocalcinosis was made.

Radial head fractures without associated bony or ligamentous injury can be safely treated with internal fixation, if possible, or arthroplasty if nonreconstructable. However, nonreconstructable radial head fractures in association with elbow dislocation and/or ligamentous injury in the elbow or forearm represent a specific subset of injuries that requires restoration of the radiocapitellar articulation for optimal function. The purpose of this article was to summarize the indications for radial head arthroplasty and discuss the reported outcomes.

We here present a paediatric case with development of acute compartment syndrome in the lower leg secondary to a tibial shaft fracture. The patient was diagnosed in time because of breakthrough pain, despite a well-functioning continuous peripheral nerve block with ropivacaine infusion. Compartment syndrome is a potentially devastating complication to trauma, typically fractures of the tibial shaft and the forearm because of the relatively tight facias and small volume of these compartments.

CONTEXT: Pancreatic injuries caused by blunt trauma are often treated conservatively, except for the highest grades of these.
CASE REPORT: We report a case of complete transection of the distal pancreas in a young adult which was successfully managed by spleen-preserving laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy followed by an islet autotransplantation in the patient's forearm striated muscle.
CONCLUSION: We describe a mini-invasive approach for pancreatectomy with restoration of resected islets to the patient.

We report a 53-year-old female on chronic dialysis, presenting with weight loss, the development of big soft masses in the shoulders ("shoulder pads"), forearms and buttocks, macroglossia and rigidity of hands and lower limbs. Laboratory confirmed the presence of amyloidosis and myeloma with lambda chain restricted plasma cell infiltration of bone marrow. The diagnosis of multiple myeloma associated with primary amyloidosis in a patient with terminal renal failure, was reached.

Osteosarcoma most frequently affects long bones, particularly around the knee, and is therefore rare in the forearm. We report the case of a 67-year-old woman presenting with progressive lesion of the distal radius. A pathological diagnosis of osteoblastic osteosarcoma was suspected and was confirmed by needle biopsy. There had been two other cases of osteosarcoma in the same family. The patient was treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by amputation of the arm below the elbow.

Tendon transfers are performed predominantly to restore hand function or balance due to injuries of the radial, median, and ulnar nerves. Current surgical techniques for the most common tendon transfers for reconstruction of radial, median, and ulnar nerve palsies are demonstrated. These techniques can also be applied to restore flexion and extension of the fingers and thumb after injuries to the extrinsic flexor and extensor muscles and tendons of the forearm or intrinsic muscles of the hand.

Localized unilateral or segmental hyperhidrosis is a rare form of increased sweat production of unknown origin. Most reported cases have occurred in otherwise healthy people, with none of the typical triggering factors found in essential hyperhidrosis. The localization of segmental hyperhidrosis is usually the forearm or forehead. We report a case of unilateral hyperhidrosis on the right sides of the forehead, and nose, and the palmar surface of the right hand with anhidrosis on the left hand.

Hirayama disease is a nonprogressive, asymmetric amyotrophy of the hands and forearms, possibly caused by compression of the lower cervical cord on neck flexion. The authors used phase-contrast MR angiography to study a patient with this disorder and observed abnormal spinal epidural venous dilation on neck flexion. In addition to mechanical compression of the lower cervical cord, venous congestion in the spinal canal may have a role in promoting anterior horn damage.

We describe a procedure for "chain-link" combined tissue transfer connecting the vascular pedicle of a deep circumflex iliac flap with that of a forearm flap after wide resection of the mandible. Combination of these flaps facilitated the reconstruction of the defect in both intra- and extraoral soft tissue and the mandibular bone. This method is useful when cervical recipient blood vessels are limited due to the wide resection of the primary tumor and radical neck dissection.

The authors describe an unusual case of radial artery pseudoaneurysm in a patient with a Brescia-Cimino fistula. Evaluation of a pulsatile mass on the patient's forearm which occurred after hemodialysis led to a nondiagnostic fistulogram. Color flow ultrasound was helpful in identifying the nature of the abnormality, which was subsequently confirmed arteriographically. This case illustrates that fistulography is not 100% sensitive and should be supplemented with other imaging modalities when the clinical and fistulographic findings are discordant.

Three cases of hamato-metacarpal fracture-dislocation with fracture of the shaft or base of the fourth metacarpal and dorsal dislocation of the fifth metacarpal are described. In one case this was associated with coronal fracture of the hamate. An oblique radiograph of the hand with the forearm pronated 15 degrees and 45 degrees provided a good view of the extent of the fourth and fifth carpometacarpal injury. Treatment with open reduction and internal fixation achieves good clinical results.

Immobilisation of the thumb is widely believed to be important in the management of fractures of the carpal scaphoid. To assess the need for this, we randomly allocated 392 fresh fractures for treatment by either a forearm gauntlet (Colles') cast, leaving the thumb free, or by a conventional 'scaphoid' plaster incorporating the thumb as far as its interphalangeal joint. In the 292 fractures which were followed for six months, the incidence of nonunion was independent of the type of cast used.

A farmer specialized in pig-breeding showed acute dermatitis of his hands, forearms and face after using chloropromazine for the sedation of pigs. Epicutaneous and photo-patch tests showed positive reactions to chloropromazine. Further tests with other occupational materials were negative. This observation points out that in cases of contact dermatitis in farmers, besides antibiotics, vitamins and other feeding additives, sedatives of the phenothiazin-type should not be forgotten.

A worker employed in a textile printing-shop showing a rebellious eczema on hands and forearms, was submitted to three series of patch-tests which disclosed a polysensitization to chromium, to formaldehyde, to the urea-formaldehyde resin and to some pigments (Helizarine BASF, Fluolac FMC). The chemical analysis of some of these pigments shows an interesting relation between allergenicity for a certain pigment and the presence of formaldehyde. Thus, it is an allergy to the pigment-support and not to the pigment itself.

Heat pain thresholds (HPTs) are used for clinical assessments, sensory phenotyping, and pre-post comparisons. This usage assumes that HPTs are stable, exchangeable, and unaffected by repetition.
