Effectiveness of community-based interventions for older adults living alone: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVES: This study examined the effectiveness of community-based interventions designed for older adults living alone through a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: The study incorporated 4 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and 5 non-RCTs to evaluate various interventions. The methodological quality of these studies was assessed using the Downs and Black checklist, while Q-statistic and I-square tests were performed to examine statistical heterogeneity. Additionally, visual inspection of funnel plots and the trim-and-fill method were employed to investigate potential publicatio

A systematic review of recruitment and retention of ethnic minorities and migrants in obesity prevention randomised controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Participants' recruitment and retention into community-based interventions can be challenging, especially in research involving ethnic minorities and migrants. Despite known challenges, there are limited reviews that probe recruitment and retention strategies involving ethnic minorities and migrants in the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries. This systematic review aimed to measure recruitment and retention rates and identify the barriers and facilitators to effective recruitment and retention of ethnic minorities and migrants in community-based o

A multisector community-engaged collaborative for mental health integration in primary care and housing developments: Protocol for a stepped-wedge randomized controlled trial (the Harlem Strong Program).

BACKGROUND: Addressing mental health disparities following COVID-19 requires adaptive, multi-sectoral, equity-focused, and community-based approaches. Mental health task-sharing in gateway settings has been found to address mental health care gaps in low- and middle-income countries, but is not a common practice in the U.S., especially in non-medical settings, such as low-income housing developments (LIH). This research study will evaluate the effectiveness of a multisectoral community-engaged collaborative for task-sharing mental health care on consumer, provider, and implementation outcomes,

Repairing alveolar bone defect using demineralized dentin grafts: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

INTRODUCTION: The alveolar bone defect often was hardly healed naturally by the body's repair mechanism. Implant placement was the most favored option for replacing a missing tooth in the current times, and the preservation of alveolar bone was vital. Tooth components, especially dentin, were very similar to alveolar bone components and could be used for promoting the alveolar bone regeneration process in reconstructive dentistry. METHODS: We exhaustively scoured multiple literature databases, such as PubMed and Embase, from inception to September 2024. The protocol for this meta-analysis was

A rapid improvement event: progesterone prescribing in prevention of miscarriage.

A rapid improvement event (RIE) is a standard operational excellence technique that uses team-based problem solving to improve processes. In this study, a RIE was undertaken to improve progesterone prescribing rates for those with a history of miscarriage experiencing vaginal bleeding in early pregnancy. This was on the basis of a recent change in guidelines regarding prescribing in these instances. NICE guidelines changed in November 2021 after Cochrane meta-analysis and the PRISM (Progesterone in Spontaneous Miscarriage) randomised control trial demonstrated a higher incidence of live births

Direct oral anticoagulants in embolic stroke of undetermined source: an updated meta-analysis.

The efficacy and safety of direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC) in patients with embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS) remains unclear. We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library for randomized controlled trials (RCT) comparing DOACs versus aspirin in patients with ESUS. Risk ratios (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were computed for binary endpoints. Four RCTs comprising 13,970 patients were included. Compared with aspirin, DOACs showed no significant reduction of recurrent stroke (RR 0.95; 95% CI 0.84-1.09; p = 0.50; I2 = 0%), ischemic stroke or systemic embolis

Efficacy of swallowing rehabilitative therapies for adults with dysphagia: a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Dysphagia leads to poor swallowing function and high risk of aspiration; swallowing rehabilitative therapies including jaw exercises, tongue exercises, chin tuck against resistance (CTAR), Shaker exercises, effortful swallow training (EST), traditional dysphagia therapy (TDT), and respiratory muscle training (RMT) including inspiratory muscle strength training (IMST) and expiratory muscle strength training (EMST) are a crucial part of dysphagia rehabilitation. However, limited evidence exists on the comparative efficacy of swallowing rehabilitative therapies in adults with dysphagia. This is t
